Moyes' surprise

Comments (7)

So David Moyes was surprised by the quality of The Mentalists; well so was I. I sat in a quiet and subdued Goodison thinking just how poor the Ukranian league must be. Nevertheless, we comfortably managed to drag ourselves down to their level.

Repeatedly watching the back four going sideways until Hibbert gave away possession while the others played statues was awe-inspiring. The total lack of ideas from midfield was simply embarrassing. Yakubu looked completely disinterseted and Johnson... well. To see the last penalty land in the upper tier was beyond belief. Still, I was home for 1:30am after a near 300-mile round trip ? great.

Surprised by the opposition Mr Moyes? You should be shocked by the ineptitude of your own players. Mentalists were poor at best, we were worse; we got we deserved.

I still believe we can progress but a lot of people need to take along, hard look at themselves; starting at the top. If only all the players had shown young Anichebe's deisre and comittment.

One thing that Metalist do deserve a lot of credit for though - trying to play football in the right spirit. How many teams either in the Premiership or Europe would still have been looking to counterattack at 1-1 away from home, with nine men, and a minute left?

I was a bit surprised myself. Before last night, and after reading in the press about the "minnows" from the Ukraine, I half expected the same press to be reporting that half the acrylic pullover wearing Metalist team had disappeared into the back streets of Walton from where they would be attempting to apply for asylum. Wrong. THEY looked more like a footballing side than we did.

It´s ridiculous that some people were thinking this team were gonna be a walkover. They finished 3rd in the Ukrainian league. Ukraine got to the QF of the world cup. This was NOT a team from Cyprus or Luxembourg. Definately on a par with teams from say Poland or Romania, so we had to take them seriously. What is absolutely outrageous is that one of those apparently surprised was DM. Last chance David, 4th OCT. Do your homework.

I bet he was surprised at Metallist. Footballers, moving and passing to colleagues wearing the same coloured shirts? These foreigners just don’t play fair, do they?

Moyes will have been surprised cos I’ve never seen a team of his pass and move.

I hope he watched and learned.
