It would appear that we are going for the record number of negative posts regards today?s match.
Anthony Newell, you obviously believe Moyes has had enough time and should go that is up to you. I, on the other hand, do not think the same. I look at what has happened and give what in my opinion is a balanced view.
Yes, I was pissed off and with the result today and yes, we had a chance of taking points. But I am not going to scream for Moyes head yet. In fact it will take a lot more than a one-nil loss against Man Utd.
I do not believe I see things through blue-tinted glasses but although at times it is difficult I try to provide a balanced view. Maybe our expectations have risen and some are looking through NSNO-tinted glasses. Those days are long past and five years ago I never thought we would ever get them back. Today, I can see signs they will return ? especially now that proper money as started to be spent.
We didn?t make space for the pass during the match and this made it difficult for us to play a passing game. I put the majority of the blame for this on the players. This is a basic skill of a footballer even at the low level I used to play and I do not believe the coaching staff not just Moyes have told them to do otherwise...
Wessels not at fault for the goaland over all had a quiet game but was confident with what he did. Only negative was that on a couple of occasions he did not come out for balls the centre-backs expected him to claim. He appears to be good back-up for Howard. It cannot be easy to not play in the first team and then be thrown in the deep end.
Hibbert: solid not spectacular, as expected; he is an out-and-out defender, nothing more. It would be easy to criticise him for his distribution but today no-one was making space for the pass. In addition, Arteta tended to be drifting in looking for the ball so he had no-one on the right to link up with.
Lescott: solid dependable rarely looked in trouble only negative was he and Yobo dropped back too much despite Moyes shouting for them to push out.
Yobo: as with Lescott, shame he did not put the ball in the net at the end but still a solid game.
Baines: my Man of the Match. Is he this year's Lescott? Confident, good touch, good engine, can defend and attack down the left, was our best player on the pitch by far. Made Ronaldo look ordinary which in itself takes some doing.
Overall the defence was solid and kept United at bay for most of the match this resulted in Ronaldo throwing him to the floor in desperation and receiving a deserved card for this.
Jagielka: to be honest I was disappointed with him today. He played like a younger faster Neville, they got in each-other's way at times and because of this we lacked creativity in midfield. In addition, they failed to close down players in possession allowing them to pick out passes. Neville: you get what you pay for... honest graft, nothing more; I would play him as right back where he's just that bit better than Hibbert.
Osman: tried hard, some decent touches but nothing special. Pienaar replaced him and added nothing to the team. Yes, he looked lively but running around is not enough and end product is needed. They appear to be similar in that they play in bursts. I will not criticise Moyes for starting with Osman as he did make a difference against Bolton in the last match.
Arteta: showed glimpses of what he is capable but only glimpses. One telling moment was when he was shouting at Neville after yet again not being provided the ball when in space. He ended up looking for the ball but when he did receive it he was nearly always closed down by two players.
AJ and Yakubu: is it me or do both look slightly off the pace? Especially Johnson ? he does not appear to be as quick as he was; hopefully this will come. Yakubu was provided no protection from the ref ? any barging was given as a foul against him even when the defender or in some cases defenders had their hands all over him. Too soon to comment on the partnership as this is only the second game.
McFadden: would have put him on before Pienaar to be honest. He had too little time to make an impression but did make the keeper pull out a good save.
Anichebe: tried to throw himself around but as with Yakubu any 50-50 was given as a foul to Utd.
Overall as I watched it had 0-0 written all over it as the two teams were cancelling themselves out.
Of the Team selection the only one I was surprised with at the start was Hibbert. However, if Jags or Neville had been right back Carsley would have been in midfield so even more defensive.
Other than putting McFadden on earlier, I cannot think of what else could have been done with the players available as all of them were progressive in nature the only unused outfield sub being Carsley.
A disappointing result which for me re-enforces a need for a creative central midfield player. We do have a good defence, we do have a good attack, but we do not have the link in midfield. This is needed if you are to beat teams like Utd who were themselves off the pace today but still had a near first-choice back-line that marshalled the unsupported strikers well.
Best squad in years? Well, we will see... An improvement, yes, but we still need more. Here?s to Thursday when I will watch a match that ends with a better result. COYB

