The Mail Bag

Kharkiv or Kharkov

Who cares how they spell it, I only wish the club would get the ticket allocation settled for the away leg! How hard is it for the club to ask for 2,000 tickets from a 30,000-capacity stadium? They get average gates of 12,500 and high gates of 20,000.. what do you reckon Everton will ask for?!

Whilst we're all waiting, we're booking flights/hotels etc, how are you getting there? We are flying from Lpool to Riga to Kiev overnight train to Kharkiv... I know of others who are going via Prague/Kiev as well as the daytrippers direct to Kharkiv. Any other ways of getting there?

I live in Kharkov (russian spelling which is predominant here).
I fly between london and here sometimes and it is a pain to get to; one reason why I chose it! Austrian fly from Heathrow via Vienna, expensive but the best option (6am flight out of heathrow though); the leg into kharkov is on a small plane; about 50 seats so sells out fast.
Alternative is BA to Kiev and then train or bus, or even taxi (about $150 one way so if 3 or 4 sharing makes sense). Taxi can take 4 -6 hours depending how crazy the driver is. Bus from airport is easiest option. Train is more complicated depending how good your russian is ! Buses and trains are cheap, about $20 each way. Though avoid the "plaskart" on the overnight train unless you are toughened .. I have a blog I don’t update much at http://kharkov.wordpress.com
