The Mail Bag
Everton's best team

Further to the response made about squad rotation, which is a perfectly valid point, it is worthwhile pointing out that all managers would have their best team in their head if not actually something they would make known, that also goes for formation.
I believe Everton and Moyes with the current players would be looking to play with wingbacks, therefore I believe on that basis we should play a back four of Neville, Yobo, Lescott and Baines; holding midfield: Jagielka; central three of Cahill, Gravesen, Arteta, with Yakubu and Johnson up front.
This gives us a solid line of defence and at least 4 players in midfield and up front who can score. Hibbert, McFadden, Pienaar, Vaughan as subs with Vaughan replacing Johnson when he is fit.
No doubt people will have their opinions on this but believe me this is how Everton will start to line up when all fit. A manager will always know his best 11.

For instance, if bullatagate stuff is not producing the goods, how long is it before a bit of subtlety is introduced.
That kind of decision making is one of the differences between good and great managers.
I place Moyes in the first category with high hopes that he will break the over cautious shackles that currently restrict his decision making.

So you would play Baines at left-back? or centre-back with Lescott out left. He is a decent right-back but you cant expect him to perform as well on the left flank? can you? No, you have made the classic Moyes gaffe of somehow squeezing captain shite into the team.
What about your midfield? There is no width at all in your selection meaning a) no crosses for strikers - they keep running the channels instead of being in the middle to score goals (i.e. AJ, YAk and Cahill), you are reliant on Neville as a wing back? Thats fucking madness we have already established he’s shite in the opponents half of the pitch, also Baines is right footed so as a wing back on the left- he would always be shown inside, now where are your crosses coming from. Also Gravesen has proved nothing yet, Cahill and Arteta I will give you respect, plus Jags has looked good so far, but whether he’s ready to replace carsley I’ll reserve judgement.
Up front AJ and Yak need time to get a parternship going but they need to be playing together in the middle, not chasing hoofs to the corner flags.
OK, now ive ripped your team selection to shite, i’ll give you a chance to come back. Here is my current team - on form - when all fullly fit:
Everton F.C. (3-5-2)
Howard
Baines Yobo(c) Lescott
Jagielka
Cahill Gravesen Arteta McFadden
Vaughan Yak
Subs: Stubbs, Carsley, Osman, Vic, AJ.
Shoot!

Marc R, what are you on about with Baines mate, he’s a left back
10 Posted 20/09/2007 at 11:38:52
a) only 3 defenders when we leak goals with 4
b) put cahill on the right side on midfield when he scores a lot of goals when he runs through the middle.
c)have McFadden as the left player when he is a striker
d)baines is a left back you clown
theres more but i cant be bothered. Next time you jump down someones throat at least fucken well have a clue on what you are on about. you just made the biggest clown of yourself.
