Bitter

Comments (28)

After the first leg at Goodison my rednose acquaintances were full of glee, but tried to hide it, coming out with patronising comments like "It takes time to aclimatise to European games; Moyes is still learning" and, of course, they wanted us to get through. Now tonight I have got emails off three of them stating their desire to see us hammered in the return leg, the only possible reason is they got beat tonight. I never believed any different but how bitter that as soon as their game was over the first thought was wanting us to fail. To be fair, I enjoyed their defeat but when we lose I'm too gutted to think about anyone else for a few hours at least...

Why is it that a fairly small club in France can go to Anfield and outplay one of the so called big 4? The only names I recognised were a few redshite rejects, the rest were talented, fit and pacy. I'm sure their wage bill is a fraction of ours, so why can't Moyes find and sign players that can actually play football? Probably because he was a hoofball merchant himself and finds it difficult to recognise and nurture the type of players we all crave....and before everyone screams "Arteta!", we were lucky to get him as Moyes was in no great rush to sign him and we just about ended up with him by default.

Yes, French club, isn’t it? South of the Channel somewhere anyways, so it must be small and insignificant and remote and unchartered territory that needs to be bestowed proper civilization by us Englishmen.

A fairly small club in France you say? Olympique Marseille comes from the second largest city in France, they regularly draw attendances over 60.000, they’ve won the French league eight times AND they won the Champions League in 1993 (runner-up in 1991). They also reached the UEFA cup final in 2004.

You are just using your own ignorance as yet another excuse for slagging off David Moyes. Perhaps Moyes can’t find too many proper footballers because he has too many people around him with the same limited worldview as you, Mike?

Einar - cracking response. I loved Mike’s "the only names I recognised"!! After being in the doldrums due to a nefarious administration it’s great to see one of the biggest teams in France and once Europe (who have won far more than we have) pulling off a big scalp!

Jeezus! I’m not Moyesies biggest fan but to turn a redshite defeat into a rant against our "style" or lack of it is just petty!
Birmingham drew at analfield recently - do you want us to get Steve Bruce in??

Absolute classic Mike, your ability to turn a neutral post into another attack at Moyes is first class.

Where would our great club ve without fans like you.

Priceless

I am not making any comments on the Liverpool v Marseille game to my Liverpool supporting bosses until tonight’s game is over with. I don’t want to put the mockers on our game - very Irish superstitious and if we do win comfortably, I will say "Oh I forgot to make a comment on your game etc.

Fingers crossed for a good result!!

It was one single game. Against what I suspect will be the third or fourth placed side in England again.

Going by this logic, Dinamo Bucharesti’s trashing of us in between 4th and 11th placed seasons in England (avg 7th) should have sent shock waves through-out Europe with regards to how clubs in the medium European leagues are ran on the basis that one of these sides were able to blow a decent English side off the pitch.

Get real.

Well done, Einar. You pretty much sum up my feelings about Mike’s comments. Marseille are or were one of the big teams of Europe. They had some fantastic players in the early 90s.
Sadly, outside of our own country Everton are almost unknown. Lets hope that starts to change this season.

Don’t particularly want the Shite dropping down into the UEFA though. Bastards!

I thought it was hilarious them losing at home last night, especially as one of my closest mates, a kopite, gave me hell when we drew with the mentalists. Its always funny to see the shite lose, nothing malicious in it. its just funny.

I always wish defeat upon them! :)

Well done Marseille, not bad for a little French club! ;)

Don’t really care what happened last night and what Marseille have done... I am focussed on tonight and can only hope for a positive outcome.
Moyes bashing does not help and to those that do remember how much better we than under Smith and that progress is very very slow without multi millions in the bank.
If Moyes went tomorrow it would mean new person to put his mark on things and wait another 5 years to progress.... we have progressed in 5 years not as fast as we all would have liked but its better now than it was.
If we go out tonight c’est la vie .... deal with it... move on ...we just have to fight to get 5th in league again and try again..... 3rd time lucky ??

We are in a catch 22 position if we progress to the next stage of the UEFA cup and then progress again the Redshite after coming third in their group will join us.
I would much prefer them to get knocked out at the first knockout stage of the Champions League to avoid having to play them in the final of the UEFA cup

I hope we stick to the same tried and trusted side week in week out with minor tactical changes or changes caused by a players loss of form, perhaps resting the odd player in the league cup.
I thought Andy Gray made some valid points about rotation systems last night, I had to check the internet to see who Sebastian Leto was, that selection was crazy, how can your timing and technique be perfected if you dont play every week. How can you be tired at the beginning of October. That smug Spanish bastard got his come uppance last night.

Who gives a fuck about them? what thier fans think, how they got on should never matter to an Evertonian.

Pretend they don’t exist & life is a lot better

I did exercise my chuckle muscles last night after their defeat but I won’t say anything to any rs i know until after tonights match - In any case they have plenty of time to recover as they’re part of a group stage.

Have a private chuckle only about Marseille until after we beat the Ukranians.
We have had to put up with a lot of baiting and shite from the Reds so why not retaliate when the opportunity arises, lets hope at 9:30 tonight we will be in the pub giving out to the bastards.

Mais Oui Monsieur Williams.
If Monsieur Moyes has M. Hibbert (poulet sans tete) dans le droit and M.Neville et M.Carsley dans le centre then we will loose.
Merdre.
But if he doesn’t.........ALLEZ LES BLEUS
