Lescott For England
Comments (35)
Can anybody tell me why Lescott has not been picked for England, comfortable on the ball, cool, nicks the odd goal and can defend to?
Don't like making comparisons to other players, I am not saying Lescott is world class but if you compare him with the current defenders, he must be ranked up there.

McClaren is a twat, that’s why. Sol Campbell, Heskey and his diminutive ex-red friend with the glass legs. Need I say more?
I’m not one of those who say that the less call-ups our players get, the better, because I think it makes a big difference to the players’ confidence if they are internationals or not.
But I wouldn’t even let my dog play in the team of that miserable McClaren. (At times when my confidence in Moyes’ abilities hits an all time low, I try to think of McClaren and concentrate. It works all the time.)

I thought there was a chance with Campbell out injured that Lescott would get a late call-up as a replacement.

Dutch, there is a chance he gets a late call-up but only if both Titus Bramble and Tony Adams are unavailable.

The defensive positions are argueably the most contested in the England squad, and it would be difficult for Lescott to gain a starting place. What baffles me is Mclaren picks Steven Taylor, who played in one of the worst defences last year, ahead of Lescott. However, I am happy with the lad staying fit for Everton, and staying away from the England setup, in order to aviod injuries.

Its gonna be hard for any defender to break into the first 11 with England, JT is el Capitano and Rio Grande will alywas partner him in the middle. Left back looks like it could go to Shorey so thats Lescott out. He might get in as cover one day but not yet, he’s still prone to too many lapses in concetration too - I give you as evidence, the Reading goal 2 weeks ago. Very poor defending, but he’ll hopefully eradicate those lapses over time.

lescott has been called up for the games against israel and russia
fully deserved as he is one of the best left sided defenders in the league.

Just been announced - he’s been called up as a replacement for Campbell. F365 describes it as a very sensible decision - couldn’t agree more!

mclaren out i say, never should of been in to be honest!!!
do you see other international teams go for " experience" when players are out through injury. no they try something fresh and new and fit!
he was sh1te at middlesborough and hes sh1te for england. get rid! quick!!!

He is relatively inexperienced at the top level but being in the squad will help him no doubt - good luck to him.
I kind of agree with Harvey about all the 3 lions rubbish, England fans are often very short sighted. All the England songs they sing are an embarrasment; especially the anti German/war songs. Awful.

Steve McClaren was never good enough for the englad job, when he first arrived he started giving players a chance who deserved it, maybe players most england managers would be too scared to try. But now, with the media pressure, he has bottled it, when he selects his side all he thinks about is his reputation on the line. Lescott has firmly proved he is one of the best centre and full backs in the country, mcclaren is just purely blind for not choosing him. If an unfit and old sol campbell gets a chance in england squad, you know its time to start looking for a new england manager, but what do i know, im welsh, my team cant even kick a ball :-)

McClaren is a poor England manager.
The same players seem to get picked every time on reputation alone. Surely players who are on form for their clubs are a much better option?

Your team cant even throw an egg shaped one around too well at the moment either Liam!
PS Im half Welsh so I can say what I like!

Dont worry allan, i take the micky out of the welsh teams myself, so it doesnt bother me.
Funny i just went to look on the official everton site and behold, sol campbell is out, and our very own joleon gets a call up, good to know though that old man sol is ahead of lescott in choice, but will mcclaren give him a game?, if he does, lescott will prove himself to play in the first team regularly if he plays as good as he does for everton. Hibbert for england! (Joke).

Well done Lescott - U desrve it - we knew a season ago.
However guys and i hope u agree - what really really pissess me off is that Saint Michael ofOwen can waltz back into the England team after not paying football for a 100 years - AND THEN DICTATE who his striking partner should be!!!!! What a fucking joke!! I wouldnt even play owen!! But I would play Johnson - simply because the man has been playing reguarly for the last few seasons.
I really do not like McClaren. The majority of u are right when u say he plays players on repuation and that hes bottled it to media pressure. Engaland is embarrassment. Recalling Beckham was a complete joke. I thought the team were going to move on....
Robinson
Richards Lescott Terry A Cole
W-P’s Gerrard Hargreaves J Cole
Rooney Johnson
And stick with it for 90mins for a few games.

