Moyes best ever?

Can it be true? David Moyes is just one game away from being our most successful manager since the Premier League began? Joe Royle managed to get Everton through to the second round of the old European Cup Winners Cup before his side bombed out against Feyenoord but the big man's League record hardly bears comparison with that of the long-serving Moyes and the football his teams produced was hardly much better.
True, our local hero managed to claim success in winning the FA Cup and Charity Shield but these hardly count for much in today's game where thre Premier and Europe are where it's at.
I don't subscibe to the Moyesiah creed of Dodd & Co but I do believe that we should give credit where it's due. So, if Moyes can manage to pull off that second consecutive victory in the group stage of the UEFA, I reckon he should be crowned as our No.1 Top manager.

Ah, so "best ever" in the Premiership then? Good we have more than a century of history before that then otherwise we'd have no league titles to our name.

Nobody over 30 gives a flying fuck for what happened in the last century.Totally different game now with so many foreign stars in the Prem. The old timers I’ve seen on film wouldn’t live with the likes of Ronaldo and Trevez. For most of us ’our ’istory ’began in 1992 or later,-what went before belonged to Dad’s Army!

As an Evertonian for over 50 years,I’d put Moyes behind only Carey,Catterick and Kendal 1.-although it would be a long way behind all three! I know the style of play often leaves much to be desired but we’re no worse than all but the elite-and better than them sometimes!
Just remember how many really crap managers we’ve had to endure-Lee,Walker and Smith and’ the other ’Kendal spells spring to mind and in the latter days of the Cat,the football was so dire (Bernie Wright, Belfitt etc.)gates went down to 20,000.
Moyes is no genius but he’s better than all but the very best in today’s Premier.

Mr Nethercott, I presume you mean nobody UNDER thirty gives a flying fuck what happened in the past. You may be right, but I doubt it. Can some of our under thirties write in to confirm (or deny) that they don’t give a flying fuck about our history?

sean, i think you mean UNDER 30, but your lack of respect does you no credit. One day you too will remember this team with affection and some little upstart will speak as you have, I hope then you will think first, before spouting shite as you have!

Couldn’t agree more Nat , David Moyes has taken us from Walter Smith’s nearly relegated team in 2002 .. to a team that we now expect to qualify for european competition every season , with our strongest squad for 20 years , when only a few seasons ago we had to sell our best players to keep ourselves afloat , we’ve a brand new state of the art training complex and can afford to tell would be mega - rich suitors to stuff their bids for AJ , Tim C and Mikel and in fact sign them up to long term contracts ! The Board of the day in 1986 in their wisdom even thought it was a financial viable prospect to sell Lineker instead of telling him to keep to the contract he’d just signed and then they should have bought Beardsley who was up for grabs , great forward thinking !! David Moyes has still got some way to go to emulate Kendall (1) , and the Catt , but he’s better than most in the prem

Dear Mr Nethercott, that was the biggest load of verbal shite i have heard since tony blairs wepons of mass destruction speech. There is nobody playing today could hold a candle to ALAN BALL, TONY KAY, BRIAN LABONE, WILLIAM RALPH DEAN, ROY VERNON, BOBBY COLLINS, i could go on, on, on, but a guy like you would not understand that i am talking pure CLASS, that does not exist today. obviously you are not a real BLUE, you dont recognise our fantastic past therefore you must be a redshite deep down, OR you could just be the proverbial VILLAGE IDIOT.

Sorry Mr Coyne , but DM is far better than Gordon Lee ever was .... I mean he would have dropped Mikel Arteta for being " too good " and would have said the imortal lines " give me a team of Pistone’s anyday " seriously though can sean nethercott be real ? I had the priviledge of seeing Bally and Labone play .. to these two ledgends pulling on the blue shirt was an honour not a meal ticket , They would be un - buyable in today’s transfer market and Bill Dean ???? how dare anybody say , ’ who gives a f**k ’ WELL I DO AND SO DO THOUSANDS OF EVERTONIANS OF ALL AGES !!!!!!!

