Unrest in the camp?

Comments (20)

It's been alleged that there seems to be a bit of a rift between the players and Moyes. This suggestion was slapped down by quite a few people as bullshit. But reading Beattie's interview, it does make you think... Especially where he says, "There was a certain amount of displeasure with the lad ,at the way the gaffer was treating me." Could it be that the whispers of a rift might be true?

Beattie blame himself for his poor non stop performances for the Blues, never!!!
Blame the manager, forget how many chances you have been given, forget that even 2 teenagers went ahead of you in the pecking order.
Moyes gave him plenty of chances he failed to take them.
Now in the Championship against players are a far more inferior standard he has scored a few big deal, Brett Angell was a prolific scorer in that league.
He even said he hit the bar for England, if it had of gone in who knows what would of happened, he might of gone on a great run of scoring for England.
At the end of the day he signed for a Championship club because they offered more money than a Premier League club did because no one wanted him.
There was no rift, Beattie was a bad buy he failed to deliver and now he is trying to blame others. It was he who put in those week in week out lousy performances not the manager.

David Moyes time after time after time gave Beattie the run in the side that his ability and form did not warrent. Glaring miss after glaring miss infuriated Everton fans though at least he did try so we were always in hope.
Moyes placed only him down the pecking order to 5th last Spring. He seems delusional that he should be treated better (i.e playing) when Everton are challenging for Europe in the best league(?) in the world, even more delusional that he believes an England call up is what his ability deserves.
Beats scored 60+ goals in a 4 year spell for Southampton, all other seasons in his career total no more than 30 goals.

What a pompous shit. Beattie was given every chance to succeed, but he continually failed. His attitude in that interview tells me why Moyes got rid. Beattie felt as though he was entitled, and if I was Moyes I would have shipped him out as well, but a season before this. You went from being top scorere to Mr. Nobody because you failed to score goals Beattie, you skied them over the bar from 2 yards out, that’s why you were replaced.

Beattie deserves to be where he is at present 6th from bottom of the championship and a close neighbour of that other reject who?s fault it could never be; Jeffers, sitting snugly at the wrong end of the championship and struggling to get into the first team
As others have said Moyes gave him more chances than he deserved.

I’m glad everyone’s responded to this article with the contempt it deserves. To claim he was dropped for no good reason and wanted one more chance to prove himself ignores 2 and a half years of under-performing and a season where he had plenty of chances but failed to register a single goal. To claim he behaved well is ludicrous, he might not have thrown his toys out of his pram but he was often over-weight and looking short on fitness. To suggest Moyes wouldn’t have picked him up for a match is a farcical dig. What does he expect? Moyes to chaffeur him around Liverpool to bank his £30,000+ a week

There was also the comment about going from top scorer to 5th choice. That fails to note, of course, that we only scored 34 in the entire season and he took most of our penalties. He then got overtaken by hungry and dynamic youngsters last year, which only made his tired performances look worse.

Moyes gave him plenty of chances but his best decision was recouping £4m when the chance came along. That we barely even notice he’s gone shows it was the right choice.

could not score against peterborough or bournemouth last season, victor made you look average when you played together,
enough chances beats,
sorting the lads piss ups was not enough to save your job,
strikers are bought for their goals and assists
moyes played the strikers who were best on form or the fittest
available, you dropped yourself with your below par performances

Moyes was patience personified, More chances than pretty well any forward to wear the shirt. Nuff said.

It would appear that I may be a lone voice on this particular thread that understands what Beattie has to say.
It does seem that if you upset Moyes then you are cast aside. Beattie clearly upset Moyes. However I think that James Beattie actually only started a few games last season including the away game at Man Utd.
My only concern is that there seems to be a trait whereby free scoring strikers are suddenly rendered goalless by the way we play.
AJ has not scored since last March and Yakubu is already being accused of laziness etc.

I have to back you up here John (Andrews)....even whilst BT was here i could never help thinking that with some decent service coming in from the flanks he would have been a different player, this seems to be repeating itslef with AJ and will repeat itself with the Yak (case in point being the Sheff Wed game - as soon as Neville comes on at right back and starts putting some balls in from the wing we start scoring) there are very few strikers in the world who will score freely with the kind of service they get from DM.

