England representation

With AJ, Neville and Lescott all in the England fold and Jags, Baines and Vaughan all representing either the Under 21's or England B side I think its brilliant that so many Everton players have been called up to the national side. Testament to not only how well we are doing but also Moysies policy of buying English and developing our youth program. Who knows, give it a year or so and we could have 5 players in our national side? Sweeet! Just need a new national coach first...McLaren, what a joke!

Do you know what I thought was a load of shite? That it took the injury of an ageing Campbell, for Lescott to get his call up.If you are suppossed to be called up on form,Lescott should have been one of the first names on the team sheet.

Kevin the vast majority of Everton supporters and Liverpool fans for that matter dont give a shit about the national side. Its an old boys club ran by yes man who employ other yes men. Most of us up here on Merseyside couldnt give a rats arse what England get up to.All I can see is more wear and tear on our players and one of them coming back on a stretcher. If not a stretcher then tapped up. England
Terry<>etc get whats coming to them.Keep our players away from the England set up thats what I say.Our lads will soon be dropped when the Blue eyes are all fit.Who knows how that will effect confidence in the future?

Tony, so if England got to the final of the World Cup the vast majority of people on Merseyside wouldnt give a rats arse? Pah!!!
Peter Singer
Posted 04/09/2007 at 10:46:32
A home fixture against Israel is hardly a World Cup final, isn’t it?
Yes, being a full international boosts their confidence, and that’s good for the club as well, no question about that.
The real question is do the players feel that much better being called up that it’s worth the risk of injury.

I NEVER thought i’d say this, but for once I agree with Tony Marsh! WTF!! Even all my RS mates cant be arsed watching England these days!
McLaren is the Biggest YES man ever!! and he should never have got the job! Big Sam was my vote, but he tells people how it is! We couldnt have that!
I like watching England, well I did until Steve got the Nod but they are shit with the "blue eyes" eyes getting picked even when they are playing shite!!!
And, I have to agree about the "tapping up". I was chuffed to bits when Rooney was banging them in for England, next thing is, Rio the cunt and Neville etc start chatting shit about the wonderful Man U and he’s off!
FUCK ENGLAND! I’ll occupy my summer fishing instead of watching the Euro Championships!

Tony Marsh I go to every England game and can assure you that EFC are one of the best represented group of fans at away matches, certainly among premiership clubs. For us seeing AJ,Neville,Lescott and others soon I predict, will be a very proud experience for us Evertonian England fans.

Gary I said up here on Merseyside mate.Scousers who I know used to go to England games stopped going because the other shithouses who follow the national side thought it was a good idea to gand up on anyone with a Scouse accent.I understand why fans like your self follow ENGLAND.All the areas of England who have shit club sides latch on th the England team. Its there way of basking in some reflective glory.Take a look at the flags at the next England away game. You wont see many Liverpool or Everton banners but you will see plenty from places like,Hull,Plymouth,Bournemouth
Dover,Barnsley,Telford ect etc.
Please dont tell us up here what we are all about mate. The England team and its fans are wank.

I’m with Tony Marsh. As an Evertonian of 40 years I have never given a monkeys for the "national" team. I support one team only - Everton! And if I had a choice between England winning the world Cup and Everton winning anything, even the League cup, it would be Everton by a mile! Christ, I’d take another 3-0 derby! I hope Lescott plays shit on his debut and is a one cap statistic and I hope Heskey and Owen do the business so AJ can retire from playing on Englands wing and concentrate on scoring for us!
I must admit tho, I always thought the RS were fans of England?

BS talk aside we’ll all have an interest in the games next week. Yup steve mc always was an awful choice for manager. It’s just a matter of time until he’s gone. Still scant hope for someone better next time around. As long as the same old boys are making the selection it’ll be same old same old. More interestingly.. what about the related issue of British football? For me watching, learning and being inspired by international players every Saturday albeit at the expense of homegrown talent is a good thing for the game longterm. All the FA have to do is think of creative ways to capitalise on the excitement and enthusiasm those players generate in the hearts and mind of british yoof. Geez they’re doing half the job for you and you can’t catch the wave! The FA is THE problem with football in this country. Clueless. In what other area of life is raising the bar on talent and excellence regarded as counter productive to grassroots development?

Calm down Tony. Can I just check that because I dont live in Liverpool that I am not allowed to be a "real" Everton fan even though I have a season ticket and contribute twice a season to match day sponsorship.
Incidentally my 4 travelling companions to England games all live on Merseyside , two of whom are doctors at Alder Hey and all have Everton season tickets.
Check the halfway line at all England away games and you will see the biggest EFC banner you have ever seen.
I apologise that having always believed that "Evertonians are born and not manufactured" that I do not live up to your strict requirements to be a real Everton fan and that my two teenage daughters who have to have their Everton shirts dragged off them in order to have them washed also fail your stringent test.
Incidentally last season I sponsored a pre season friendly between the Blues and AFC Bournemouth and my girls were the mascots and one of them burst into tears when Mikel Arteta hugged her.I now have the heartbeaking task of telling her she cannot be an Evertonian because she was’nt born on Merseyside can anyone let me know the least painful way of breaking this to her.

