The France Collection

Comments (9)

I have just read David Prentice who has said that the David France Collection has been saved for the club. I would like to express my thanks and admiration for those who have gone that extra yard to make sure that this will happen. While I hold out no real optimism for the Kirkby move, this still makes me think that there is a real future for a club which recognises it's pivotal role in football in Britain and the world and is steadily improving over the last five years (not without set backs. admittedly). Congratulations to all concerned.

I too would like to express thanks to all the hard work of many people (too many to mention) in securing this collection for our city.

I’m made up too with the news parts of it (from time to time) will be housed at our new stadiums museum.

The new stadium is not having a museum according to wymess and by the way hats off to them in securing funding they should not of needed a begging bowl the club should of funded every penny not the little dropsy they gave.

Paul Gladwell - Wrong! Our new stadium will have a museum, Wyness was referring to the here and now regarding a new museum - just not worth it with the impending move, plus shareholder and trustee of the collection Tony Tighe is certainly expecting a museum - hence his quote on the clubs official website.

Anyway great news it’s been secured - we must not lose sight of how important this collection is to our region, there really was a danger this could’ve ended up down south.

GM: Wrong again, Wyness quote:
"Getting into the museum business is something we donâ??t want to do. As I have said to you before, I was involved with the SFA and establishment of their football museum. After it opened to great expectation it became a huge white elephant. You never make money out of this kind of venture. The way we are doing it is the right way in the light of that experience. It also keeps it fresh by giving people the chance to see it bit by bit."

How many more things are you going to make up?

Tom - do you really think someone like shareholder and trustee of the collection Tony Tighe is so uninformed to make quotes like he did and for them to be happily quoted on the clubs official site if he was wrong - of course not! Our new stadium WILL have a museum and i’ve a feeling the reference to the new stadiums museum will not be removed from the clubs official site because it’s true.

Once again Wyness was making a general point about football museum and with our old stadium in mind - but are new ground will have a museum.

The collection as far as i’m aware is going to be housed in Liverpool city centre. Isn’t it ?
History of our club in OUR city.
Actual club outside the city.
PS. Please don’t turn this into a ground debate again.

Dave - I agree this shouldn’t be another ground move issue, just mentioned the fact in one measly line that Tony Tighe (shareholder and trustee of the Everton collection) - who has been working with Wyness in securing this collection mentioned that parts of it from time to time will be housed at our clubs new museum.

Then Tom etc get wound up by it and make an issue out of it. Really...[rolleyes]

(Repating a comment I made elsewhere) Before people rush to scoff at E.F.C. not stumping-up all the money for this themselves, Lottery funding being necessary to complete the purchase, let?s not forget two things ...

1. This was a worthwhile thing for the Lottery Heritage Fund to spend all our money on. It?s a massively important heirloom for ALL football fans, and footie is our NATIONAL game after all, and

2. If Manyoo plc, one of the world?s richest clubs, can take £30k from the lottery, as they did a couple of years ago to fund a keep fit scheme for its (non-playing) staff, then why can?t E.F.C. "have some" too?

Let?s not cavil, let?s just celebrate!

In an interview on Radio Merseyside, Wymess was asked would the new stadium have a museum and the answer was as quoted by Tom.
This is fact thousands heard it but allegedly it WILL have one now!!
