11 million down the pan

Once again Yakubu showed tonight just how awful he is. His lazy, lethargic "I can´t be arsed" attitude was in direct contrast to the exuberance and business of Anichebe once he came on. Also, Faddy showed how he is turning into the most clinical finisher we have at the club, and, as result, must surely retain his place in the starting line up and be given a decent run.

We all know he´s a confidence player. For me, Yakubu would be fourth or fifth choice striker on current showings. Johnson to start with Macfadden with both Victor and Vaughny far preferable options to the disinterested Yak.

I defended Yakubu in an earlier reply and still stand by my assertion that his record speaks for itself but you do have to wonder when a 19 year-old kid who cost us nothing comes on as a sub in two European fixtures and makes the kind of impact his £11.5m supposed superior showed no sign at all of making.

Yakubu was one half of a good strike partnership the other half was Viduka. Did we buy the wrong half?
The same can be said about Beattie and Philips.
Should we have bought them in pairs? If the Yak can form a new partnership at Everton we may see his full potential unleashed..

Can David Moyes craft Yakubu into the type of player Anichebe already is?

Paying £11 million for a guy clearly out-of-shape, prone-to-laziness and not as good as the teenage youth product player is a bad move by Moyes.

From the very first links I have questioned the Yakubu signing. I just don’t think he’s a Moyes type of player and cant see him settling. The chances of him scoring 20 goals this season are very fucking slim (unlike Yakubu himself).

Don’t worry though Tony Marsh says Yakubu will be a legend.

Agree with the above.

Will give him time but showing a complete lack of effort for the price we paid for him is not endearing him to us.

You have to worry when Anichebe shows him up, maybe its a fitness thing, maybe its a poor service thing, maybe we’re no mugs when it come to looking like we’ve been ripped off.

McFadden on the other hand is looking better and the 11 million doesnt bother me when I know we have Vaughan coming back, I reckon he will make the difference up front - if his knee doesnt fall off or something.

I was trying to give him time to get used to our style of play ,but watching him jog back after one of their players with the ball was the limit he seems as if he dose not care ,early days I know but that cameo summed up his career at Everton so far.

Yakubu looks lost, very lost and still has a lot to learn (regardless of his goals tally). I just hope he is willing to.

From the start he appeared to be an arrogant journeyman who only cared about his career. Yet I feel that same arrogance will force him to prove his self.

Yak just looks unfit. And just hasn’t the legs to run down everything (he’ll never be able to like Johnson) but in comparison to the others he really needs a major work out to give him the right attitude and fitness.

Biffa was in the paper the other day saying the reason he’s scored so many goals at Sheff Utd was because they play with two wingers.

We just don’t provide the service for these types of players.

Get rid. He’s just going to annoy us.

Dutch, what is a Moyes type player?? Please explain....

I’m sick and tired of Moyes destroying any creativity and flare of players in order to establish a ’workman like’ performance. Any European player with an ounce of flare wouldn’t consider us as Moyes seeks to change his players into a player like he was. One that gives his all for the cause and leaves nothing behind.

That’s all well and good against the lower teams, but entering the next phase of Europe we’re are going to need players like the ilk of Arteta to create opportunites as the hoof ball approach won’t stand up. Looking back at when Fernandes scored against Manure last year, the first point Moyes alerted the media to was his lack of work ethic!!! No mention of the goal that would have got us the victory had Turner not grounded a sitter to give the wankers a sniff!!

How many games has Yakubu played?? GIve the lad a chance as he has already scored more goals than AJ this year!!!!

Lets give Yakubu some time to settle and get of his back. They may both be big and black but Anichebe and the Yak are two completely different players, the Yak is a finisher and will prove it with the right service, sorry but he isn’t going to Marcus Bent it down the channel chasing aimless balls - as soon as we get some quality in midfield and the through balls come he will score goals galore!

Dick Fearon’s comment was on the mark. 59 years old and having supported Everton since just out of nappies so I’ve seen a lot. Time and time again I’ve seen teams buy the one half of a striking partnership and seen it fail. Usually it takes the provider and the scorer together and some pairs click while others don’t, even when both are good players. Why don’t coaches/managers learn? Good sound comment, Dick.

Beattie is top of the championship goals table with 8 goals. He is playing in a team that is currently 19th in the table. He also scored goals at Southampton, that’s why we signed him. To me that tells me that with the same sort of service he would of got more goals at Everton. It also tells me that when DM signs strikers he tries to fit them into his system, a ploy they clearly doesn’t work for them. Both Johnson and Yakubu are struggling for goals because of the tactics DM employs. I agree that Yakubu was poor last night, but so was the service he got. If we are going to get our moneys worth out of them we have to start playing similar tactics to what they were used to when they were scoring goals at their former clubs.

Sometimes you have to build a team around a player, not get a player to fit into a team.

Im sure i heard moyesy make a comment like this about the time he signed biffa, and then he proceeded to play him alone up front.

The thing is we have decent enough players to entertain the styles that suit the yak, and so obviously suit Beattie (taking into account his current goal tally), but DM seems unwilling to accomodate a style to suit these players.

Yakubu:
a) isn’t 100% fit
b)getting proper service from the likes of Gravesen/Arteta/Osman/Cahill yet
c)is getting too much expectation placed on him from his pricetag too early...give the lad a chance...

He looks like an overweight oaf, that’s being shown up by a teenager, but his goalscoring record speaks for itself...he will get the goals in time...as will AJ also...

The thing about Beattie is that he’s scored 8 goals in "the championship" which probably puts him on par with Dave Nugent or something in terms of quality...different kettle of fish the premier league....which is evident for Nugent right now it seems...

When Moyes talked about building a team round a player I think he meant Tony Hibbert.

