Overtrained?

Comments (7)

I see in today`s papers that Andy Johnson thinks he might be over-training and that the consequent loss of weight has affected his effectiveness `in the box`.

I wonder if this over-training is the reason why so many of our players seem to pick up injuries between games and seem so lightweight in comparison to most opponents?

The People seems to think that he has held talks with David Moyes this week about his future which has put Man City, Valencia, Tottenham and West Ham. We are also closing in on the signing of Ecuador striker Felipe Caicedo from FC Basel for 2 million, apparently.

We’re also about to enter October, so can’t sell or buy anyone for three months.

Take it all with a pinch of salt.

Too many conspiracy theories, the guys struggling for form, end of.

In other news, we’re 2 nil up and when we have the ball we’re playing some cracking football. As an attacking force we look bloody good today. Great goal Pienaar just scored.

Over-training is a very overused word these days and it takes quite a bit more to reach an over-trained state than the average athlete believes. If he’s losing weight, he simply needs to EAT MORE! Caloric intake < caloric expenditure = weight loss. It’s not rocket science.

Muscle weighs more than fat, if he thinks he’s not strong enough and too lightweight then doing some work in the gym might be a better idea than fattening up.

There is something to the over-training lark, Moyes and Irvine were guilty of this a few seasons ago and suffered considerable injuries because of it. Subsequently the club brought in a Portuguese (I think) trainer. This trainer has since left and I have not heard of a replacement.

Moyes is a fully driven manager hungry for success but subtly is a quality both he and Andy Irvine lack in their teams and their methods.

DM’s tactics are the reason why he isn’t scoring goals. Punting long inaccurate balls up to him just doesn’t work, the same as it didn’t work for Beattie and it won’t work for Yakubu. More creativity from midfield and some width would benefit AJ massively.
