The Mail Bag

On a pessimistic note

Comments (8)

Sorry to bring this up like but, although I am enjoying this particular period in our illustrious history, I am still trying to work out where the money has come from. My only fear is that we have a repeat of the Walter Smith false dawn, when a lot of money was shelled out and promptly recouped through fire sales as we headed towards financial oblivion. Can anyone out there cheer me up by demonstrating what a pessimistic tosser I am. On a more up beat note, will people please get off Johnson's back and give his partnership with Yak a chance, it could blossom into something special, but not if you keep peeing on the roots.

This has been talked about at length on here already and the general concensus is that now Robert Earl is on the board that he is the guy who has fronted the recent money.

I don’t think its anything to worry about Marcus, the guys loaded.

PS You’re a pessimistic tosser.

Earl’s not that loaded, Allan, and he didn’t join the Board to pump money into the club — although his presence on it may have helped the club borrow against the future TV deal revenue.

Earl’s interests in Everton are believed to be commercial, not to finance player purchases.

Allan, I?m with Lyndon on Earl, I don?t know how rich he is but from what I understand he is not investing directly into the club other than through the purchase of his shares. I am worried that we?ve borrowed against future success and I don?t have enough faith in the people running the club to believe otherwise. I do however agree with you on one point though........

Oh, errr, ok then , I’ll bow to superior knowledge.

I’m sending a cheque for 3 quid to Goodison - every little helps.

Sudden spending and still the impression is given that Everton might flash the cash again in January if the right players are available !

Does all that fit neatly into a story that is going the rounds that a really serious effort is being made to sell the club and obviously any buyer will be happier to fork out for a club that is doing well.

According to that story , Kirby is the Plan B and a new buyer still has the right to vary that agreement.

Worth a thought because Everton FC is the subject of an aggressive campaign to hawk us off ahead of the stadium move ?

Does anybody know anything about such a development ?

I’ve heard faint rumblings that the club is up for sale but nothing concrete, if it’s true then we’re pursuing a high risk strategy, to coin a phrase ’what is our plan B?’ Whenever I read about clubs being for sale our name is rarely mentioned, however David Dein’s recent remarks about 3 or 4 PL clubs up for sale got me thinking, I know he’s big pals with Bill. Is there any substance to the rumour?

From the mouth of Derek Mountfield (allegedly)... Moyes told the board he needed more money and if it wasn?t forthcoming he?d be off... Lo and behold £20m turned up... also from the mouth of Degsy (allegedly)... Robert Earl said, "Why didn?t they ask me earlier"? This is obviously an abridged version of the alleged conversation. I have no reason to doubt the validity of the conversation and I believe Earl will in all probability take his £20M plus interest once the club is sold... more than likely to one if his Yankie mates.

Earl is on a winner with his position on the board being the catalyst for him to provide information to potential buyers to ensure a quick and easy takeover and I don?t have a single problem with any of it... because in the end, he?s lent us the money to buy class players so if he cuts n runs with a profit who cares? It?ll mean we?ve got the finance to match anyone in the prem..

The money’s from the same source as what everyone else in the prem is spending, TV and league money.
The difference is Moyes twisted it out of tight-arse Kenwright who was, as usual, sticking down to enhance the reasons for moving to Kirkby.
