Mexican Wonder Kid for Everton ?

Comments (26)

Just saw this article from today's Daily Mirror website:

"EVERTON boss David Moyes is trying to snatch Barcelona's Mexican starlet Efrain Juarez Valdez - the kid hailed as the next Cesc Fabregas.

The 19-year-old midfield schemer is quitting the Nou Camp after a contract dispute - and Spanish sources claim the star of Mexico's under-17 World Cup winning side was on Merseyside last week for talks about a stunning move.

Valdez has been at Barca since he was 13 and was loaned out to a lower league club last season. But he thinks he can do better by moving.

Because of a contractual technicality Valdez is allowed to go for nothing and the Toffees have stepped in first.

However, there may be a work permit problem as Valdez is yet to win his first senior cap, although Everton are trying to find a way round this - and may have to wait until the next transfer window to complete the deal."

Anybody know anything about this kid ? Is he really the next Cesc Fabregas ?

Sounds too good to be true .... (the next Cesc Fabregas, FREE transfer, etc..)

The probability is he also has a Spanish passport which will get him round the permit like Anderson Da Silva has, as he has lived in Spain since he was 13.

Unless he is out of contract he could not sign until January.
I have never heard of him either.

Says on Wikipedia that he’s a defender, not a midfielder for a start.

Before anyone gets excited- just remember that plessis was the next Vierra.

Dya really think Barca would let a 19 year old of Fabregas’ quality go on a free?

I read about him about a month or so ago. I recall the article centred around Chelsea and a few other teams who were keen to bring this "Mexican whizzkid" to England before the transfer window shut. Havent heard anything since, until now.
If he’s that good, we’ll probably have some stiff competition for his signature me thinks.

The next Cesc Fabregas just means that he’s a promising Spanish teenager. Don’t let this kind of lazy journalism fool you. Isn’t Fabregas still supposed to be the next Patrick Viera, or something or other ?

If he is any good then he will end up somewhere else.In such high regard are we held.

Juhn Teo, I think that the article you read was about Giovanni Dos Santos rather than Valdez.

We live in hope!

’Dya really think Barca would let a 19 year old of Fabregas? quality go on a free?’

I thought they did with Fabregas.

Thanks John Murphy. I must have inadvertently dismissed the possibility of having two Mexican whizzkids in one club. What are the chances? Probably about the same as having a Scottish Rooney somewhere out there in this crazy world...

After they lost Fabregas they changed their policy towards young talent and now are far more likely to get them involved in the first team squad whereas previously it was very hard for young talent to break through there. Under Laporte they have curtailed their spending in relation to previous regimes and developning youth is part of this new stratergy with players like Messi & Dos Santos as well as a young serb/spaniard call Krkic so I’d be very suprised if this guy is genuinely the new Fabregas

Hey Ajay, I’ve got a mate from Uni who’s from Mumbai and is an Everton fan, have we got a bit of following over there or is this just coincidence? What led you support the blues? Good man.

I am fed up of papers and websites describing players as Whizzkids or Aces. On the Everton telextext pages there is a phone number to ring to tell you about Everton signing an ace and it costs you £7 to listen to the message, even on Sept 1st it tells you crap like that.

I seem to recall the same paper claiming that Juan Roman Riquelme had flown into to sign for us on transfer deadline day.

Mark Stone:

Thanks to TW, I am discovering more Everton fans in India. Found one near Bangalore, too.

What led me to Everton - don’t remember? But it was related to the BBC radio Saturday commentaries I would listen many years ago. Also, a deep hatred of the Reds !

Give me your pal’s contact, please...(sorry to the other guys on the forum).

He’s still at Betis Jimmy though he hasnt even been given a squad number as far as im aware. he is reportedly sueing Betis so that could rumble on for a while. I’d forget about that one to be honest.

Thommo - Mexico won the U17 World Cup in 2005, when he would’ve been 17, so no technicalities or anything there...

As for being the star of that team/tournament - Arsenal’s Carlos Vela won the Golden Shoe & Utd’s Anderson won the Golden Ball...

Obviously, if he’s ’that’ good, I’ll be pleased to see him here, but won’t be holding my breath...

Although, we’ve already got one ex-Barcelona wonderkid on our books, so you never know!...

The information is incorrect, he has not been in Spain since he was 13, he used to play in a mexican team: Pumas until he was 17, after he won the sub17 worldcup in 2005 he made a deal with Barca. he wants to get another team because he doesnt have too many chances to play with the first team in Barcelona
