Playing for England

I am glad that Joleon Lescott has been recognised for his outstanding form and included in the England squad. As a fan of Everton and as an Englishman it pleases me to see someone so happy to fulfill a dream many of us shared as kids.

In contrast to Jolen we have Carragher of Liverpool who is throwing a tantrum because basically he isn't quite as good as Terry or Ferdinand. Carragher is 29 and when you consider other defensive stalwarts like Shilton and Pearce played for England until they were about 40 it amazes me that the red bastard is turning his back on his country so soon. Despite his long record of scoring own-goals and conceding penalties for his club in crucial games, Mr Carragher seems to think that either he should be treated as the top dog or he will not play at all. I saw him and Gerrard's little inbread faces peering out of the stand on Saturday dressed up like the likely lads and couldn't help but feel grateful that since we sold Jeffers we no longer have any jumped little tossers in our team.

Good luck to Joleon, Phil and Andy, Evertonians and Englishmen we can all be proud of.

Yup his is a refreshing example of a genuine enthusiasm and determintaion for the game. Lets just hope he can maintain that and by association the quality it brings to his game. as your mail illustrates.. too often inclusion in the national team seems to be bad for players heads.

Being a total realist,I see it as a sad indictment of the state of the game in England that the likes of Neville and Johnson are called up for International duty.IMHO Neville has never been good enough and has certainly not improved since his transfer to our club.Johnson has failed to find the net in his 7 games so far in the England shirt and in his last dozen or so for Everton.
Lescott is a different matter.He has shone almost from his first game in the Prem and the time he has spent at full-back will have given him a wider appreciation of the defender’s art.
I wish them all well but I do fear for England’s future if our two as well as James and Heskey are the best England can call on.

Inbred with who? Gerrard & Carragher were both Evertonians as kids from Liverpool! Think about what you are saying!

I hate the red shite as much as anyone but I can understand Carragher here. he has been treated poorly by England and I disagree strongly with your statement that Rio Ferdinand is a better player! is he f#ck!

I would choose Carragher over both Terry and Ferdinand every time!

You only have to watch Carragher on European nights for Liverpool to see his desire and passion. Terry is a poor role model for kids with his constant berating of referees should never be England captain (i9 think Gerrard should be captain by the way) and Ferdinand or should i say ’Mr Hoof’ is so over rated!! Don?t you just want to reach inside the TV and give him a right good slap when United or England score and he jumps on the backs of his team mates in the air?

I for one dont blame him for quitting the England set up. Must be so frustrating having to watch those two pricks play all the time knowing that you were better.

I completely agree with Carragher’s decision, it’s laughable how he is constantly was ignored. It’s also incomparable to Lescott’s reaction. Furthermore, Carragher actually suggested Lescott, on five live, as one of the reasons he should step aside.

If Carragher didn’t play for the reds, and didn’t play well, I’d go as far as to say that he comes across as a nice guy. He even has an Everton tattoo.
