Time to experiment

Comments (11)

The upcoming Carling Cup-tie gives Moyes the ideal opportunity to try something a little different. I`d like to see him experiment with the use of Baines in left midfield as well as give a start to the Faddy and Yak partnership up front. My line-up would be:- Wessels;
Jagielka, Stubbs, Lescott, Valente;
Pienaar, Carsley, Osman, Baines;
McFadden, Yakubu. Not the strongest possible Everton side but one that might, just might answer a couple of problems.

Starting XI vs Sheffield Wednesday? Here's the team I'd like to see Moyes put out:

GK: Wessels
D: Neville, Stubbs, Jagielka, Valente
M: Pienaar, Anderson, Osman, VdM
F: McFadden, Anichebe

I think this would be an interesting team, capable of playing more with the wings. In particular I like VdM on the left wing, he deserves another go especially after all the shit we've seen recently, Valente at left back (I missed him), Neville at right back (WHERE HE BELONGS!), and I'd like to see Jags in central defense with Stubbs, who will probably be playing this weekend as Yobo is injured.

Can’t see Wessels playing with Howard still being injured.

Surely that’s a contradiction Ray?

With what seems available to us i’d see
GK: Wessels
D: Neville, Stubbs, Lescott, Baines
M: Ossie, Jagz, Carsley, Valente
F: AJ, Faddy

Got to be a good chance for AJ to break his duck. Valente is left-sided and puts a good cross in so let’s play him left midfield. Faddy deserves a start in a central role. The Yak on from the bench.

Personally I think there is a lot to be said for keeping the side the same. Get the boys to dominate the game with loads of possession and bag some goals. More importantly get some much needed confidence back into the midfield and forwards.

I think its a great opportunity for AJ to get a goal, its against poor opposition and we can always sub him if he looking shit again.

Mark, I should explain. With Howard being injured, it’s unlikely that Moyes would risk Wessels getting injured in a Carling Cup game. I think Turner or Ruddy might play.

Hang on, that’s common sense. Are our leaders blessed with that?

Steve, there is plenty of width in that Midfield you selected. I suppose you’ll want Hibbo or Neville to bomb on and whip in the crosses

I like Jimmy’s team - it is bold and ambitious. Sends out a message to the players that you will get your chance in the season. Only problem is I notice that Anderson is back on loan with Burnsley (surprising, considering our lack of options in midfield currently).
I would also probably have Carsley instead of Osman to bring in some steel into the midfield.

The bench would be: Turner, Osman, Lescott, Johnson, Baines.

When will people STOP trying to make Baines a left sided midfield player...he a FULL BACK. Whilst we’re on the subject, did any of you see Valente play in that position in pre-season?...If you had you wouldn’t be advocating these ridiculous ideas.As for Da Silva if he was good enough to change the teams current form surely he wouldn’t have been allowed to BARNSLEY, yes BARNSLEY (not Real Madrid), on loan.
Instead of playing people out of position why not play to their strengths, play to feet, get the ball wide & get behind teams. I’m sure this will see a massive improvement in both team performance and chances created/goals scored.
I believe this is a very important game and thus we should play our strongest available side...My team would be :-

Wessels
Neville
Lescott
Yobo(Stubbs)
Baines
Pienaar
Jags
Carsley
Osman
Johnson
Yakubu

Subs
Ruddy
Victor
VDM
McFadden
Valente

Someone got shot down on here a couple of weeks ago for suggesting that Baines could do a job for us on the left of midfield. He was told that Baines is a left back and a bloody good one so why try and move him elsewhere. In some ways I agree but surely the point of a ?squad? is that it can deal with a variety of situations in the event of injuries?

With four of our most creative and influential players out (Timmy, Tommy, Arteta, Vaughan), surely this is one of those situations???

From what I?ve seen of him, Baines appears to be the only player at the moment who is comfortable enough to have the ball at his feet and attempt to do anything with it. I think I?d rather he did that up the field.

Stubbs can come in and will cement the back four again, Lescott moves to left back, Neville to right back and hopefully we get a clean sheet and everything will suddenly look a lot rosier.
