Nice one, Simon

Another player given far too many chances like Beattie

From The Evening Echo (Cork):

"Fulham midfielder Simon Davies believes his career is back on track after a difficult spell at Everton.

"Davies has been one of Fulham?s most consistent performers this season but the former Tottenham midfielder was pleased to get away from Goodison Park where his career stalled. Davies admitted: 'I didn?t enjoy it at Everton and I was delighted to get back down to Fulham. Just playing every week gives you confidence.'"

He was given chances because the kid was a decent player. Just cos he didn’t enjoy it at Everton you cant frown on the lad.

In much happier news - Marseille scored the only goal at Anfield, hooray!

Being a welsh guy I have seen him play for wales and he is a totally different player.

I think it was the change in culture and our tactics.

Like most of the signings Moyes has made that haven’t worked out i was delighted when he signed (and i think many fans were if they’re being honest). More supporters i think were delighted than not about the signings of Davies, Wright, Van der Meyde, Beattie for example. But, they didn’t work out for whatever reason. I don’t think you can necessarily blame the players (although some don’t do themselves any favours with often ill-advised comments to the press which sound like sour grapes). It happens at every club. OK, so the budgets are vastly different but i think Moyes has probably lost less money on poor signings than the likes of Sir Alex on Veron alone. Across the park they’ve wasted some cash (hehe, Barmby anyone?) on various players.

There aren’t too many players that have left i wouldn’t cheer on a return visit as i prefer to focus on the gems like Cahill, Arteta, Yobo, Lescott etc. That must have at worst doubled in value since we signed them (such as Arteta has probably quadrupled at a VERY conservative estimate).

Yeah Davies is a great player for Wales, He’s one of our best, and most consistent players. But lets face it, he’s bound to look good amongst players of Fulham’s and Wales’ quality, he’s just not good enough for teams like Everton. Moyes bought him because he was a hard worker - and that’s what he likes in a player. A good squad player but ultimately lacked the quality we need. Mind you he’s miles better than Arteta at Corners!

Barry Horne’s best mate Simon Davies. His failure had nothing to do with tactics or different culture it had something to do with his actual ability.

A winger for me is supposed to go past a fullback and get a cross in and that I something I rarely seen him do. He classes himself as a winger and there where many times where he was one on one wiith a fulback and failed dramatically to either outpace or at smart his opponent. He actually looked more comfortable in the centre but even then there where many times where he was completely shite and overrun.

’I didn?t enjoy it at Everton and I was delighted to get back down to Fulham. Just playing every week gives you confidence.’"

If he was a good player he would have stayed with the better team and fought for his place so in my book a very average player. Yes he did flourish for Wales but international football for me is nothing compared to the Premiership. Wales had alot of kids in that team and playing against the likes of Cyprus and Bulgaria proves nothing in my eyes. The only Welshman I would want realistically at Everton is Jason Koumas who has sadly moved on but even he was twice the player Davies is.

What a load of toss Connor. The lad is a great player, he’s showing that for Wales and for Fulham, he’s a different class. Same goes for Beattie, 8 goals now, he’s got a fine goalscoring record but the service wasn’t available to him here.

Gareth - ’different class’?? Rubbish. Davies is average, if he wasn’t, he wouldn’t be playing for a lower-mid table Premier League team.

And as for Beattie - everyone needs to remember that James Beattie is playing in the Championship now because no other Premier League teams wanted him. He’s scored 8 goals in the Championship? So what?

G Nickson,at the end of the day no matter where you play, you still have to put the ball in the back of the net,and he’s doing it.Also, you can’t argue with his reason for his scoring spree,he now plays in a side with 2 wingers and gets decent service.Something he never got with us.
He has actually scored more goals than all our strikers put togethor.

