Jags & Neville

Comments (8)

Seems obvious to me after the Blackburn game and now the Bolton game that we are far more effective with Jags instead of Carsley as central "holding" midfielder and Neville in his traditional right-back role.

Cars has been great for us but for me Jags is a younger, quicker, bigger, stronger and more creative version. And Neville in my view has never been comfortable in midfield

What’s all this rubbish about Jagielka returning to Sheff Utd?

I know Moyes has been cautious introducing Jags to the first team but thats a ploy that worked well with Lescott last season.

Jags is versatile, hard working and looks a very good purchase. I would be surprised if Moyes allowed him to leave. Especially now since he’s got that starting position.

Neville has never been a centre mid in his life, and never will. Man Utd played him there when they where short, they also had the creative players to pick up from him and drive the team forward. Hes a full back like it or not

Moyes persists playing him there cos he thinks he orgianises the team well from this position. Surely he can do this from right back. In the centre of the park hes near on a liability and struggles to find a blue shirt more often than not.

Yes, I agree, whenever Jagielka has played in that holding midfielder role he has proved to be very effective. As you mentioned his pace, strength and innate ability to pass being his strongest assests.

I initially miffed that Moyes had started Jagielka at RB and Neville in CM against Bolton but I can understand why now. Jagielka would have and proved to be much better at negating the threat of Diouf than Neville ever would have done(Imagine tha amount of freekicks Neville would have committed against a player like Diouf).
Further when Jagielka moved into Midfield it was like an extra substitution, our midfield had been totally revamped(Osman, Gravesen and Jagielka) which proved to be telling against the tired limbs of the Bolton’s midfield.

But in the main I agree Jagielka should be played at CM whislt Neville at RB.

I totally agree with you George.
Jags is better than Neville at CM but for the game against Bolton I think Moyes got it right. It’s nice to have options isn’t it?!

My ideal formation now is:

Howard, Neville, Joey, Lescott, Baines, Mikkey, Gravesen, Jags, Osman/Pienaar, AJ, Yak.

This is with a midfield 4 in a diamond shape and makes us really attacking, although Jags is gonna have to really concentrate.

I reckon come the end of the season we’re going to be saying that Jags was the buy of the summer.

Dutch, if it had been in any other
paper than the rag that is the
People, I may be worried, its just
a upsetting shitty article, by a reporter, with nothing better to do.
I would wish that the club would come out, and rubbish it official.

With regards the rumour of Jagielka loan move: Normally i would be worried with one of our players being linked with a move, but in this case I simply laughed. There is no way Moyes would loan him out. Firstly, he’s been playing really good, and secondly we have a small squad.

I can never get my head around why Moyes thinks Neville is better in central midfield than right back. What does he see in him that I (and a good portion of Blues) cant? I’d have Jags in the middle with Neville at right back, no problem.

Robin, as George and then Ben have already pointed out, Jags is/was clearly more capable at containing Diouf and therefore this warranted his selection. Lets not forget these two are defensive players primarily and subsequently we need to address their defensive strategies/abilities on the field before you start slapping them into any ill concieved offensive strategy.
