Moyes or a change?

Comments (15)

It look's like people are out for hunting DM's head. Well if so, it's been very frustrating to see Everton playing that way since about 92-.93-, or so.

I haven't heard anyone say David Moyes hasn't been good servant to this club in terms of stabilizing and moving the club forward. Well, problem is unfortunately it seems that he can't get our team to play to its full potential. I don't agree that Aston Villa have a better group of players than ours. Also I don't agree that our squad players can't play the passing game, if they can't, they are in wrong squad. I believe it's more about coaching and making a decent gameplan. For that, people are looking at the manager and his coaching staff.

If it's time to say "Goodbye, Mr Moyes," it's extremely important to find the right manager for our situation, when we have a decent team, maybe some money to utilise and so on. We need a manager who can take us to the next level. So, who could be the right man in job???

  • Mark Hughes, Blackburn R, Personnally I admire Sparky a lot, but there's a danger that he is too much of a lookalike to Moyes. Has Sparky the tacticial knowledge that's needed?
  • Alan Irvine, no way!
  • Jose Mourinho, very interesting name, but I'm afraid of his playing style, there's not mutch difference from DM; even in the Champions League it looks that you can go few steps further with that style.
  • Sevilla coach, in your dreams...
  • Joe Royle, last time at Goodison was similarities todays circumstances, his job was unfinished last time
  • Gary Speed. A joker. I've no idea what went wrong at Goodison, but seems that he could be good manager in the future; now, he has no experience
  • Adrian Boothroyd, has done a brilliant job in Watford, what about leading a giant like Everton?
  • Roy Hodgson, Finland manager, good reputation, too cautious??
  • ?????????
So are there relly any better options? I'dont know but something must change.

Ha ! You clown. Yes lets sack Moyes and replace him with Mourinho....! This website has truly been taken over by madmen. It is the ONLY place you will hear talk of replacing Moyes, let alone see idiots drawing up a list of replacements. Not one journalist, pundit or player has even considered the ridiculous idea that he should be sacked. I only come on here for a laugh these days, whereas I used to have it as my homepage. there are far more realistic, balanced views on any other Everton website and I’m not the only one who is jumping ship.

Phil, you might change your mind if we have yet more poor performances over the next 3 games, although I suppose if we play crap football as usual and actually get some wins from set pieces or mistakes from opposing teams or one good break away then everything will be allright again and we can continue as we have been for the last few years.

That might be god enough for you but it isn’t for me. Glen Hoddle could get this excellent group of players to play good attacking football, Moyes can’t. Guess what, we’d win more games as well and actually deserve to win them!

Actually, one other point, the so called great performances we have seen from Everton over the last few years, namely Tottenham Away twice and Villa Away, I can only actually remember Everton playing genuinely great football and deserving to win in the Villa away game. I was at the first Tottenham away game and although we played well (With 10 men) Tottenham had the ball 80% of the time and just couldn’t score. In the match this season at Tottenham I thought Tottenham were VERY VERY unlucky to be 2 goals down at half time, they had created by far the more and better chances but we took ours on that day, including a deflected free kick, they also hit the bar a couple of times.

But hey ho, it’s the score that matters isn’t it, if we win we MUST have played well. Sorry, but there is more to football that the result. If there wasn’t we’d all sit at home waiting for the scores to come up and that would be that.

Give me Hoddle!

’No manager worth his salt will take a job where he has no money to put his own mark on the team’

I disagree with this Dave. I think a great deal of managers would look at our team and relish the chance of working with our star players. We’ve all seen glimpses of what this squad could become. A manager worth his salt would see that he already has the making of a great team and should be able to put his mark on the team anyway.

Like Phil said the only people who are taling about replacing moyes are people in chat rooms - nobody within the game would even question his position at the club, he is generally considered to be one of the best managers in the PL outside the top four(and i’d take him over Avram Grant). The only realistic candidate for me is Sparky Hughes but would he be an improvement on Moyes?