I think people like KIeran, Dodd and Barks are club stooges who come on to try and dampen down expectations, well sorry it doesn’t work, your wasting your time. Most of us have seen better and won’t stomach the dross of not being able to string two passes together ala Metallist first half. Oh, and just because were going to be stuck with Moysie for the foreseeable future it doesn’t mean we can’t express our disenchantment by kindly asking him get his coat if he keeps getting it SO wrong. You can criticise Royle all you like but at least we had some fucking wingers getting service to our forwards whereas as nowadays were asking our forwards to be jacks of all trades and masters of none. I doubt we well ever see a game like 7-1 against Southampton under Moyes as he’d have extra defenders on after 2-0 up and that’s the really depressing part. Our defender top scorer, says it all, but thank christ he has scored those goals. Never mind though, lets all ’get behind the team’ and accept that ’results matter, end of’ with scant consideration for the direction we are progressing which could ultimately ending up with our best players asking for transfers when they have got to the point where they are just too pissed off with it all

Erm...... how is it that the FA cup and charity sheild, ACTUAL TROPHIES!! don’t mean anything in this day and age?? People moan on about not winning trophies and then you undermine their very existence!
I’m sorry, but to me they do mean something. And i’m sure if we were to win or progress far in any cup this season, it would be significant to most evertonians!
I’m not suggesting Royle was better than Moyes, but please, respect the competitions we did win in the last 20 years as without them there isn’t much else to shout about

Kieran you say "True, our local hero managed to claim success in winning the f.a cup and charity shield but these hardly count for much in todays game"To me, you sound like you are not really giving much credit to big Joe for what he achieved. Then in the next breath you say we should give credit where it’s due to Moyes. Could I ask for winning what exactly?Moyes hasn’t even got close to bringing any silverware to us.

....The grass always seems to be greener somewhere else for the majority who post on this site. Think back to before Moyes and that dross we had to put up with. Even Royle, people got on his back after we were beaten by Bradford when Kanchelskis wanted out. However you lot don’t seem to remember all this shite. It seems half of you have been in a coma since the glory 80’s, now you have awoke and you want more! Get real!

You are right Brian Denton, I am under thirty and do give a fuck about are history. How can you not care about and celebrate players such as Ball, young to name but two.
Regardless of age do all Everton fan not sing of the effect our history has on their heart. Clearly Sean nethercot does not have a heart that is blue and white or he is lying when he sings. IN WHICH DON’T BOTHER WE DON’T NEED THE LIKE OF YOU, THERE ARE TOO MANY NEGATIVE EVERTONIANS.

Some of you seem to forget the financial limitations imposed on David Moyes since his appointment , of course he’d loved to have signed Ronaldo to supply goals and crosses for Beattie/Yakubu and he’d loved to have kept Rooney , but even so he managed to sign and keep , Yobo , Cahill , Arteta , Lescott , AJ , Martin , Howard , .. Mc Fadden is now starting to show his worth , Baines is proving to be a great signing , Piennaar is looking good , No matter what you Moyes haters say , we would still be fighting relegation every season without him or even worse fighting relegation from the championship , which is were we were heading before he came along... .... but then I suspect this is where some of you so-called-supporters would love us to be , It would give you something more to justify having a bah - humbug attitude to life . Cheer up , it’s Christmas soon , you can moan at a few smiling kids as well then

Moyes the best don t make me laugh. 5 years down the line no trophies, we are mid table and playing the same old boring brand of hoofball.

Arthur Jones, Isn’t that the problem - all those class players you mention, but Moyes still contrives to put out a crap team/formation.

Poor Kieran has been shown as yet another victim of SKYTV and the Premiership propaganda machine. Winning the League or one (or more) of the Cups are true measures of a managers success.
Staying around to have won more matches during the recent history of the Premiership than people who are excluded from consideration is no measure of greatness.
The only comparison is based on winning, and since the arrival of DM we have not even managed to remain in the top half of the league for successive seasons, no appearances in cup finals, therefore if the avoidance of relegation is your definition of success you have ignored our club motto.
If the arguement needs to be based on the supporters age that is even worse. I have absorbed most of my knowledge, football and non football is based on things that happened or were discovered before I, and each of you were born. That doesn’t mean it has to be ignored because it happened before my birth (or yours) it is our history we should cherish it.
A short sighted view would have Everton buy the David France collection and deposit it in the nearest skip because it consists of loads of old stuff.

Big Joes team played with a lot more flair at times than moyes’ remember kanchelskis scoring all them goals? We hardly got bombed out against Feyenoord in 95 either, losing 1.0 over 2 legs against a team who were favourites to go through anyway!
When we went 1.0 down today how many of us honestly expected to win?
