No Matter What!

Comments (15)

I've had a season ticket for most of my natural.... But sadly not within the qualifying period to qualify for a vote. If I had I would've said yes. So damn me to hell. My dad was a brickie who worked on the new-ish cathedral so I qualify as a fully fledged bluenose, ok?! With me so far, good.....

I spent 22 years in the RAF and followed our beloved blues all round the country and still held a season ticket... Even when I was in Northern Ireland and paid full wack for my flights to the mainland to watch the ONLY TEAM THAT MEANS ANYTHING!!

My point: I love Goodison to bits but I will travel to the ends of the earth for this special football club!! I implore you, my fellow Evertonians, unite, yes or no, Kirkby or otherwise, follow the boys in Blue.... NO MATTER WHAT... sincerely, a Bluenose to the core.

The point he’s making is that all the people who are no voters should stop talking about not going to games anymore when/if we move to Kirkby. The point is, that it doesnt matter where Everton play, he’ll still love/follow/watch them - a point echoed by the majority of the yes voters in fact.

I agree with him by the way.

I agree completely, Wayne, but I fear that too many of the "No" voters will put their own agenda before supporting Everton if/when we move to Kirkby. Of course, that is their right, but you do then have to wonder what the definition of "supporter" is...

I don’t want to go to Kirkby but I agree whole heartedly, I will renew my season ticket and watch them wherever, I am a Blue and this goes beyond where the ground is situated.

And I am sick and tired of these people saying they will no longer go the game when we move. I say good riddance to bad fans, I would wager that the majority of them very rarely go the game anyway, as if they did they would not worry about moving just that the team performs.

Tony the fact is to alot of people the 90 minutes is only part of the process the whole matchday feeling is going to change for these people I will get my season ticket when we move but I am dreading the thought that I will go and it just wont be right and you can bet your life a good few will try it out and say its not for them.
These people who are going to stop going will still be blue till the day they die dont slag them as I am sure they are hurting because I am devastated .
I have spoke to many man utd lads who only go the aways and europe because their matchday feeling changed when the prawn buttie brigade invaded old trafford your talking years of loving a certain ritual just being taken away.

But Paul ... wouldn’t that be the same wherever we moved to? Even the Bestway site is about 2 miles from Goodison. With your argument the only option would be to redevelop Goodison - which the club have catatgorically stated is not financially viable.

Remember that only a fraction Everton fans live within walking distance of Goodison, for them they won’t be able to roll into the oak and have a few beers before and after the game, but there’s a hell of a lot us who haven’t been able to do that for years. I’m from South Loverpool, but there’s also a hell of lot of fans who come over from North Wales and Chester, and don’t forget ... there’s also shitloads of Everton fans from Kirkby (I.E. Alan Stubbs!).

It’s quite a selfish reason to not want Everton want to move ... just because they’re moving away from your home.

Mark I am not for one minute saying we should not move infact I know we have to its just where we are moving to.
Make no bones about it it will be soulless they just basically want you to eat everton food drink everton drink so there will be nothing else but a flat pack stadium .
But Mark are you silly enough to believe what the club say ?
There is another thread on here were a shareholder asked for copies of feasibility studies on redeveloping goodison and other possible alternatives , they refused most probably because they dont exist.
The history of lies we have been told makes me never want to trust these men with such an important decision can you honestly say you trust them ?
But lastly I just cannot for the life of me understand how they are wanting to leave a city thats growing so much to a town near farmland miles away

Paul, don’t you think it’s a bit lame to say that the reason you’re not going to support your team is because "it just won’t be right" or that "it’s not for them"?

We go on about Evertonians being born, not manufactured, but that’s obviously not the case if there are "Evertonians" who are not willing to go to Kirkby because it upsets their matchday ritual.

I just don’t understand these people, isn’t what Everton do on the pitch what it’s all about??

Paul, I see where you are coming from with regards to the matchday atmosphere but how can you say that our new ground may not have a better atmosphere?

