The Mail Bag
A view from the Brum

As an Aston Villa fan I am suprised by how negative you scousers are. You have a good team. Obviously you are mising a few key players like Arteta, Cahill and Vaughan but if we where missing Young, Carew and Barry it would be exactly the same.
Us Brummies could see you had injury prolems but if we were in the same situation we wouldn't be able to put out a team like you did yesterday. I think our starting line-ups are similar but you have more strength in depth than us.
This was my view on the game: You started off the brighter with Johnson looking lively but our goal killed you. I have got to be honest I have been waiting for Big John Carew to put a performance like that in since last season. He dominated two very good, strong, quick centre-halfs in Yobo and Lescott. Hopefully you can get the same from Yakubu who on his day can also be unplayable.
Leighton Baines looked a good steady player who I have always rated. Kept Gabby in his pocket for most of the game despite having an disadvantage in terms of pace. I also liked the look of Steven Pienaar who gradually improved as the game went on. He looked a little lightweight at times against Bouma but looks very skillful and technical footballer. Another good signing once he settles in if you ask me.
All in all it was a dull game where both the Villains and the Toffees created nothing. Yakubu looked your best striker when he came on but I am told to believe he was dropped because of his poor workrate which I can understand. Just another question why is Phil "Lurch" Neville in your starting line up? The sooner you get him out the better. Barry controlled the game and Neville couldn't get near him. Jagielka did alright and to be honest I was wishing we could have signed him as he would have filled our right-back role instead of Mellberg.
Anyway, dont get disheartened Evertonians you have a good team and once you get your key players back I can see you finsihing in the top 8 easily.

Emabarrassing and depressing. I’m through with this website and to be honest I’m now able to see why we’ve been labelled ’Bitter Blues’ by some. People like you and Marsh need to get a life....before you go pop from a coronary or something.

Where do you expect us to finish? Top 8 usually means 5th-8th which would be good for us in my opinion. Whilst I would like to see us in the top four or winning the league you have to be realistic.
I agree the football hasnt been brilliant but we where missing 5 or 6 key players. The better players you have on the pitch the better you play as far as im concerened. As John Woods said if you they lost Barry, Young and Carew it would be exactly the same for them.
He pointed out alot of points from the game and was giving his opinion from a different angle.
Maybe you should give Colm or Lyndon a go at posting as they actually talk sense.

I love this website and log on everyday, but comments like Michaels response lead me to loathe Toffeeweb. This is my first port of call for all things Everton related but with comments like Michaels I can’t help feel that those who run and monitor this website are blinkered and can’t even accept what was effectively a genuine "chin up" message with grace but rather crassness.

Moyes is rightfully coming under pressure for his incompetence, the Everton PR machine spins into life with their usual bogus postings.

I actually did leave before the final wistle something I dont do often which tells everyone how bad we where. Moyes can make excuses but we played awful.
I am not to downhearted though. Once we get some key players back then I will se what level we are at. Hopefully we have improved on last season and can kick on but only time will tell.

Karl Masters, a thank you to you as well for expressing what most sane football supporters think.

1. Yes, everyone is entitled to their views, and in opinions, it comes with a fair bit of emotive responses.
2. Can Michael Kenrick explain why he chides others for supposedly strong views e.g. Tony Marsh but in turns gives strong responses to others? In fact, I do recall in his entries before about not making it vindictive etc etc.
3. Ultimately, what does it mean to have a freedom of expression in this kind of "mailbags"? I would think that hey, we can be entitled to our views, but we can be honest without being brutal. And in this case, the editor of this website seems to preach these rules, and sees himself as an exception.
4. Don’t get me wrong, I visit this everyday (few times a day @ least) cos I think all things considered, it’s a fantastic independent fansite. I will continue to do so.
5. I like what ToffeeBlue says, the game is a world game. People see them too, are entitled to their opinions, and sometimes as outsiders see things more clearly than fans, who are partisan and sometimes too "partisan" to see things in perspective.
6. I agree with Michael Kenrick that @ the core, Everton Supporters are about Nil Satis, Nisi Optimum. I admit that I’m growing concerned about Moyes’ ability to take us to the next step.
I would like Everton to win the league sometime soon as well, and won’t want to settle for just "top 8".
7. All things considered, let Moyes have his fair stab at playing "proper" football with his full squad. If it still hasn’t happened by then, then the criticism is justifiable.
8. One question has always been - how would any manager play it differently (more attractive, more attacking) if they have the same squad of players? If they would have, then fair game. Moyes is not good for us. But if these players had previously thrived in a much more attractive set up, then I think we can seriously question the suitability of Moyes as the one to take us forward.