Delighted he’s in - watch him get injured.
By the way, didn’t Newcastle get a payout from England for Owen being injured ????? Why haven’t Everton pursued these lines for the Vaughan injury that kept him out until late last year ??? I think we’ve missed a trick there.
Can’t help feeling also that McClaren would rather play the average Stuart Downing at left back before Joleon.
Allan Hobbs

Seth - Rooney’s injured, Gerrard is highly doubtful & Robinson is rubbish (currently)
I wouldnt play Owen & AJ together, too small, too similar. You’re better off with a big man/small man combo and Owen & Heskey always played well as a pair.
AJ should be on the bench as an impact player.

Got to agree with the post about Michael Owen dictating who he wants to play with, Michael Owen is never the player he was he has had years of injuries and lost his pace. It just goes to show how weak and desperate Malcolm McClaren is. Anyway I am no massive England fan but I do like to see our players selected even if the current England team are crap.

Carefull what you wish for lads.
Remember Rooney ? It was rumored that he was tapped up whilst away with England.
Do not want Lescott’s head turned by that shower of under-achievers.

Well done Joleon, you deserve the call up, Baines and Jags to follow in the not too distant future.
Question, when was the last time Everton had 3 or more players in the England squad?
Yet another indicator of progress.

All we need now is for Baines and Jags to get the nod and we might.. just might get some national recognition.

My personal take on our players being called up is that although it great esteem for the club and for the player I just think that when you have someone as special as Joleon it might be another shop window for him to be seen in and another place where he can pick up an injury that would hinder our progress. Selfish view I know but I am Everton 1st and England 2nd

With regards to worries about Lescott getting tapped up while away for England. I do think we have less to worry about these days. (fingers crossed) Don’t forget when Rooney left we’d just finished 17th in the league and the squad was definitely weaker back then.
Obviously playing for England puts him in the shop window but not playing for England would just make him think he has to move anyway to get the chance.
When was the last time we had 3 players in the England squad?

Well done Roger for getting in the England squad.
As for McClaren, he is a very poor England Manager must have learnt from his previous boss Sven.

Some very good points made about injury to Lescott actually!
If got injured for England the average fan wouldnt give a flying fuck, but for everton fans it could ruin the season! However he may only play a small part so not to worry.
Everyone feeling good about being third in the table by the way? U all over Fernandes yet?!!

Erm Lescotts in the England squad

I think the last time we had three players selected was probablly in the mid 80s Linekar, Trevor Steven Gary Stephens and Peter Read 4 actually would have been 5 but Bracewell got injured. Just changing the subject anyone got any ideas what the new stadium should be called? The Golden Vision stadium’ I know they will probably pick some shite name to do with sponsors though

Lescott won’t feature for England anyway, don’t worry. Your twat of a national manager prefers to pick names rather than in-form players. If Robinson is picked for your next couple of games it’ll make McLaren a laughing stock.
I love seeing McFadden playing for Scotland, he seems to turn up for us alot more than he turns up at Goodison.

Its important that our players get international honours so they don?t feel they have to move on to recieve recognition - this is already a potential worry for Arteta we don?t want Joleon to think he needs to leave Everton to break into the national team. We are one of the biggest clubs in the country and it is only fitting that our players are involved in the England team.
As for picking Owen - McClaren is such a spineless twat he now plays percentages with his selection. Examples being recalling Beckham because the national mood seemed to be so, dropping Robinson for the same reason and now recalling Heskey because Owen wants him as his partner. McClaren just goes for the majority decision so he isn?t open to criticism due to making his own decisions.

It is criminal that Mclaren omits Lescott espaecally when Carragher cried off. I think Mclaren is failing badly by picking an over the hill Campbell and Heskey both of whom have little speed these days. Somehow I think McClaren's days are numbered.
