Bigger or just better?

Comments (3)

I've notived people mentioning how the squad is larger and more able to cope with more games.

I agree it is better but if you look at the numbers we effectively have one extra striker (Lukas) and one extra midfielder (Grav). Thats it. We got rid of 5 (if you include Manny finishing his loan) and 7 came in

Unless you count the youngsters we still have a small squad.

On the otherhand it is a good team and starting to even become a good squad. Hopefully we'll do very well this year.

The key to the transfer business and the squad assembled by Moyes this season has been the versatility of the player’s that have come in. We have player’s like Jagielka and Neville who can fill a variety of positions, we also now seem to have strength in depth. Two season’s ago we would have missed Tim Cahill badly, it will great when he returns but the player’s who have come in have already started brightly.

But i think the thing that people are most pleased with Rob is our cover in all areas. This is due to having a good few players who can quite easily play more than one position e.g. Jags,Neville,Lescott,Pienaar.
This negates the need to have a spare player for each position while building a good team spirit as it is a smaller squad.

You’re forgetting the three we lost halfway through last season and did not replace in Wier, Davies & Kilbane. Also, we may have more new signings but two of them are loans and, as such, can be recalled if necessary. At the end of the season we will still have to battle with every man & his dog (probably very slowly) if we want to keep them. In real terms we have a much smaller squad but that is just a point of order rather than an issue to be fair as I, like so many other Evertonians at the minute, am quite excited about this season. The quality is infinitely better since those we lost were, almost to the man, deadwood anyway.

Praying for no injuries or exhaustion over the season and we can really shock some people. It’d be great to silence all those promising Spurs would be the only team to break into the top 4 this season. How about us being the only team to have done so and we could be about to make that twice. Hope I haven’t jinxed us with the Mancs up next. COYB.