There is the possibility though that if everyone takes off their bias Davie Moyes glasses off the facts are blatantly true what Beattie comes up with..He finished the clubs top scorer in 2005/06 with 11 goals yet after AJ signed Moyes seemed intent on replacing Beattie in a 4-5-1 with Johnson who of course was by far more suited to that role..Beattie has a point in saying Everton never gave him the right service he deserved..I just wonder whether we will be having the same argument in twelve months time over Yakubu..Its obvious we are not going to play with wingers and that results in a lack of service..Moyes would do well to listen to Leighton Baines words..It takes a player who has only just come here to state the glaringly obvious. The service to the strikers is basically shite and has been for as long as Moyes has been here..I agree Beattie looked dreadful in the last few months at Everton but at that stage his confidence was rock bottom. Im not surprised he has been sold but its just another case of David Moyes turning Everton into just a hard working side rather than a side that actually must learn to score goals and entertain aswell. All we ever hear is hard work, you would think he was the manager of a construction site or something..For Gods sake football is a game and we want entertainment aswell after the money we put in to watch the team we deserve it.I am sick of Moyes attitude of just always being a hard working unit..I want Everton to score goals..When is the last time we scored more than four goals in a match?. I bet its never been done under Moyes. When is the last time an Everton striker scored a hat-trick? Under Moyes I doubt it also as our strikers are too busy chasing lost causes into the corner flags. After the money Everton have splashed we should be entitled to some thrills and entertainment.

Sorry but those defending Beattie are blinkered by their dislike for Moyes’ approach. It may not breed the best goal-scoring chances but 2 penalties from 15 starts and 18 sub appearences is a poor record in anyone’s book. He was outscored in open play by all four of the other strikers at the club and whatever you think of the service to him, Everton finished 6th and little of that achievement can be attributed to Beattie’s ’contribution’ to the team. During his time at the club we saw little of the clinical finishing people claim he has (being able to score in the Championship is not a sign of Premiership class... just ask Nugent) and if he thinks he was hard done by then he’s living in a fantasy world. Let’s not forget that even in his ’good’ season in 2005/6, many of the fans were on his back.

I’m not going to defend what BT has said. It sounds like he’s got a real chip on his shoulder but I do think that hidden between the lines is the messsage we have all been trying to give to Moyes - give the strikers some servoce and they will score goals. Now Baines has come out and said it and everyone is nodding their heads in agreement. Let’s hope DM gets the message - finally!
Towards the end of his less than illustrious career with the Blues, BT had no confidence to do anything other than jump aimlessly at the high balls that were raining his way. His timimg was awful and he couldnt shoot for toffee. His one headed assist that I can remember was the flick back for Naysmith to score last game of the season and prior to that, chasing a seemingly lost ball to the touchline to cross for (can’t remember) to score.
I just hope, like someone said earlier, that we won’t be having this debate about Yak or AJ in a few months time.

If Beattie was a bad buy at £6M, then Yakubu is a diaster for twice the price!Fact is,Moyes is clueless about anything other than defence. In true lower league fashion,he thinks midfielders are immaterial and strikers can ’magic’ goals from nothing. He always goes for ’the flavour of the month’ and has no conception of how he is going to fit them into his team.He ruined Beattie and will do the same for Johnson and Yakubu.Rooney did right to get away before he saw him off as well!

Ray (the other Ray) Steve Watson scored a hat-trick against West Ham in Sept 03. Before that I know Duncan got one against Bolton in the late 90?s. Macfadden got three in the kick-in one day last season...

There are always two sides to every coin.

Beattie was scoring well before he joined Everton and then it all dried up. AJ was scoring before he joined Everton and it all seems to have stopped. Yakubu - time will tell but he’s not scored much so far.

...but they ALL kept scoring when they first joined Everton. Beattie put a few in, AJ has a reasonable number of goals and even Yakubu scored on his debut so I can’t see it specifically being about the service.

In his last season Beattie didn’t score and couldn’t score. Simple as. He had the ball, he had the back of the net and all he had to do was push the ball into it, but no. it went over, left, right or wherever.

I like Moyes as a manager - he’s done a great job but wingers are needed to provide for the strikers.

However, if the striker has the ball and it is next to impossible to miss - he should score. Beattie didn’t.

I am very concerned that AJ has stopped scoring and also concerned that Yakubu has minimal goals to his name - that’s got to say something. Is it the training? Is it the vitamines? Or is it the players themselves? Whatever it is, something isn’t right.

Firstly (Mr Holmes) I am a big fan of Moyesy on the whole so what I have to say about beattie has nothing to do with a dislike of the manager.

Beattie did look jaded, unfit and like he couldn’t hit a barn door from 2 yards, but I truly believe that he was and still is a very good ’goalscoring’ striker as he proved before and now after his time at Everton. The fact was he was ruined at Everton by poor service, the midfields (and the Managements) lack of understanding on how to utilise his abiltiy. This was the reason his goals dried up which eventually led to a lack of confidence and the Beattie we saw towards the end (the one who couldn’t hit a barn door etc.). AJ is going exactly the same way. Yakubu will follow unless we sort out whats behind them.

This is the third time I’ve read about Beattie slamming the boss (sky sports news, tabloid article last month) and I feel for DM because he is in a no-win situation. David would be ill advised to address Beattie’s comments or get lured into mud slinging with the Blades front man but because he is unlikely to respond we are not hearing both sides of the story. Not the first time either that our manager has had to deal with such drivel- Shrek’s book.
