Foreign technical coach

Do Everton need another coach to help out with preparation for European games? I am not just thinking about this season's Uefa Cup, but the future. I sometime think Moyes and Irvine can be a little naïve when it comes to tactics and you wouldn?t exactly say our passing is fluent and crisp. Maybe a continental coach might bring some new ideas...

Dont think Moyes would buy into it, we do need to do our home work a bit better this time and hope they have learned a few lessons from our last UEFA experience

I dont think thats a bad idea; we’d certainly benefit from a bit of European nouse. Moyes is very much a British manager to my mind so yeah, good plan. Suggest it to him would you.

Would you like someone hovering over you helping you to be a father/ husband/ worker?
It’s a good idea, but it won’t happen. Moyes and Irvine can and will learn from past mistakes, including our last soiree in europe.

I think we should leave it as it is.Moyes and Irvine seem to get on well, and there doesn’t seem to be a clash of personality’s.I just think we need to have a different game-plan for europe,to how we play in the prem(obviously).Hopefully,Moyes will have learnt from our last euro jaunt, and will have the tactics right, playing the european sides.

I am not sure how a third coach would fit in, to many chiefs comes to mind. But I agree we do need to play two different types of game if we want to progress, there is some decent sides in this cup and tactic’s are so important when you play two legs. The RS seem to get there game plan spot on in these European games and I do see the logic in having a foreign coach / adviser when you come up against some of the less known European teams.

Not sure about another coach, but our scouting system needs to be addressed, to many young Evertonians slipping through the net.

What examples of tactical naivety can you give from previous european games?
I think we got the tactics against Villarreal just right. We created a British type game and really rocked them. They were lucky to win that game and in the second leg we were... well, we all know what happened then and we only lost because we were throwing everything forward to try to score.
Dynamo Bucharest was just a good old fashioned English cricket style capitulation.

Nice one Dave, damn right about the Bucharest game too!
Pierluigi Collina anyone?!

Steve Gray, if you mean those lads who had been with us until the age of 14 or so, it’s not the scouts’ fault.
Assessing our own players’ abilities is a youth coach’s job, but I don’t think we are that bad in judging talent.
Yes, we’ve missed out on some but hadn’t Newcastle missed out on Alan Shearer? Accidents like this do happen all the time.
