The Moyesiah's Tactics

Comments (18)

A very interesting article in today's Telegraph Sport by one Stewart Robson(presumably some sort of pundit). He praises us for our team spirit but thinks that our chances for greatness are limited by the Moysiah's tactics (i.e. hoofball) and our poor passing.

Where have we heard all this before? It's bad when the national press are pointing out the deficiencies that we all know!!

For me, that article is right on the money. Yes, Moyes-hater, blah blah blah,... but as you say, when top sports journalists are pointing out the same inadequacies as dumb fans (should that be "drunken knobhead Evertonians"?) on a stupid website........

Weak point really as the same people have voted him manager of the season twice. Now we cannot have it both ways or can we?

Bottom line needs to do better but propganda is when you reprt one thing as fact as it suits you and ignore anything that does not back up your position.

Tony, by "the same people have voted him manager of the season twice" do you refer to the journos? If so, I think you’ll find Moyes was voted manager of the year by his peers (The League Managers Association). I think Mourinho scooped the journo’s award when we got 4th.

Oh well that settles it then Jorno’s know so much more about top level managment.

Bottom line this jorno’s opinion is no more relevant.

I think everyone makes these own opinions either way good or bad and can do so without making out that some story is gospel.

Obviously I mean Journo’s know more about top level management than the managers themselfs.

Moyes making mistakes is not the problem the real one is he keeps making the same mistakes instead of learning from them.

When are you geniuses going to get it. HE DOESN’T HAVE THE PLAYERS for a passing game. Had Fernandes signed, in conjunction with Arteta, you would be completely within your rights to make the comments you all have been making. In the interim, his ONLY choice is to play to the teams strenghts as he sees it, ugly or otherwise. The alternative is something no Blue wishes to contemplate.

If we get lucky, he may purchase a winger in January & VDM may get his act (even somewhat) into gear. Then complain as you will.

So Toffeeblue can you explain where those players we haven’t got came from in the Tottenham game and in the build up for Pienaar’s goal yesterday? We have players who can play it on the deck and carve open defences, if only they are allowed to, the manager dictates the tactics.

I think ToffeeBlue is missing the point. Why don’t we have those players you mention?

This is Moyes’s team...no-one forced him to buy Jagielka, or Neville, or any of the other players who cant pass on the deck.

As for spending power, he’s had plenty of it. We’ve spent 25 million on forwards, for a start, in the last 3 seasons. More than enough for a creative midfielder...

Yesterday showed that we are a different team with Arteta. DM needs to bring in at least one creative midfielder when the transfer window opens in Jan. I think he also should choose between Hibbert, Neville or Jags at rightback and stop trying to accomadate them all in the same team. Hopfully this will happen as soon as Cahill and Gravison are both fit. It would be great to win every game in the style of Arsenal, but i would settle for a dross boring 2-0 win everytime.

I think you will find that this rather technical piece is by the same Stewart Robson who played midfield for Arsenal,West ham and Coventry City in the 80/90s.He went on to become an FA staff coach and occasional contributor to up-market rags.Like Michael,I found the piece very perceptive by someone who knows what he is talking about and not ’just a journo’.

Couldn’t agree more with this Telegraph article and as said if he national journo’s can see it that says something in itself

God... you lot are never satisfied. Please save us from all the armchair Managers that you are. We get three points which takes us back up to 5th place - so what if the football isn’t fantastic. You can play free flowing attractive football and lose.

I don’t care how they play as long as they win.

Tony Hibbert has come in for a lot of stick last week - I thought he did well yesterday. As usual, typical supporters, quick to criticise and slow to praise.

moyes was a defender so he thinks defencively
this is a new team, it is the first team we’ve had in years that can "outplay" most other teams.
confidence isn’t high at the minute so we are grinding out wins
if we get a few wins together and then we don’t start playin well then we have something to worry about
right now though i’ll take wins however they come
moyes’s only fault in my eyes is that he builds his team around what the opposition has instead of letting the other managers worry about what we are gonna do.
prime example yesterday was playing hibbert at right back instead of neville
hibbert is much better defensively that neville but can’t attack very well.
that means we aimed to MARK downing out of the game.
alex ferguson would probably have played neville and let him bomb forward at every opportunity which would mean downing would be defending all game.
thats just my view on things

Journalists dont know as much as they think and are mischevious troublemakers, another story about Johnson’s unrest was in the sunday tabloids.
Once after a heavy defeat Fat Ron Atkinson at his press conference told the journalists who were giving him a hard time, ’what do you lot know about football how many England caps do you have’
52 between us piped up BBC Radio 5 pundit Jimmy Armfield who was capped 52 times in the 60’s
Hibbert done ok, Neville and Jagielka were poor.
I was a bit miffed at the end of the game to see 3 right backs on the field, 3 centre halfs and a left back and holding midfield player in the midfield.
I have heard of shutting up shop but it was like early closing on a Wednesday.

Dave T,you say "confidence isn’t high at the moment,so we are grinding out wins"It seemed like you were making this the reason why we are playing shite football. If it is,why for most of last season was the football we played as shite as we are playing now?

brian, we played shit last season because we only had one "footballer". so we played to our strengths.

moyes inherited an old, overpayed, shitty team and he’s turned it round
we have now bought some players who can actually play a bit
pienaar, graveson and baines being examples.

This website says it as it is, Yes we won so why moan but why can he not have some fucking balls we would of scored again yesterday if he would of kept the same formation instead of going all defensive against shite, who were creating nothing, but we went straight on the back foot, why can we not occasionally twat someone and entertain because thats what puts bums on seats and yesterday there where 6,000 missing but can you blame them?
Count the times we have slaughtered someone in the last 5 years.

Everyone should give that Guardian article on the front page about Beattie a good read, it says alot about Moyes' man-management skills and the way he is perceived by his own players aswell.

Saying that, I wouldn't swap him for Bryan Robson!