Beattie was at very best a decent striker. At worst a pile of poo. Look at his goal scoring record for Blackburn and Southampton. He had about 1 very good season. Similar to Heskey. He had 1 very good season for Liverpoool in 2000/01 and was wank ever after.
Davies is the type of mediocre, non-scorong midfielder Everton have, sadly, specialised in over the last 20 years

Sounds like sour grapes to me Simon, of course you feel better playing every week.......and you would have been playing every week if you would have been good enough.

One name springs to mind when everyone starts singing Meatties praises in the fizzy drink league.............Robbie Fowler, Four goals in two games yet only scored a couple of pens in the dodgy cups for the Poo.

Yes Meattie is getting service but against teams like Stoke

Both Davies and Beattie are decent premiership players. It sometimes just doesn’t work out for a player at a certain club and a fresh challenge is just what is needed. Beattie and Davies both tried hard at Everton which is all you can ask for; but for one reason or the other it didn’t work out for them. I’m glad they’re both enjoying their football now and playing well.

Its been said earlier by someone else but looking good for Fulham, who are shite, is not going to cut it up here mate.

As for him saying he didn’t enjoy it up here, try watching the games you were involved, it was fucking well harder for us!! He looked a good player at spurs, but was shite for us, couldn’t beat a man, cross the ball or nothing. I think someone like Osman if he went to a lesser club would be the standout player & he is in and out of team.

John you say"He looked a good player at Spurs" That’s the reason why we bought him.He comes to us and is shite. He goes to Fulham and all of a sudden he is a very good player again.Funny how he was a good player for Spurs and then Fulham (I’ve got a neighbour who is a Fulham fan,and he says he has been excellent so far)but is shite for us.Some people say he looks good because he is in a shit side, but it doesn’t work that way.He has still got to perform against premiership sides week in week out, which he is doing.Couldn’t the reason why he never done it for us be down to Moyes? It’s funny how moyes is never to blame when a player is a flop with us.

Davies and Beattie were both shit for Everton.

That’s not Moyes’ fault. Its not the other players fault. It’s not the fans fault. It was their fault. They were just shit. They didn’t fit into the team.

Moyes was right to get rid when it didn’t work out for eaither of them. I dont doubt that they may well do better for their new teams. But so what? Should we have moulded our team around Beattie and Davies because they are playing better now? I dont think so.

Ok then Brian, lets get down to it. If he’s doing that good a job at Fulham he should be up there in the assists table or the tackling midfielder or completed passed or what about goals????? He’s in none of them. Fulham are again having a typically poor start (not bad for them, but poor) and he hasn’t looked bad?

That just isn’t good enough for a club like us who are on the up and attempting to improve in all areas. So don’t give me all that nonsense about it wasn’t his fault it must be bad management/coaching/style of play or whatever it was you were implying. Fact was, when he played everyone who watched the games wanted him off the pitch.

And that was cos’ he was shite!!

18   Posted 04/10/2007 at 13:35:59

Totally agree John,he was shite for us and I wanted him off.Thing is,why couldn’t it have been down Moyes?Isen’t it his fault that AJ hasn’t scored since March, with the shite tactics he employs? You know?AJ chasing long balls all game.It just seems Moyes is un-touchable and can’t do no wrong in the eyes of some fans, and as soon as you try to criticise him,you get slapped down for it.Also,I don’t know what Davies has been like for Fulham.I’m just going by what my neighbour told me,and as he said,he has been excellent up to now for them.He goes to watch Fulham,so is in a better position to judge him more than me and you.
John Lloyd
19   Posted 04/10/2007 at 14:38:04

Fair point about your neighbour mate, he probably is in a better position to judge. I also agree that DM tactics concerning AJ are affecting his goalscoring plainly because he spends so much time out of the box chasing down defenders & lost causes.

But IMHO dont think its the case for Davies, as both Osman & Arteta have played in the same posistion & been so much more effective. I think its a lot more down to the player not cutting it in this case.

Enjoyed the debate, but its butterflies time now!! Knocking off work in a few hours, home, shit, shower, shave.....into town to hopefully watch the lads get us through over in Kharkiv. Cant fookin wait. COYB!!
