Man U or Liverpool?
Comments (46)
I'd just like to know how you all feel about our matches against Man U and Liverpool. Maybe its the Rooney thing or the fact that I don't live in Liverpool but for me beating the Mancs means slightly more than beating the Reds across the park. Don't get me wrong, I love when we turn over that lot next door but I've come to really hate Man U. What's the general consensus among Evertonians about both these teams?
Also, there hasn't been much said about it but does anyone know how the LFC crowd conducted themselves when Z-Cars was played at Anfield last week? Was there booing etc or did they behave well?

To be fair though, like any set of supporters would dare to tarnish a tribute to a slain child just because of another team’s tune.
Also, as one newspaper bloke put it, not even Liverpool could bare to run out to Z-cars so played You’ll Never Walk Alone when coming from the tunnel.

I dont care if we lose to Utd, I do however care even if we draw with the shite. I’d rather beat them than anyone, ever. : ))

Being from Dublin, evertonians are in the minority with the vast majority supporting either United or Liverpool.
I have little or no malice towards United, but hate the RS.
I would prefer a rubbish 1 nil victory over Liverpool rather than a beautiful 10 nil over United......anyday!!

I never liked Liverpool, but never hated them that much till they got lucky and won the champions league, and BeneathUs snatched Sissoko from us, and finally, he called us a ’small team’.
ggrrrrr.. that did it.

Them winning the title realy winds the reds up.
So gives us more ammo to wind them up. Give me a derby victory though any day of the week.
In all my 46 years, the sweetest moments have been when we stuff them.
Oh please a derby victory this season to listen to the excuses of the fat waiter.
I hate him more than i hated the French fool.

I struggle to understand how any Evertonian could have no malice towards Man Utd when they were instrumental in luring Rooney away. I remember seeing a picture of Alex Ferguson and Paul Stretford laughing and joking on a golf course just before the 2004 European Championships and realising that some very underhand dealings were going on behind Everton?s back. Regardless of any internal difficulties Everton were facing at the time, Ferguson was doing his utmost to unsettle Rooney in the hopes of forcing Everton?s hand. He actually said when they bought him that it had come a year earlier than he would?ve liked and it was only when he thought Rooney might be sold to another club did he act. He wanted to get Rooney on the cheap by trying to make sure he would not sign a new contract at Everton and then buying him when he only had a year left.
I also remember being relieved that Gravesen ended up going to Real Madrid in January 2005 because there were number rumours surfacing beforehand that Ferguson was planning on taking him on a free at the end of the season. I really couldn?t have faced another defection so close to the Rooney thing.
Ferguson and the Utd board have tried their best to screw us over massively over the past few years and this is where most of my animosity towards them has stemmed from.
I know some of our other players have defected to Liverpool in recent seasons as well but the circumstances of the Rooney transfer just seem more deceitful to me which is why I probably dislike Utd more.
Don?t get me wrong, I still share everyone else?s dislike for the RS and look forward to us beating both teams this year (home and away)!!!!

I’ve put Rooney well out of my mind, and I still cheer him on in an England shirt.

What I can say however, is that in all this time paying attention from a distance, I have come to utterly loath the RS. It’s not down to some manufactured, ’I wanna relate and participate, too!’ mindset, either.
It’s down to the way that club conducts itself on and off the pitch, from the owners down thru the ball boys. Spoilt, entitled, crybabies. Every decision goes their way, be it an FA ruling or a penalty. I can’t imagine the agony it must be for you local Blues to watch the smug prats parade all thru the city after they ’win’ some cup or other.
So it’s a victory over the Sh*te for me. I don’t like the concept of a big four, and was very upset about Rooney-gate (tho I’m not anymore), but give me a 3-0 like last time and I’m made up for the month!

’I struggle to understand how any Evertonian could have no malice towards Man Utd when they were instrumental in luring Rooney away.’
The truth is that Everton Football Club personified by Bill Kenwright were desperate to offload Rooney. It just happened to be Manchester United who had a prerequisite wad of cash.
If Chelsea would have bid £30 million he’d have gone there; if Liverpool would have had £30 million and 50p he’d have gone there...
Kenwright needed the money.., Rooney was sold to get Everton FC out of the financial shit... end of.

