Wessels

I agree that it was a night of few positives but our new keeper was excellent and his fantastic early save prevented us trailing right from the start. Anybody out there think we could have come back from 0-1 ?

Wessels.......somebody mentioned that he was refreshingly adopting a habit of kicking the ball out to well-placed defenders to start 'along the ground football moves' on Saturday. The cynic in me wondered when that would change and that cynic did not have long to wait as he smashed every ball straight up the middle of the field tonight.

Oh, Mr Moyes... we looked like a team without a plan A let alone any contingency thinking for a game against 9 men. Manager and coach should have stepped in to stop Johnson taking the 're-take' but it seems that once again nobody thought about that. How much do we pay Moyes and Irvine?

I know the powers that be on this website did not like my piece called:

WE DON'T DO CUP TIES.

Guys - if you are big enough to admit you were wrong can you print that again... please !

I know that Mr Marsh seems to be roundly detested by many readers of this site but he does have the consolation of being right much more often than he is wrong.

That was my comment about Wessels. I said he must have thought that he was playing for a Champions League club. Seems Moyesy got that kind of delusional thinking out of him pretty fast.

We were an absolute shambles tonight. There was absolutely no pattern to our play. Didn’t Moyes and Irvine go and watch Metalist beforehand?

Did Moyes contract syphillis off a local Ukrainian prostitute on his trip leaving him insane? This is the only explanation I can find as to why we were such absolute garbage tonight. He obviously has no clue about how to win a game. What really gets me though is the fact that I feel as gutted as I did 2 years ago - all of the previous season’s hard work undone in 90 minutes. A summer spent hoping we would sign the right players to finally progress and start competing, only to actually realise tonight we have gone backwards.

Alan,

I think that is slightly unfair. Yes, we were atrocious this evening, but to say we haven’t progressed is a bit too much. You forget we were without the likes of Gravesen, Piennar, Cahill and Arteta and had essentially an enforced (and in my opinion very weakened) three man midfield, which was anonymous. We can and will be a lot stronger in the coming weeks.

I do agree with the comments about Wessels. So many times in recent years I have cringed whenever the ball has neared the penalty area (I’m looking at you, Mr Wright) but I am confident when Stefan has something to deal with.

Thanks lads........you’ve gone some way to cheering up a broken hearted old Blue with your comments.

Alan............congratulations on being the only Blue to suggest a clap for Moyes tonight.

Fact remains he is under contract for another 20 months or so and I suspect the only thing that could remove him before then is either a better offer from some other team (unlikely ?) or a new owner who would surely move to get rid.

Hey Steve..............is your guy Dirk Digler looking like a first choice by now since he sorted out Ben’s tactical problem ?.........good spot , Ben !

OK...........I coined the ’WE DON’T DO CUP TIES’ catch phrase but now I’ve got a new one; ’WE DON’T DO SHUT OUTS’.

Tony Marsh appreciated by a lot of us .. in your dreams. He’s entitled to his opinion like everyone else but does he have to intimidate us all with it.

Stefan Wessels is certainly a hero and I am looking forward to seeing a lot more of him between the sticks for Everton.

Patty, if you get intimidated by words on a screen, you have got a problem kid.