Buying 11 million yaks in Mongolia would have been a better investment than spending £11 million on one Yak who is looking more like a cart-horse...

I agree Yak looks shite so far but its similar to the Beattie scenario. These players need service fromt he flanks - we dont play that style/ Did Moyes actually watch him before buying him or just look at his goalscoring record on paper?

I’ve seen some lazy shite in Everton shirts in my time as a fan (40-odd years), but I cannot say I’ve seen anyone quite so shite as Yakubu. We could have got Heskey for a fraction of the money and he would have done exactly the same lazy, couldn’t hit a barn door at 3 feet job. Get rid of him in January.

Its going to be hard to change his ways, but he was bloody lazy last night, and I for one was screaming at his lazy arse to track back. Jogging around after players and doing nothing drove me nuts.

His touch is awful as well.

He couldnt trap wind.

I think Everton panic bought when Vaughan got seriously injured & Yak was the only available forward that said he wanted to join Everton.

I also think that there might be a Svechenko, Mourinho & Abramovich thing going on with the board & Moyes. I don’t think Moyes wanted Yak but is being forced to play him. Why does he take him off always around the hour mark?

Two points:

1. Yak never received service from the flanks to score the goals he has in the past, he’s largely taken the ball from deep and powered through to finish. Admittedly we’re playing the long ball to the front so we’re not suiting this style but it’s not because we don’t have wingers.

2. I was mocked the other day for saying that of the strikers Faddy is first on the team sheet. Vaughan aside, i still firmly believe at the moment he is. Can anyone REALLY argue against that at the moment?

Give us a break fellas!! Its all Mioyes fault is that Beattie didn’t come good for us? You’re having a laugh aren’t you? Tell me how many absolute sitters he missed or was that Moyes fault as well.

I would just like to say that, although I feel 10lbs lighter from the stress of watching last night’s game, that I was proud of our boys coming back with 3 goals - well done - I was over the "blue" moon, and as one of the supporter’s banners said - I felt I was on the "mental list" for watching it". Also wou.ld like to say well done to all those supporters who made the journey - glad you got your reward.

If the Yak is worth 11m then big Vic is worth 22m as he’s twice the player Yak is. Of course he isn’t worth 22m, but you know what i mean.

On numerous occasions since his wonder goal for Scotland I have posted on this forum Faddy should be in the lineup and we should capitalise on his form. I have also said Anichebe offers more than Yakubu.
I think in Faddy now we have the making of a great player. I also believe Vaughan is a fantastic player.
I honestly cant see AJ staying at the club as these rumours get stronger and his form is dipping.
Yakubu requires a certain amount of service, he played alongside a fellow big man in Viduka at Boro. At the moment he is not getting the service, it is annoying to see him cropping up wide left 40 yards from goal when you would expect him to be in or near the box at that time. I hold out hope he will come good but it is frustrating to watch him at the moment.
Apart from Jagielka and the shaky centre back partnership last night we did well enough, considering how lightweight the midfield was.

Maybe if we stopped launching the ball well over his head as our only form of ’creativity’, Yakubu would have more of a chance. He scores his goals in and around the box, with balls in to feet, not running onto lost causes. That’s AJ’s job, unfortunately.

A striker is only as good as the service provided and until yakubu gets proper service he will continue to look average, as for anichebe its quite obvious that he’s an impact player and bringing him off the bench is the best way to go for the time being as he does not have the same influence as when he starts matches.

I was talking to my son about why Moyesee bought Yak. My son is still playing and 34 yrs old - a strker gradually moving back towards defence. Any of you who play know the scene. But he is a good thinker. He reckons Moyesaee bought Yak, not because he’s the same as, but because he is similar enough to Vic Anichebe. Son Mike reckons Moyesee wants to play a certain style and wants to have cover for the Yak/Vic position without changing the formation. I’d like to know what others think about this view.

Everton will always thrive by having one lazy player on the field.

yakubu does not become a bad player over night but you have got to know how to use him and play to his strengths. Yakubu is an oxe of a man - a power house asking him to run channels like aj in not realistic.

Our players either dont know how to play to his strengths or dont have the quality to do it. I have felt sorry for the lad...what is he supposed to do with some of the crap served up by the likes of neville and hibbert its hit and hope at best. until we learn to be patient and work openings we will not get the best out of the Yak his goal record speaks for itself.

maybe its not a coincedence that players who score gols for fun elsewehere stop scoring when we but them look at aj and biffa.
the service is appalling

I feel sorry for Yakubu. In another moment of enlightened Moyesism he has been bought to be a Duncan/Campbell/Beattie targetman, when he blatantly is not, never was and never will be that. He’s a predatory striker. He’s not a hard-worker.

Why does Anichebe look better? Because in our limiited tactics he has the attributes to stand out. And make the hoofball work.

its quite obvious that yakubu is gunna be shite without proper service, just look at his 2 goals he’s scored for us so far.....a cross from aj to his feet after a good run thru the middle against bolton. and a threaded thru ball from mcfadden against sheff wed in the cup.
give him the ball on the wing or deep and he’s gunna produce shite all. give him time and more service and he’ll be a great signing for everton.

I was very disappointed with Yakubu tonight, but in his defence what services did he have?

In the first half the defenders just whacked the ball up to their goalkeeper or defenders. Yes Johnson would run his nuts off to get it but Yakubu (and McFaddon) isnt that type of player.

Two things I noiticed him do well and both times the ball was played to his feet.

His record speaks for it self, however you pay that sort of money and you should adapt for him, not him to you.

He does need to try a bit harder when he does chase someone.

Last thing, Pienaar looks useful, was impressed with his effort and he looks as though he has some creativity too.