In the first 3 seasons under Moyes I was one of the first to defend him and say: ’look how much he has improved the squad’. When I saw Baines do his trickery today and saw Jageilka putting himself about I honestly thought, thank god we have brought this sort of quality into the team and I applaud Moyes for that. Credit where credit is due and I seriously think that Everton FC would be on it’s knees had it not been for the appointment of David Moyes
I suppose you could say I am a Moyes apologist who has defected from the camp. If their is an archive that goes that far back I?m sure you could pluck out a response by me to Tony Marsh where I am saying something along the lines of what you are saying to me today. There is no question that David Moyes has raised the expectancy level around Everton FC and rightly so, he has spent a lot of money now and had a fair crack of the whip so why shouldn?t we be more expectant? I don’t know if you have read anything of what I have posted recently but I came out and said that I seriously wanted Moyes to become a better manager. I wanted him to become more dynamic in his team selection and start going for it because I genuinely believe he is close to having the full tools at his disposal. I came out after the Bolton game and thanked Moyes for putting out a line up and a way of playing to counter their turgidness and win the game. When Moyes brought on Gravesen it was a dynamic move and it got us all three points. I didn?t raise the point about Neville being in midfield as I felt that Moyes deserved some appaluse and a bit of slack
For me, a better manager is not just about buying the right players and moving on the duff ones at the right time, It’s a lot more than that (although fair play again to Moyes for moving on duffers quite quickly: Davies, Beattie come to mind). In the last two seasons my opinion has hardened against Moyes because it appears he lacks the tactical ability/forward thinking and progressivenes to really get the best out of the resources at his disposal and I can point to many games to back up my case.
I started this season in my usual optimistic way and thought that Moyes deserves more time to get things right and he will improve and become a better manager. I then saw the lineup against Wigan at home! Ok, we won but it was pretty dour stuff, the long ball was sill there, the tendency to sit back on a lead and invite pressure, the usual nervey last 10 minutes that is so typical of Everton. The game should have been well wrapped up before that. The Tottenham game and the win against Bolton aside I haven?t really seen any compounding evidence to suggest that Moyes is going to become a better manager and lead us to that next level. There has been no game this season that I have felt we shouldn?t and couldn?t have got three points from and that includes today. The failing for this has been in not selecting the most effective line up and putting players in their best positions. When I watched Neville in midfield, rocketing the ball upfield and Osman passing the ball to their keeper I just lost it to be honest. It just appears that it takes everyone to see when something is not working (Neville in midfield) before Moyes eventually does. Why is this? Is he stubbor?n, does he know best?, is he frightened of upsetting players, cannot he not make the difficult decisions? Does he prefer safety first?
I?m not under any illusions here: I don?t expect him to get sacked and nor want it really for that matter if I have to be honest. I just want someone to say, Davey do you want somebody to help you on the technical side, help with tactics, advice on formations, line-ups etc. We want you to become better David, we want Everton to get better, we have the scent of success but lets push on. When Bruce Rioch got the flick from Arsenal it wasn?t that was he a particularly bad manager, it was just that Arsenal wanted to move up to the next level and installed Wenger who they saw as a manager as having a few more clubs in his golf bag. The rest is history
I could go on but you get the gist. I want Everton to do well but at some point we need to start asking those uncomfortable questions

So please, comment about the players, the game, the manager, the club. But don’t label yourself or others with this positive/negative bullshit: just tell us whow you saw it. Each of us may have seen it differntly: we’re here to share that, not brow-beat everyone into some homogenized universal concensus. [Steps down off soapbox...]

For me he needs to have us playing a better style of football by the end of this year and then a good cup run and league position.
If there are no signs of this then I would want us to start looking round for someone else.
It would be nice to see more of the play shown against Spurs and less of the style played against the likes of Blackburn.
This for me is his final year regarding football. He has built the squad from relegation to european contenders.
If he gets a creative midfielder in January and shows signs of taking us to the next step, playing attractive football I would give him longer, if not I would start to look elswhere.

Some lads would walk over broken glass to play for us and I dont mean players from abroard but lads who have been in the lower leagues like Ashton who Moyes and Irvine watched for two years. I dont know any other manager who could watch a Central defender for two years sign him for £5.5 mil sell him for 2 after one game, because he cant head a ball !!!
Respect to you mate but Moyes is not good enuff for EFC,

It was a little to long it was pulled and I was asked to re submit it.
Yes it was a reply to Anthony Newalls post and he did reply to it with what I thought was a well thought oy manner that reflected much of my own feelings.
The post was titled Realist or head stuck in the sand but was changed by the team to A Balanced view. To be honest this is the rules of the site and I and others understand that when making submissions.
Regarding the comment I would not worry to much about it.
