The Mail Bag

Why the surprise?

We were told by his ex-supporters that Jagielka is a Centreback, if pushed, a Rightback, but NOT a midfielder. If we can find someone ( Neville? ) to play the wingbacks role with Baines, we can go with a back 3 of Jag. Yobo and Lescott. With the 2 Wingbacks operating further up the field as quasi Midfielders, this will do away with the footballing equivalent of the West Lothian conundrum, the 'Hibbert question' In a back 4 with no proper R Mid. and / or Arteta ( or who ever )gone walkabout, how to properly deal with the space left infront of him. There is no finer one for one winger marker, but the rest of it... dire.

So that's..1 Keeper; 3 Centrebacks; 2 Wingbacks; 3 Centre-mids (1 with extra holding) and 2 Forwards. Supersize the School of Science and hold the Hoofball.

I'm lovin it!!

I am baffled as to why Moyes continues to play Arteta on the flanks when we are in desperate need for someone in the middle to put their foot on the ball and distribute accurately. At the moment, we have alot more choices on the wings than we do at centre mid. Why experiment with the most important position on the park with players like Jagielka and Neville who are clearly not midfielders. I say stick Arteta in the middle with Carsley, Nev at right back, and either Osman/Piennar on the right wing. It’s not rocket science!

Why is moyes benching Carsley and Baines and not Jageilka or Yak?

Carsley and Baines have performed well so far. I’ve seen glowing tribute to Baines in this forum even when we sucked big time.

I hope Moyes is reading this cause i am really pissed off right now

If i were DM i’d keep Anichebe on the bench and only introduce him 30+ minutes in every game.

Remember, United became a great team by having Ole Gunnar Solkjear.

Let Yak or Johnson play full.

Strangely enough, the Sheff U fans that I come into contact with have told me more than once that, whilst he is adept at Centre Back, Jagielka’s best position is undoubtedy as Defensive Midfielder. The evidence of Thursday night might prove otherwise, but I still think the jury’s out on this one. He was much further up the pitch than Carsley normally plays and, with a little coaching, the holding role may yet be a position he excels in.

Oh, and Arteta plays out wide because it is by far his best position.

I was at school with Phil Jagielka (ya-gelka, not Jag-yelka, or ’iggy’), and he always used to play either as a winger or midfielder (back during his first stint at Everton!). I know this was a long time ago, but several of my old school friends are still in contact. It is widely known that he feels not only is his favoured position defensive midfield, but also, he feels his best.

Sean and Phil I have been told by many Sheffield Utd fans that Jagielka’s best position is centre half. He played his best football last season at centre half and its his best position. He said in an interview that while he thinks central defense is his best position he likes plays central midfield more because it gives him a chance to get further up the pitch.

At the moment I think he is best suited to right back and when Stubbsy retires back up centre half.
