It's official, Neville's crap!

Has anyone else seen in the Observer today that Phil Neville is statistically the second worse passer in the Premier League? I'm chuffed to bits about our win yesterday but Moyes should surely see how crap our captain is. Keep Jagielka at right back and play Carsley and Grav in the middle. Drop Neville ? I don't think I've forgiven him for his goal for Man Utd last season. Oh and give Yobo the captain's arm band too.

Phil Neville has actually played more passes than any other player in our team this season. The more you pass it, the more chances there are to make errors. He is a very important player for us and I think Moyes knows this. He is the captain and will not be dropped. Wouldn’t surprise me if he was up there with Arteta as the first name on the team sheet.
That said, I do much prefer him at right back. His crossing is excellent at times and he looks much more accomplished in this position. I don’t think it is any coincidence that we began to dominate yesterday’s game when Moyes swapped Phil and Jags around and put them in the positions I feel they are best equipped to play in.

Frankly he?s shite and everyone can see it but Moyes wouldn?t drop him if he scored an hatrick of oggys.

Neville is woeful in Midfield especially when playing with Carsley both trying to do the same job at the same time, but drop him to RB and he shines, Moyes needs to go Neville at RB drop Tony Hibbert to the bench and Jagielka as defensive midfielder with Carsley as cover, it doesn’t give us strength to come off the bench but if we start to win then the cover will be to replace tired or injured players not seeking a win.

This was based on the total number of unsuccessful passes. Also in the top 10 worst offenders was Ryan Giggs.

Amazing how he manages to get in the Everton team, especially being an experienced International with England eh..

Top pro is Phyllis, leave the bloke alone.

i like Neville, like most think he should play RB but even in midfield he isnt as bad a some people make out, he’s a good leader and we need him in the team

Got to agree with Gavin.Neville is a dire midfield player. But,drop him at right back, and he looks a different player.I think it’s got to be Jags centre mid, along with one of Carsley or Gravesen.Only thing is,to drop Carsley would be a slap in the face, because thinking about it,he has (in my opinion)been our most consistent performer.

Sean I don’t see how it follows? Surely if you make more passes you have the chance to actually complete more passes, not fail at it!

He is not good enough in midfield. Between him and Carsley, I’d choose Carsley. Between him and Jagielka, I’d choose Jagielka. I just want us to keep hold of the ball.

I still believe Neville’s best position is at right back. His overlapping and pacy crossing from that side is excellent and never aimless. He’s also positionally a good defender, but needs a run there. The good thing is we have competition now, and Hibbert knows he is not guaranteed a place

In fairness to Neville, while his passing can be poor, he at least does try usually to keep the ball moving with some first time passing - which when it comes off is better than the pass it to me, pass it to you stuff that characterises our laboured build-ups.

You can see the value of Neville when on the rare occasion that he does join in the attack by overlapping down the wing, the quality of the cross is usually very good (Spurs and Wigan away spring to mind). Hibbert, in the same position, would have found the back row of the Park End or Gwladys Street stands.

No, Neville right full back for me, it is.

Neville's best position is full back. He is captain because he is a leader and an organiser. There are better players technically than him but please don?t underestimate the postive effect he has on the team.

I just can´t understand why Moyes dosen´t play him in right back.. it seemst that everyboady els wants that.

I´d rather see Jagielka in the middfield and put Neville in the right back.

In my mind Neville is no middfielder.. but in Moyes we trust.

Moyes have done so many good things for the club, so we just have to trust him on this one. Who knows if Neville will go back to right back when Cahill comes back.

His passing is sometimes frustrating due to the fact he is surrounded by garbage such as Hibbert, Stubbs & Carsley - professional hoofers of the ball!

Phil Neville is not only massively experienced, he is solid, never flinches out of a tackle and is a natural leader on and off the pitch. His best position being right back which he is being programed for all the time.

As for Yobo as captain; FO!

nah.. you’re way wrong there.. Neville should play at right back.. his crossing is great and is one hell of a tackler too.. but midfield.. I prefer Jagielka or Carsley with Grav/Cahill, even though I dont mind him play that. I think Hibbert’s worse to be honest.. good defender but thats about it!

I would not pay too much attention to those kinds of listings.
The great Alan Ball would have topped a list of unsuccesful passers. At the same time he would have topped a list of succesful passers and probably do the same in lists of tackling and shooting.
I have often played in and watched games where the most influential player hardly kicked a ball.
