Anichebe to start at Villa?

Comments (5)

Let's face it, until at least two of Gravesen, Cahill and Arteta are fit our side really lacks passing ability and we will resort to the long ball. So I think Anichebe must start on Sunday at Villa because he is our only fit target man.

I disagree with the threads that discuss Anichebe and Yakubu as like for like, as target men. I don?t think the Yak (he has no aerial ability and a poor leap) is capable of being, and more importantly willing to be a target man?. and AJ and Mcfadden don?t have big enough frames or the aerial ability.

Playing a long ball game without a capable target man makes it nigh on impossible to involve the strikers in the game and gifts possession to the opposition. On Sunday I truly believe that we could get quality supply to Yakubu, McFadden or AJ using Anichebe as a foil. I would be very happy to see Anichebe on the team sheet for Villa, with either Yakubu or McFadden. I don?t think AJ?s form warrants a place.

In my eyes the 2 best and most consistent strikers we have on our books are the two free ones, James Vaughan and Victor Anichebe. Both young and hungry for success, I say play them both up front when fit and lets see them scare defenders to death with there pace, power and enthusiasm. Surely they will take their chances. They deserve a go for their hard work when they have played.

I'm astounded! Already people are having a go at the Yak?? Lazy?? I have to admit, he looks pretty useless at the mo, but I do not blame him at all. He has a stance about him that makes him look like he can't be bothered, some players do, but do we really want Yakubu running aimlessly around the park chasing everything in any area other than the final third? Do we want him to run into the channels to make up for our lack of width only to win the ball, whip it in the box where there are no blue shirts waiting to pounce? NO!

For me Yakubu isn't the type of player who's going to sweat blood for his club, but what Yakubu is, is a quality finisher and a goalscorer and That is That! While we've got Neville and Carsley in centre mid, Yakubu might as well stay at home. Just wait and see. With cahill back (please god let it be soon), Arteta and the Tommy G Yakubu will show his worth and of that I am certain. In the meantime, he's just a square peg in a round hole through no fault of his own. Please lets not ruin another quality striker Moyesy!!

What on earth was that formation all about last night. Extremely worrying if Moyesy thought that was a good idea.

I won't be able to listen or watch the match over the internet on Sunday because I'm meeting my girlfriend in the city centre.

I know the game isn't on Sky or Setanta but does anybody know a pub in town that might have it on?

I've been away at university for the last few years, so I'm not very savvy about city centre pubs; please, pardon the ignorance - and thanks in advance.

ps: We don't half need a result!

Three games in and I think we have brought a tub of lard, He just seems to lumber around the pitch like some 'cant be arsed today' He just reminds me of Heskey plays when he can be bothered. I just don't see him being an Everton Legend in fact I can see him being more of a Brett Angell.
