Is there hope for VdM?

Comments (7)

According to one of the daily papers: "Everton have lifted the club suspension on Andy van der Meyde to give him one final chance to prove himself in Wednesday's Carling Cup tie at Sheffield Wednesday"

This offers a glimmer of hope surely? An acceptance in the corridors of power that our ugly hoofball,6-2-2 formation cannot cut it and we may have to (shock, horror) play football? Or maybe VDM has been working hard on specialist hoofball training all summer at the request of David Moyes's "Everton Way".

It'd be nice to dream of a midfield of AvdM, Arteta, Gravesen and Carsley though wouldn't it....

Hopefully this means that his daughter is better, although Irvine was pretty much saying that he'd been left out of the squad (and possibly training?) as punishment. This could be just the game to get AVdM firing - I know we've said that on a fair few occasions since he joined, but here's hoping anyway!

This guy seems to have more lives than a cat!! Will we really see the AdvM from Ajax and Inter? I hope so, but this has to be his final chance. Is anyone else up for giving him another break??

If we’re dreaming of midfields, can I have the following please?

Zidane, Hidekuti, Beckenbauer, Socrates

Thanks

What does this say about his circumstances? The consensus on here seems to be that he was given compassionate leave due to his ill daughter, but EFC's statement suggests he was purely suspended for skipping training. What's the truth? Possibly a little of both. Either way, get him playing and see if he can produce. How many other Premier League club have an out-and-out winger with 18 caps for Holland who's played for Ajax and Inter rotting in their reserves? Not many.

As for the Wally's Cup tonight - we're never going to compete on four fronts this season. Therefore, send out the VDM plus the kids - Ruddy, Boyle, Vidarsson, Kissock, Rodwell, anyone. We'll never know if they're good enough unless they play at a senior level. Look at Arsenal and Man Utd's League Cup line-ups over the last few years.

Obviously the younger players may not be ready, but we do have a history of dropping in youngsters and them thriving (Ball, Jeffers, Rooney etc). Why not?

I know this will sound horribly pessimistic but don't you get the feeling that horrible little fucker Franny Jeffers will score the winner tonight? I would be even more certain of him scoring if he hadn't broke his duck at the weekend.

Whenever I hear the phrase "hasn't scored since last season/coming back from injury/1908" I just know the player will net against us. (See John Carew).

Perfect game for him to make a comeback, not to mention an impact. Let's hope he can do it this time, with some backing from us, eh?

Am absolutely delighted to see Andy Van ready to go tonite. I hope this means his daughter is on the mend too. Sentimental reasons aside, Andy Van playing could be vitally important in terms of opening up the Owls- make no mistakes, tonite’s opponents will be physical and hard to break down. The game will need a creative talent like Andy to unlock Wednesday. I love David Moyes but I get so frustrated with his management of AvdM sometimes. At the turn of the year Andy looked like he was gradually becoming his former self again before DM sidelined him yet again. Training incident aside, I dont know why we dont play Mikel and Andy on either flank each game.
Come on AvdM- I know you can do the business tonite.

Ps Our boys to beat the Owls 0-2
