Who'd have thought?

Comments (7)

Just a quick post this one with two questions:

  1. Who'd have thought at the start of the season that James McFadden would be the first forwards name on the teamsheet?
  2. Joleon Lescott - the new Derek Mountfield?

On 1), I think you're getting a little carried away... Johnson and Vaughan injured; Yak and Anichebe are trade-offs for eachother. The only other striker we have listed apart from McFad is Lukas Jutekiewicz (still to make his debut). Moyes may talk him up but I think the Scottish Rooney still has a lot of developing to do...

There is nothing more frustrating than a below par performance by McFadden.

He’s a player who seems to think he can glide past the opposition, turning them inside out what ever form he is in.

A player low on confidence should make sure he does the basics well, that is passing and moving.

The truth is, like a lot of players, he needs to feel wanted. He’s a real confidence player as recent weeks has demonstrated.

I feel a lot more comfortable with him in the side knowing his ’gliding’ and ’turning’ is now paired with something very important. Confidence.

Nobody would have thought that Mark and, hopefully, as soon as we have a fully fit squad he will be back on the bench ! Or better still back to Scotland.

I think McFabulous has grown up a lot and now that a)we know the rumours weren’t true since he has a kid and b)he has quit fooling around with his hair his performances have been much better. Ideally Johnson will find form again soon since an in form AJ is better than Mc but for now Mc is doing well for club and country.

I was going to post about Lescott being the new Mountfield myself but you beat me to the punch. Instead I can post about Howard being the new Wright (Practically never keeps a clean sheet even though he seems pretty good ....thus far) Jagielka being the new Ebbrell and Pienaar being the new Osman.

on the same note , could Baines one day be the new Ray Wilson ? he’s certainly the best left back we’ve had since Andy Hinchcliffe and better than Psycho (in my opinion) , he’s probably going to be the outstanding signing for this season anyway following Lescott , Cahill , Mikel , Nige Martin , ...the one signing Moyes seems to pull out of the hat each year ,

Joleon Lescott ( and I feel the need to write his name in full as out of respect ) is possibly the youngest, most professional, mature, English player there is right now. There will be allsorts of daft offers coming in for him & I hope we can keep him!!
Anichebe... now is it is his fault or the managers that he isn’t looking too good? Strong, tall lad, can finish in front of goal. But shit 1st touch & uncomfortable on the ball. I am absolutely sick of seeing the ’hoof’ to him & then the subsequent loss of the ball. I really prefer McFadden.. he’s a ’doer & grafter’ as opposed to Vics aspiration to Yakubus work rate which is shit.

James Vaughan ( based on last season’s showing ) would be the first forward’s name on my teamsheet, probably partnered by AJ.

Can see a day when it’s him and Vic up front for us. As for Yakubu, people question his workrate, but he was tackling back on Sunday and he is really just a goalscorer so that’s fair enough. 2 goals in 5 starts is not a bad record.

The question eventually will be: which formation suits which players best? Personally, I think the hardest part will e fittig in Cahill, but Davey must find a way...it’s going to be the key to our whole season.

With regard to fitting in Cahill, would a line-up of the following suit our mentality:

Howard

Neville Yobo Lescott Baines

Carsley/Jagielka
Arteta Gravesen Cahill Pienaar
Yakubu/McFadden/Johnson/Anichebe respectful of the opposition

For me that would represent a real handful going forward, as well as maintain a stability at the back
