Hard decisions

Comments (14)

Got asked two questions by one of my LFC mates the other night which I found very difficult to answer:

1) Would you rather be going to Wembley for the League Cup Final in Feburary or still be in the Uefa Cup?

I actually made my mind up instantly about this and chose the League Cup Final.

2) Who do you love more, Mikel Arteta or Duncan Ferguson?

Ouch! I didnt have a clue. I went over so many arguments in my head for and against both that let's just say it took me more than a few hours drinking time before I made my mind up. I'm sorry Dunc, but I prefer the San Sebastian touch over the Glasgow Kiss!

I’d rather be fighting for 4th than being in both the UEFA and League Cup... and FA Cup for that matter.

As for Big Dunc, we lost him to Newcastle in 97, and our world did not crumble, and didn;t get much better when he came back.
Areta leaving? Wouldn’t like to think about it.

1) I’d rather be in the League Cup final. We haven’t won anything for twelve years and the only team I wouldn’t be totally confident of us beating are already out.

2) Don’t even need to think about this one. Mikel Arteta is the most important (and probably the best) player I have seen in an Everton shirt. I’m 21 so haven’t exactly been spoiled for choice in terms of quality players during my time as an Evertonian but he is head and shoulders above anyone else. I never really bought in to the Duncan Ferguson phenomenon meanwhile, particularly the second time round. For me, his ability was limited and his presence had a detrimental effect on the way the team played.

Sean when you say detrimental on the way the team played, did you mean that we reverted to playing hoofball constantly???????????

Hang on a minute, Duncan has long gone and...................YES we STILL play sunday league Hoofball.
So it couldnt have been Duncans fault .....right?

Realistically we have no chance in the uefa so I go for a final. A real pick me up.If its ok for the sh..e + u.d,ars +chels to win it so why not us? Im waiting for Arteta to show that he can dominate against ALL opposition, not just average opponents. Then we can class him amongst the better players.

League cup final, I would just love any piece of silverware, and the day out

Mickey Arteta, although I loved big Dunc, Arteta is the best player I have ever seen in an Everton shirt and so important to our team, watching the season review 06/07 yesterday I was amazed how many goals we scored from his set pieces.

If you are picking League Cup, you are off base. I would much rather still be in the Eefa cup. The longer we stay there, the better the exposure. This club is in desperate need of a higher profile outside of England. The higher the profile, the more attractive to the next Fernandes to come along. League cup? Yawn.....

I’d go for the League Cup myself, though as Nick said finishing 4th would beat both of them. As for Duncan v Mikel; well Duncan epitomised something about loving Everton that anyone would find hard to replicate, but as a player there’s no contest - it’s got to be Mikky!

Simple answers for both questions really.

League cup final. Easy.
Even if we get past Metalist, we still have many games to win before we reach that final.
If we are already in the lEague cup final then we only have to win one to get the trophy.

Second question. Arteta. Easy. No doubts.

How much did we miss Duncan when he was injured? Not really much, as he was never really effectively consistant, whereas Mikel has just proved he is a massive loss when he is out...we are shite.

Duncan was more of an icon for his passion whereas Mikel is almost the complete footballer and most of the time has an end result.

Got to be LC final, realistically after beating an awful M’boro side by only two goals you have ask is this team capable of gelling and producing a cohesive performance that they are capable of, I personally believe we are a central midfielder away from that.

Arteta is possibly the best Everton player I have seen since Andrei Kanchelskis, Big Dunc was typical of a lot of Everton players over the years, big on reputation and short on serious graft and goals.
The huge difference between Arteta and virtually every Everton player for the past 20 years has been his ability to play for ninety minutes and walk off looking like he dose not even need a shower, shades of Alan Ball here. Not only that, he has his heart in the game unlike Kanchelskis and Everton for a change are getting his best years out of him. The only other current Everton player with as much heart and effect on the game is Lescott.

Id take league cup 100%. would put us in an excellent chance of winning a trophy, something we havent done for ages. Plus its th eonly domestic one we havent won. Ii dont expect us to get past the group stages if we beat metalist anyway to be honest.

I loved big dunc but arteta is so much more important to us than dunc was.

1) League cup final - without a doubt. We’ve never won it and I’d love another trip back to Wembley. Plus, If we won the final, we’d be back in the Uefa next year anyway.

2) Arteta - he’s the best player that I have ever seen play for Everton, and I’ve been going to Goodison for over 22 years. I think he’d have walked into the title winning sides of ’85 and ’87.

Got to be the EUFA cup.At least winning that would come with a bit of prestige.Who would want to win the Mickey mouse cup over that?
