Moyes learning the lessons?

Lets get one thing straight: this is no knee jerk reaction. My thought is simple. I honestly think David Moyes has not got the tactical nous to take us to the next level. Thursday night was nothing short of a joke and the person to blame again was our manager, not AJ, Hibbert or Neville. He has done a fantastic job and has saved Billy's bacon many a time and in doing so taken us up a level.

It took me a while to get over the Bucharest joke, we all know you score away from home in Europe you shut up shop it's that simple, not us though ? and we all know the outcome. Thursday arrives against a poor team crowding their own half to keep the score down, so what does our manager do? Does he stretch them with a bit of width? Oh no he decides to play with a formation that meant six players in midfield and attack were jam-packed in the centre of the pitch, fucking clueless!

This resulted in both our fullbacks being exposed and in poor Hibbert's case fucking slaughtered, as his only option as he looked at the empty space ahead of him was route one to a midget up front whose confidence is shot to pieces, mainly for not turning hoofballs to the corner flags into goals.

Yes we all make mistakes and we hope he learns but this is six years now! Take a look at our cup record ? it's a joke for a club like ours... even when we have been shit we always had a cup run.

I am not for one minute saying we should sack him now, but those who run our club should be thinking about making the next step up and who should be offered this task because how long are we prepared to wait for Moyes to learn?

I just pictured that horrible goatee faced waiter on Thursday watching us, laughing his bollocks off. No matter how much I despise him, he is on another level to Moyes when it comes to tactical decisions, but this is the level we should be aiming for now; sadly our manager seems miles away from it in my opinion.

?Hey Jim, did yer see those cheating bloody Ukranians the other night?? ?What d?yer mean ?cheating??? ?Well?.didn?t yer see them passin? the ball to one another?? ?Eh?? ?Yeh..and even more, they were moving into space so they could be found with a pass!? ?Bugger me..the cheatin? bastards. D?yer think they were born like that?? ?Nah. I reckon they?ve been coached!? ?Coached?? ?Yeh. Coached. Their manager must get ?em on the training ground and show them how to do that. I think ?e?s worked out that yer don?t need £20m or £30m players to win matches. He obviously gets 'em into locked rooms and brainwashes them into believing that all yer need is to get ?em to pass to each other, move into space, control the ball, keep possession and that will bring results? ?D?yer mean that there?s another way of playing rather than pass the ball along the back four and then when it?s your turn yer just hoof it up? What a devious bastard?. ?Yeh. Cheats, Just like I said? ?Yeh?.yer wouldn?t see our Davey stooping as low as that would yer?? ?Nah ? never!?

While I was very dissapointed with David Moyes and the team on Wednesday I think it is far to early to be calling for the man's head. I am the first to admit he is tactically poor.

Why play a three man midfield consisting of Carsley, Neville and Osman? Even I know from my Football Manager days that if you are going to play a three-man midfield against 5 opposition players then you are going to need some presence or bite to block attacks. In Jagielka we have that player. Standing at 6ft tall, strong, quick, bags of energy and strong in the tackle he would have been the perfect foil for the likes of Osman and Mcfadden.

This for me is Moyes's worst attribute as a manager. He doesn't pick the best eleven, he picks the players he respects the most. If we played the likes of Gravesen, Jagielka, Pienaar, Baines, Wessels and Yakubu then we would compete at a much better level. I'm not saying the football would be a lot better but it would definatly improve. The better player you have on the pitch the better you are going to be.

Players like Stubbs, Neville and Carsley are probably very respected in the dressing room but the fact of the matter is they don't have the talent to be in our first eleven. They are squad players, nothing more. Why can he not see that Neville is a right back? He has played there for the majority of his career and don't anyone tell you different. He is actually our best right back. He is a good crosser, got five assists from last season and our backline had the best defensive record outside the top four. I think if he moved to right back and let more talented players fill in midfield then we would improve dramatically. If anything our young back four needs a leader to keep them on there toes.

Moyes has done a good job in his five years. Not brilliant but good, and hopefully he will keep us improving. The one thing we are now is stabilised. We actually have expectations that we didn't have a few years ago. Would we rather be like Newcastle? Continually chopping and changing instead of getting a manager and giving him time to work with his team.

If you look at the best mangers they have all had time. Alex Ferguson at Utd, Wenger at Arsenal, Allardyce at Bolton and Copell at Reading all have had successes in their own right because they have been given time. I dont expect Moyes to win us league titles at this moment of time but I am realistic.

I was dissapointed with everyone reactions on thursday as I think we are beginning to become over optimistic. There are alot of teams close or around our ability who we are battling with and anything can happen. At this moment in time we have played 7 games. We have beaten Wigan, Spurs and Bolton, drawn against Blackburn and Metalist and lost against Man utd and Reading.

I would rather judge Moyes when the time is right. When we have at least played 15-20 games and I know where our season is going. I believe if Moyes has bottle and picks the more talented players over favourites then we could have a good season but only time will tell.

Spot on Paul.Moyes is okay when we need to get stuck in,and grind results out, because his defensive mentality works okay for them type of games. But,when it comes to having to actually play a bit of football, tactically, the man is a joke.My little 8yr old lad plays football. And the first thing the manager does in training, is to have them passing the ball to feet.He played this morning, and his team won 6-1,and do you know what? They passed the ball around more in 1 game, than we have done all season. If 8yr old kids can do it,why can’t we?

This is my team for Vill. I'd love for us to go there with an attacking team pending on injuries. wessels jagielka yobo lescott baines arteta gravesen carsley pienaar johnson yakubu But we all know he won't drop Neville he's become undroppable in Moyes eyes and it's not on, he adds nothing to the team.

I don’t like talking about the RS but Benitez is only tactically good in Europe, in the prem he chops and changes his best players and the result is drawing with Birmingham at Anfield.

Though I’m by no means saying Moyes is tactically good either, he only comes good when its backs to the wall football.

Connor.
If you are admitting he is tactically poor.
Then you are amitting he is no good at his job, which is to organise the team and tell them to play in a certain fashion. Then change things when they are not going well.
This is whats known as tactics.

Conor, you say that Evertonians are over optimistic. For fuck sake mate even Tranmere fans would expect to beat a team of potato eaters (Metalist).

See AJ has apologised for his penalty misses. But not a word from Moyes, maybe he thinks his tactics are beyond reproach.

AJ to my mind has nothing to apologise for. He runs his bollocks off in positions alien to his style of play and never lets his head drop whilst doing so. Moyes, on the other hand...???

Talking of Cup runs under Moyes, Am I glad Sheff Wed got thier first points of the season yesterday, because with us visiting
Hillsborough, on wed, I am fairing
the worst, and if it goes to penalties, WELL.
But like a glutton, I am still going, can’t get enough.