A derby win every time for me!
I guess its a monday morning at school or work thing - they were hell in the seventies and the RS, no matter how they call the mancs & chelskis, were the most insufferable dicks when they won! I would support the combined might of the Waffen SS, KGB & Beelzebubs legions against that shower of shite!
Clive f#cking Thomas didnt help either!

I?m sure there was an element of relief from the bank manager when Rooney was sold but the point I was making is that I don?t like it when our players our ?tapped up? by another club, hence why I want us to stuff them even more.
Anyway, we?re getting a bit off track here. Rooney?s gone and we?re on the ascendancy again. Onwards and upwards I say!

The reason Rooney was always going to leave our club was due to the fact that he was too good. As much as it pains me to say it, the way he burst onto the scene, straight into the England squad and playing the way he does. We were just not an attractive enough prospect for a player as good as him. At nearly £30m there aren’t many clubs outside the top 4 that would have turned that down, whether they were desperate to offload or not. Hopefully we are now becomming a team that players like him would want to stay at.
On the Scum Utd vs RS debate, it’s gotta be beating the RS that wins every time. I read further up that somebody said that the Scum would be a bigger footballing scalp, well maybe in previous seasons, but the way this one’s started I’m not so sure. It pains me to say it, but it looks like the RS have finally got a team that can challenge for the title. God I hope they don’t win it! It’s bad enough putting up with the European Cup crap, never mind if they win their first Premiership title. It doesn’t bear thinking about!

We should respect them and love! How dare we insult these fine human beings.
P.S. Paul Stretford is lovely guy and I for one hope he doesn’t die of a very painful cancer of the arse!
33 Posted 04/09/2007 at 19:08:54
Anyway, I’d also take a win against Liverpool and a defeat from the Mancs over the other way around.

Rooney wasn’t tapped up... he was touted.
Things were spinned to make things look otherwise.
So... the deal that ’saved’ EFC was spun to suggest that a greedy bastard left to be a manc... 35,000 Blues boo Rooney and Kernwright rubs his hands...
The Rooney deal was one very big confidence trick
... not for sale for ’50 million poubd my arse’

I’m going to make a new years resolution to get up 1/2 hour earlier. So i can hate Liverpool longer.

If you are going to post something like that at least do so with your full name or real name and don’t be such a coward about it.

Chris Massey sums it up for me; "do I look out for Man U?s score to gain extra satisfaction if they lose, no. Do I look for Liverpools, YES. If Everton win and Liverpool lose, it is the perfect weekend. Even more so if we are the ones that cause defeat"

We do owe the Mancs a thrashing though.
Howard comes to mind just recently.
Also who remembers the the fun we had when we put five past them all them years ago.
44 Posted 04/09/2007 at 23:36:06
I actually agree with Kevin Sparke on the Rooney scenario. Selling him probably meant the club could pay off a banking covenant or similar which in essence saved the club.
Kenwright got his mate Freddy Shepherd to send a joke fax with Newcastles bid of 20 mill on it just to make Manure up the ante.
And it worked.
By the way Allan, how’s your Nan, and your creeping towards glib again mate.

Neil, your last question appears to have been overlooked since your original post. Perhaps you should have posted it separately?
I too have been interested in the "opposition’s" response. Only Alan Codd, Nick Entwistle and Allan Hobbs posted any reference to it within this posting.
I viewed it within the LFC website. This is, so far, the only site I have been able to see it for myself. Yes, it IS slanted towards the other half of Merseyside but it does show a tremendous unity within the community. Watch Crouch and see how he is the first LFC player to make any move that shows support. After watching it, even with its slant, tell me it is not a moving tribute that should be seen by all of us "Evertonions" with a link somewhere.
Apologies to the TW staff for the link, it needs to be viewed by us "Evertonians."
Link:
http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N156827070829-1346.htm
Select the best option for your viewing and watch - it is truly a moving tribute - even it does come from a LFC site. This is not a time to discuss RS et al, it is a time to unite.
Thank you for a chance to respond
