?He has my word...?

Comments (3)

Those Evertonians calling for David Moyes's head are in for a long wait. I have met Chairman Kenwright only once. I was introduced to him after a game at Villa Park two seasons ago when we had just lost our second game in a row 0-4. Much to the embarrassment of our host ? a close friend of Blue Bill ? I asked how such a bad trot affected the position of his manager. Bill swallowed hard on his egg savory and told me, "I have the highest regard for David Moyes both as a man and as a manager.

"No one in the game works harder. He's unbelievable. He and I are as close as that [as he intertwined his fingers]. We share a dream for Everton, you see. He has my word that regardless of results he will remain our manager as long as I am Chairman."

Our host, whose loyalty to managers was not quite in the same league, smiled ruefully! I think I reported this conversation to you at the time but in the light of recent correspondence, felt it worth revisiting.

I can see him now, effusing effusively over the chardonnay. Thanks for that one, David. I'm sure you're right: those barking for are barking up the wrong tree... or just plain barking! Seems such knowledge won't be enough to stop them calling for the impossible, though.

As much as I don’t doubt the contents of this post in the least I have to ask one question of everyone who ever alleges to have had a conversation with anyone from inside the hallowed walls of Goodison Park.

What makes you think anything other than the standard spin would ever be leaked to some random over a conversation?

Okay, another question then.

Would you leak extremely sensitive information about your company to someone you neither know nor trust simply because they asked you about it?

As I said, I don’t doubt how genuine this post is and, to be honest, I also think what was said two years ago probably still stands for the moment - at least as long as the fans’ level of unrest remains tolerable for BK - but it was two years ago and many people think Moyes may be going stale. Not me though . . . not yet!

I?m sorry David I was in the same restaurant that night and whilst you reported most of what Bill said you did miss out a few pertinent points. I can only assume your memory was clouded by that fifth bottle of chardonnay. I have filled in the gaps in quotation marks

No one in the game works harder ?at stifling a team?s natural attacking flair? He?s unbelievable, ? I mean, FFS, some of his tactical decisions and his substitutions or lack thereof ?

He and I are that close (as he intertwined his fingers). "As I recall it, he spread two of his fingers widely apart; the opposite to the victory salute, if you catch my drift".

We share a dream for Everton ?and mine is that Tony Marsh finds out where Davy boy lives and goes round and pays him a visit? He has my word ?and you know what the word of a football chairman is worth?

" We share a dream ", it says it all about the lovey, what a shame that Bill and Daves dream is turning into a nightmare for some of us.
