Yak vs Super kev

Comments (4)

Just a thought on the Yak. Having watched the way Moyes lines Everton up at the moment, I have a strong feeling that he is hoping (trying to convert?) that the Yak will play like Kevin Cambell used to ? holds up play, spreads the play wide / to onrushing midfielder or through to his strike partner. I'm not convinced that this is the Yak's best asset.

He has a similar stature to Cambell, but I honestly don't think he is very happy with his back to the goal 30 / 40 / 50 yards out trying to link play. At Boro' they had Viduka for that. His record is more consistently prolific than Kev Cambells ever was (no disresect to Kev), but that is because they have different styles. I hope Moyes has realised this and isn't trying to put square pegs in round holes again....

The answer is simple we did not get the midfield players we needed and wanted, if we had we would be seeing the best of Yak by now. {how can u compare kev to yak its like maradona and osman}

I think he originally planned to play "The Yak" up front with AJ, with AJ holding the ball up/drifting out wide and creating space for Yak to exploit. However with AJ’s lack of form/injury he’s had to play McFadden up there instead (with some sucess). This means that Yak is the focus for all our long balls now instead of AJ. I beleive that once AJ is back on form it’ll help him out a bit as he’ll do the donkey work, and when Graveson is back he will be able to pass to Yak in dangerous areas, thus increasing his chances of getting the ball with his front to goal for a change. I think the biggest factor though in getting the best out of Yakubu will be Cahill’s return to the team. Bursting from midfield will give the opposition’s defence someone other then Yak to worry about, it’ll create more space for the midfield to slot balls through to him. I know he’s looked a bag of bollocks so far but he will come good, we just don’t have the players at the moment to play to his strenghts.

First of all thank christ for the result last night. The performance was poor but we got a win away in the Ukraine, which was always going to be difficult.

They were always going into the game with the upper hand after the Goodison debacle and were always going to be able to play it that bit easier in terms of pushing on. We paid for there performance in the first leg.

If things don't get sorted, which hopefully they will once we get Timmy and Tommy back, we will get embarrassed at some (or several) points in the group stages. Hopefully, last night's results will allow us to kick-on and up the confidence levels a bit. There were still too many Everton players showing a complete inability to play a simple pass to the feet of another Everton player.

Anyway, fingers crossed for a kind draw and for an improvement in our play. Now we have Mikky back, we should be able to keep the ball that bit better and create that bit more.

Second point, is regarding Yakubu. Does anyone seriously think that Moyes bought him to use as a work-horse? He never has been, never will be. We have 2 proven goalscorers in AJ and Yakubu and they've managed 2 goals between them this season. Same thing happened to Beattie.

There needs to be service to the front men. AJ did sterling work at the start of the season in creating 2 or 3 goals, but he has had no-one to provide those chances for him. If the midfield can provide the ball on the deck to Yakubu's feet in a goalscoring position he will score plenty. THAT is what he is there for, not to drag his 15 stone arse all over the pitch chasing lost causes.

I want to see AJ making diagonal runs TOWARDS the goal, not continually away from the bloody thing. I want to see 3 or 4 passes (like for the 2nd against Sheff Wed, but against good opposition) that move the ball, stretch the opposition defence and give our strikers space to find around their box. Then I want Arteta, Gravesen or whoever to put the ball in that space and for AJ or Yak to have a decent chance of scoring.

It's not bloody rocket science, if we don't stretch the opposition defence, as Metalist did to us several times last night, we won't create anything for our nigh-on £20M strikeforce.

I'm not going to try to pick out the team that can do that, because let's face it, any of our midfiled players SHOULD be capable of passing, moving and playing either a through ball into space or a decisive pass into feet.

If Yakubu and AJ don't get the service, they won't get the goals. I don't want to see Yakubu chasing, chasing, chasing. I want to see him given chaces to score and I want the same for AJ, it's time he stopped working his arse off for no reward.