I can’t believe all these negative posts ! God help us if we start losing matches and end up struggling. People we are 3rd in the league and have our best squad since probably the mid 80’s so lets enjoy it.
Gary you are no less an Evertonian than any of us just because you live in Bournemouth and I’m sure Tony wasn’t having a go at you or your daughters for being blues. Think he was talking about England fans in general. I personally am not arsed about England until the finals when I stupidly get swept along and lets face it our players normally get tapped up whilst on England duty!

I can’t get too excited about a national team packed with overpaid and overrated tossers from Man U, RS, Spurs, etc. If they even occasionally showed us a glimmer of the things that are goo about British football I would give them more credit.
This said, I know that the great majority of players passionately want to play for their country. For them it is a matter of huge pride and self-esteem. So yes, I DO want to see Lescott, Baines, Jagielka, Vaughan, Johnson, Arteta, Anichebe etc playing on the international stage and doing themselves justice there.

There is some truth in what Tony says in as much as:
* We risk our players getting injured
* We add more physical demands through playing & travelling
* They get tapped up by turds like Gary Neville, or get told they should be on more money and give the Club a hard time
* England of late have become an embarrassment that it’s hard to want to be associated with
* It attracts the ’Ingerland’ brain dead fans, again not what you want to be associated with
I agree with all that, but the players see it as an honour and in fact, it is. A strong National Team adds kudos to our League. Who wants to be champions of Madagascar?! Also, not everybody feels the same and we should respect that. There is nothing wrong with being patriotic - in my view as long as your eyes are open to the fact that England / UK is not perfect and we can learn from other nations too.
One other point, perhaps we have so many players involved with England now because we are getting bigger and better. That in turn will attract better players to our Club in the long run and that is good for all of us.

Personally I’m not particulary interested in England but I do want to watch the game to see how AJ, Neville & Lescott perform on the big stage, if any of them are even selected for the first team.
I’ll also try and catch the Nigeria game, not because I support them in anyway but because I want to see Everton players at International level.
Hopefully AJ & Lescott will be involved somewhere over the two games, the added experience of playing for England will only help them cope better when Everton play Euro games. Neville of course already has more Euro experience then most.
International experience for Anichebe must also be a good thing for his development.
When you think about it, with the Captain Yobo, star striker Yakubu and debutee Anichebe, Everton’s profile in Nigeria must be massive by now.

Actually Tony you started off by saying that "the vast majority of Everton supporters and Liverpool fans for that matter dont give a shit about the national side" - I think you’d find that would be outside of Merseyside. Glory hunters like myself who’ve supported the club for 25 years from afar.
However, you’re telling someone not to comment on where you’re from whilst on the other hand making massive generalisations about Gary and even England fans as a whole - Genius!
I realise that sometimes you like to write things to provke reaction, but really in those posts you come accross as bigotted, ignorant and a bit sad. I realise that we’re sitting in third, so you might be stuggling a bit but please don’t vent your frustrations on fellow Evertonians.
Personally, I see it only as a positive that our players are in their respective national squads - but it probably doesn’t matter as I havent got a scouse accent.

This topic was about the success of our players getting into the England squad, Tony you may not care for England, but aswell as being an Evertonian I am proud to be English 2! as are many everton fans.

Here in Singapore, where approx. half the country’s football followers are Reds, it is by proxy that they would support England. I don’t know whether it’s player familiarity, colonial hangover, Beckham’s hair or whatever, but it’s amusing nontheless.

I think my original post was really highlighting the fact that Everton have come a long way in the past few years. There hasnt been many Everton players in the England set up for a long time and now we have several. Before Neville who was our last representative? Hinchcliffe? Michael Ball? They were yeeeeaars ago!!

Yep ... I share Tony’s apathy, even antipathy, about "In-ger-land". It only represents opportunity for our best players to be injured or "tapped-up" a la Rooney. Remember Moyes didn’t want Rooney to play for In-ger-land for SonyErickisson to announce that Rooney needed to play Champions League footie? Great! And you bet SAF tells Neville and the pimp what to say to who.
Oh yeah and In-ger-land play all home games at "Wem-ber-ley" until 2036. F**k O**!

All of the england players are publicity tossers and pricks, why should our boys play for them, plus ive been to a few tournaments and can honestly say that the england fans are generally the biggest bunch of earringed obnoxius twats in europe, oh wait the world.
Intrenatioonal footy is shit. End of. Anyone who calls themselves a blue and spends next saturday clapping rio or singing ’super frank’ and ’stevie gee laaa’ songs is a fucking hypocrite in my book.