Probably won’t but we cannot say for sure and for the "Blue til I die" fans who feel "it is not for them".......give me a break, it’s not for them!!!!!.. give me strength, Everton is more than a historic ground, it is a team, one I intend to follow and not jib just because it has moved away from County Road and my pre match pub Orrys.

Regarding your ManUre mates, who only go the away games......what the f@%k?

Tony Williams - ?good riddance to bad fans?

I go to ALL the home games and a lot of the away. When we move to Kirkby I probably won?t renew my season ticket. I have a 430 mile round trip for the home games and going to Kirkby will not inspire me to make the effort. .

I just think it is too far away from the city centre. It will lose some of the current season ticket holders and where are the new season ticket holders going to come from? As far as I know there is no waiting list of fans for season tickets at Goodison (nb views would not be obstructed!).

As for transport away from the new ground ? it is recipe for chaos and long waits. Looking at a map of Kirkby there are a lot less places to park compared to the areas around Goodison. The rail system appears to branch after Kirkdale, thus there will be less trains to Kirkby than are currently available at Kirkdale. Also due to being further away from the centre a higher percentage of our support will need to use a car or public transport.

If we do get 50,000 then, at the end of the match, the following questions need to be answered:
- How many busses will you need for Park & Ride?
- How long will it take to get on those busses and back to the car parks?
- How will it attract families if they have to fight their way on those busses?

IMO the most important thing about Everton is the supporters. The thought of our long-term support diminishing for some undefined (to my mind!) possible financial gain is too hard to take.

Brian, so you are not prepared to travel an extra 5 mins to watch Everton because the ground will be in Kirkby?

Makes perfect sense to me that????

Come to think of it, I won’t be able to go to Orrys and walk the match anymore so I may aswell cancel my season ticket also, I can’t be bothered getting the train/bus to the game. Everton don’t mean that much to me.

As a side point, there is a train every 15 mins to Kirkby from Sandhill/Kirkdale

Tony,
5 mins and the rest.

Actually Kirkby is closer for me, but that is not the point. I am more concerned with the whole match day experience. I don?t want it to end up like Bolton ? half empty stadium in the middle of nowhere.

I agree with the sentiments of Wayne’s letter.

As an enthusiastic ’yes’ voter there is a line on the map where I wouldn’t follow us to, that would be anywhere further than Bootle, Kirkby, Speke or Huyton, all of which are staunchly scouse places and are considered by most as ’Liverpool’ places. Go beyond these places though and you’re heading towards Crosby, Prescot, Cronton and Widnes to the south and I would be frothing at the mouth with bitterness like Tony Marsh. Kirkby though i’m well pleased with.

There seems to be a common theme from the people who are going to refuse to go to Kirkby, along the lines of "a soulless half empty stadium, with no atmosphere". But isn’t their absence going to be the cause of all of this??

They won’t go to Kirkby, because of the atmosphere from a half empty stadium.

The stadium will be half empty, with no atmosphere, because people who used to go to Goodison won’t go to Kirkby.

Am I missing something??? This is a circular argument, a self fulfilling prophecy I get the impression the "No" voters seem particularly keen to fulfil.

FFS, come along to Kirkby (if we DO end up there!), support the team you profess to support, and help to create the atmosphere and match day experience you want!! It’s that simple!

Or stay away and help create the situation you say you want to avoid... and with it contribute to the decline of our club

It’s up to you.

My first reaction to the move (before the vote) was I would stop going to home games as I despise the liar that Kenwright has become. But then I started thinking FOR 50 SEASONS Everton have been the main thing (other than family) in my life. I climb the walls in the close season... in fact if I had my way the close season would be for two weeks so people can get a holiday. So how could I just stop? So, although I hate the idea, I'll go.

Having said that, I will miss the Utd match on doctors orders so this is the second home game I have missed and as I always go to the likes of Bolton etc that?s 3 this season. This is my worst record since I left school yet people on here question our support because of the No vote. I do not believe the distance would deter anyone... Come on, Tony Marsh and Ian Mac (to name just two) would crawl over broken glass to see the game ? it's all about principles.