Sorry Robbie, but this is all just fluffy fairy talk (for want of a better phrase!). You are all just plucking names from mid air with no basis in reality. Glen Hoddle ? The reality is that he has never finished in the top 6 as a manager and was last seen finishing mid table in the championship at Wolves. Luis Van Gaal ? How the blazes do we get him to come here when he could basically pick whoever he wants. Jose Mourinho ? Likewise. Adrian Boothroyd ? Have you SEEN watford play ?!! Its all just fluff and nonsense and although on this site you are in a majority due to the editors pathetic agenda, in the real world you are surely in the minority. You have even found fault with the recent Spurs performance (where we could have won 4 or 5-1) ! To counter your argument, there is more to football than playing pretty triangles. Yes the football is poor right now but before Arteta and Gravesen’s injuries there was the hint of improvement. Lets give it the chance to continue.

PANIC "throw the baby out with the bath water"
Moyes is clueless WHAT?
Better managers knocking on our door WHERE?
Over the last 5 years we HAVE grown and developed, there have been mistakes e.g. Neville as captain Neville in centre mid, Neville coming here, Hibbert etc and the style of play at times but no other manager would of or have brought us this far post Kendal. If the question is can Moyes take us to the next level then he must of brought us from lower levels. I am not an out and out Moyes fan he frustrates me but it is short term frustration, I am pleased overall and have been for the previous 5 years at the end of each season. I think most Evertonians have been satisfied overall.

Phil, I appreciate your comments. I’ll be honest, I don’t know everything (But don’t tell my wife and kids that) and you could well be right that when Gravesen and Arteta are back and Tim then things will improve. In fact, I am in no doubt that it will improve as it can’t get much worse! Having said all that I have been very patient with Moyes and whilst I have seen little improvements each year I have continued to support him, although I don’t particularly like his brand of football, team selections, substitutions and tactics.

I have said on other posts that Moyes could get lucky and it all click into position when Gravesen is fit (Just please god Moyes picks him) and Arteta is back, with Neville at right back, however I have not seen anything from Moyes in 5 years to fill me with confidence that this will happen. I am a died in the wool blue (As we all are) but I try to keep a healthy perspective on the football I watch and try not to see everything through blue tinted glasses, if you think we should have beated spurs 4 or 5-1 then you surely must add 3 or 4 goals on for Spurs that were as good as or better than our chances! I seem to recall they hit the post a couple of times.

I would also like to make one final observation, James Beattie went from being one of the most regular scoring strikers in the EPL to 2 a season under Moyes, AJ from 20 goals a season to not scoring at all this season (And he hasn’t had any chances except 2 pens) and now the Yak looks like he couldn’t score in a brothel after a few outings using the Moyes way after being the 2nd highest EPL scorer over the last 5 years with the giants that are Portsmouth and Middlesborough. Is there a pattern here do you think? Could it perhaps be due to the way we play football?

As I said before, I don’t know everything, but I do know that the football I’ve been watching over the last 5 years won’t get us winning anything! Ever!

I’m with you Dave. Sod it, lets just sack Moyes and bring in Jurgen Klinsmann. Or Pele, he’d be able to get the lads playing good football. Maradona. Matt Busby. Whats God up to these days ? With our fanbase I’m sure he’d be happy to pop down.

Robbie, those are fair, balanced points you make. You hope/expect things to improve when Arteta and Gravesen are fit, and you point out how bad Beattie was (before we even signed him he was tosh to be fair) and how Johnson is struggling. There is an issue here with the style of play that I’m hoping is being worked on at bellefield. Its just the Fantasy Football stuff about sacking Moyes and bringing in x,y and z that I disagree with.

Hoddle is an excellent choics to replace the hapless Moyes. Okay, Hoddle might have some ’quirky’ metaphysical thoughts (all of which are groundless), but the man understands the way that football ought to be played. I’m sure he’d jump at the chance to get back into the big league as well. Let’s face it, Moyes is a championship manager, and would probably flourish if he should return there.

I may get well shot down for this.

But on the hypothetical if Moyes left tomorrow situation who would I want to see come in.

The answer for me would be Roy Keane. He got an attitude that is spot on, he has worked wonders in a short time with Sunderland, and he is a winner through and through.

For me he is the one guy I would want.
