New Stadium wish-list
Comments (32)
Before we know it, we are likely to have a new stadium. Now is the time, before the final details are agreed, to put together a fans' wish-list for the club and designers to consider. As a starter for 10, I have included below a few things I'd like to see during my matchday experience:
- An EFC visitor centre including the David France Collection
- Dixie Dean's statue at the head of a tree-lined walkway leading to the ground
- An entrance framed with brick St Domingo Towers
- EFC sports bars with comfortable seating, carpets, good quality food... and no queues!
- "Stations of the Cross"-style points around the ground forecourt commemorating glorious EFC events/players/etc.

The Dixie Dean statue leading up to the Dixie Dean Main stand would be fantastic. I’m glad the debate has moved onto ground like this now the vote is over.

1. A visitors center? in a town of 40k. We are throwing away the rest of our history, why bother with some collection picked out of a skip.
4. Can?t see the queues being a problem longterm.
How about...
6. A stadium less than 8 miles from our city centre for a start.

We can have Kenright as Judas. Collecting his 30 pieces of silver.
I know thats not actually on the stations of the cross before someone tells me off. But thought i’d get it in there.
God bless and go forth my son.

Try to glamourise this fiasco all you like with pretty trees and fancy designs but it will still be a cowshed in Kirkby. Why should the Dixe Dean statue go any where >near that place.Dixies ashes were spread over the pitch at Goodison<>park not some land fill site in Knowsley. You make me sick thinking a few trees and a statue<>taken from its rightfull place

Whoever you want to blame for allowing us to get in this position of being cap in hand to Tesco is irrelevant. We can’t afford to build on our own and that isn’t going to change in the next 10 years. There is no Sugar Daddy waiting in the wings to save us.
To all you guys and girls who do nothing but bitch about the proposed ’Tescodome’, if you don’t like it don’t go! No-one is forcing you.
Now, how about the rest of us put some positive thought into making this cowshed something we can be proud of? It’s the 50000 of us turning up that are going to see it.

’We’re just not in that business,’ he said when referring to the France Collection.
Truth is, he isn’t one of us and has no regard for our heritage and traditions.Blue Bill plays at it but is too weak to stand up ’His Wydeness’
Personally,I’ve lost interest in the move issue as I suspect ’Kirkby’will never see the light of day

Have a couple of days out, Go to Reading, Middlesborough, Botlon, Wigan, Coventry etc.etc. If you still think it is a good move then write and let us know. Until then put up or shut up.

For your information I was Born off Spellow lane and worked on Ashcroft road Kirkby so I don’t need you to tell me.
Like any true Everton supporter my heart will be in pieces the day we will have to move but if this is the only choice we have then as much as I hate to say it lets get on with it and be happy. We have a team starting to show promise and a brighter future one we have not had for years.
If this is too much for you, someone being happy, then you can go f... yourself and let us glow in the future and what may be. Long time since we could be positive.
Back into your slime pit Marsh and let us enjoy the moment.

As for taking a day trip, I can’t comment on Boro and Coventry but had been to Bolton and Reading and do you know what I got? Unobstructive views and some service at halftime! I’ve travelled 200 miles to Goodison on many occasions and even taken in the tour a few times but time waits for no-one.

Personally I feel that the Dixie Dean statue should be left in its current position by Goodison Park - as a memorial to Goodison. Maybe they could build a new statue of Everton legends (including Dixie Dean of course).
Hopefully, Everton could install some terraces for standing room. I know they are currently banned, but there are campaigns to reintroduce this into British football. Everton could be at the forefront of this movement.
Incidently, is the Tony Marsh of this forum actually the Tony Marsh of old. Marsh’s posts of a couple of months ago were eliquint, if scathing comments - allways an interesting read, whether you agreed with him or not. However, in recent weeks, the new Marsh has been abusive and barely intelligable.
Sorry, if I’m missing something, I havn’t been on for a while, but I was just wondering if this was an imposter Marsh, or if the move to Kirby had simply pushed Tony over the edge?

As I recall, where the Dixie statue is now used to be the corner of a street containing grotty little two-up,two-down slums! Rightful place??? Bollocks!
Every time somebody makes the effort to shed a little positive light on a possible move to Kirkby the same old grumblers emerge from the woodwork. And that is fine, they have a right to do that but may I suggest that anybody else who tries to look on the bright side needn’t bother as you are merely opening a door for some to try to re-ignite old (lost!) arguments.
If, in ten years time, we were in Kirkby and were celebrating the third league win on the trot and were about to go to some exotic stadium in Europe to try to bring the Champions League trophy back home for the third consecutive year these moaning buggers would STILL be there cribbing about leaving Liverpool!
If the moaners are not interested in the name of the new stadium or how it should look then don’t bother responding. Instead, start your own thread about how awful it is that the majority didn’t agree with your views and that thread could carry on interminably until the sun goes cold without bothering anybody else.
I have been going to Goodison Park for 52 years. I will cry buckets when we go! But I will not cry buckets for leaving Liverpool. Everton Football Club is OLDER than the present boundary of the city and far more important to me than the city itself...and far more important than any other football outfit who may inhabit it and who I don’t give a shit about.
Wherever Everton go I go too and I could not give a shit whether some of our own supporters consider a move to be some kind of a loss or whether supporters of any other club perceive it as some kind of a victory which, I suspect, is what the moaners are really moaning about!
For fuck’s sake move on.
25 Posted 06/09/2007 at 03:30:22
DON’T RESPOND TO HIM!!! Stick with the theme of the thread. Don’t let him change the subject. Look, I’m doing it now!!
On the original thread - Vincent, all great ideas. This is the sort of thing that should be passed on to the club. Thanks for the positive post.

I think a lot of people are missing the point with regards to the location, most of the new grounds recently created are half empty on match day, why is that ? Surely Boro,Bolton and Coventry (forget Wigan they dont count)fans all wanted new facilities such as laid out for us ?
They did but they didnt want them in the middle of nowhere outside of the community they were used too. I am pretty sure a lot of us who voted no will be reserving judgement on whether to go to the new ground or not, if Kirkby becomes a reality. You can call that view fickle but that is football. I prefer to think of myself as a tradittional sort of fan and I expect more than a shiny new ground to placate my match day experience. I am all for moving but not to somewhere souless,I think a lot of Boro,Bolton and Coventry fans have since felt that way too. We are Everton and we deserve better, I for one would put my hand in my pocket to achieve that aim.

If this is not possible I’d settle for ’EFC’ written in blue lazers on the bottom of clouds (that would be just as good).

I want state of the art and I want tradition. Statues, emblems, brick built wotsits and so on would help alot. I really think though that we need to attempt to make match day what it is at Goodison. We can never replicate the great old boozers, chippies and narrow horse shit ridden streets that make it a unique experience, but could we make sure there are enough bars and eateries so that supporters can go early - have a pint and something to eat, and while the inevitable car queues abate stay and have a post match bevvy (at a decent price) at the ground.
Everton has a great chance to create a matchday event as long as they remember that supporters dont pay £3 quid for a pint in the Netley!
Also Dave Roberts mentioned that the Dixie statue was near the site of the old 2 up 2 down slums. Once upon a time the club owned these and I believe that Dixie lived in one for a time! Just a useless piece of info!
Lets move on fellahs, the Tony Marsh’s of this world will catch up like a fat boy running for the ice cream van.
