The end for Moyes
Comments (62)
If West Ham win their game in hand then Everton will be in the bottom half of the table after 9 games. After all the time he has been given, all the money he has spent and all the embarrassing performances we have witnessed, surely this is the end for Moyes. Bottom half is not good enough and it certainly isn't progress. Because of the investment financially most Evertonians would say we have our best team on paper for many years. But this is because of the investment and not Moyes. His signings have been a mixture of success and failure but if you keep spending money the squad is bound to improve.
We currently have strikers who can't score, midfielders who can't pass and now a defence which has kept 2 clean sheets in 12 games. We have centre backs playing at full back, centre backs playing centre midfield and if Lescott keeps scoring well probably have a centre back up front. It was obvious during close season that we needed quality central midfielders and Moyes failed to address this. A couple of injuries and were left with Neville and Carsley in the middle. So after all this time and money were right back where it all started, fighting relegation.

Yakubu on as sub on 90 minutes for midfield maestro Phil Neville whilst Hibbo at right back. Our record signing benched because he cannot be gainfully employed whilst our captain continues to do what he does worst in the engine room. BTW clever subsitution that, on 90 minutes
Some excerpts from today?s match reports:
"Everton were rarely seen as an attacking force in the first half"
"Everton created little going forward"
?Everton did not perform to their capabilities?
David Moyes:
"There was no tiredness after our Uefa Cup tie in the Ukraine. It was more down to our bad play."
"We've conceded five goals in our last two games and that is rubbish. The goals we conceded here were rubbish"
No mate, you are fucking rubbish, do one
2 Posted 07/10/2007 at 23:23:09
I must admit that his management looks really poor at times this season! Hopefully with a full squad things will improve.
3 Posted 07/10/2007 at 23:26:21
I am just angry as hell. all the 3 goals we conceeded to the barcodes are from mistakes by the defenders namely our CM.
Why didn’t DM substitute Yobo early, instead he replaced Pinnear with Osman?
Furthermore, noticed that all our defeats are due to less than standard defending?
Why have we became so crappy in defending when defending was our main strength the last 4 seasons?
Why oh why? Why keep Yobo in the line up when he was the one responsible for the screw-up with the Metalist game?
Both Metalists goal from the middle due to Yobo’s late response. If Yobo was on the mark with his marking, both goals would’ve been averted?

We cant be calling for Moyes head after every draw or defeat, the cliche "they were for the taking" doesnt apply for every game, there is no such team which will win all games.
Its clear that he is not sure which are our best 11 and given that we are without Tim,Tommy and James and that we are still in Europe and Carling Cup I think that it will be fair to judge him in January or February.
5 Posted 07/10/2007 at 23:47:34
Right now i still believe we’re alot better off than many clubs. We have Cahill to come back, AJ to still get back and fit. Vaughan to come back. And the Yak to get used to how we play.
6 Posted 07/10/2007 at 23:59:58
As others have said, judge at the end of the season. If the new signings have proven a complete bust and weak cup exits have occurred, I’ll be right there with anyone saying Moyesey’s past his sell by date.

8 Posted 08/10/2007 at 00:37:22
As we have heard almost nothing of Gravesens injury and Cahill seems to be taking a lifetime to return would anybody like to speculate as to who will provide any sort of goal threat ?
Yakubu will never get used to the way we play due to having to chase lost causes hammered forward by whoever you would care to name. With the obvious exception of Arteta.
Speaking of Arteta, he looks decidedly unhappy and I think Moyes should try and get the January window postponed until the end of the season !
I suppose it will be Victor again. The poor sod runs his blood to water most games without any kind of service whatsoever.
I have not yet mentioned McFadden as I am still to be convinced that he has got what it takes. But I would be delighted to be proved 100% wrong.
Then again I am sure our wonderful manager will confound us all by playing an attacking formation, 4-3-3 ?, and beating the shite with ease.
The last paragraph was a bit of irony !

Whats the rumoured take over you mention, being from the far side of the known world its hard to hear these rumours.
10 Posted 08/10/2007 at 03:59:08
With no decent midfield we are not going to create chances or dominate the middle of the field....or feed the forwards, with no midfield we are going to put more pressure on the defense (it?s baffled me why defensively we?re struggling this year compared to last). I think it speaks volumes for how poor we are when Lescott is the top goalscorer, good for him yes (and nothing to complain about...we need goals from everywhere) but Johnson, McFadden, Yakubu, Anichebe should all have more goals than a defender...am I wrong?
Osman is inconsistent and lightweight, McFadden is either crap or brilliant, Pienaar shows potential but it?ll take time, the team can?t support both Neville and Hibbert at the same time, Yakubu (even if he comes good) was NOT worth what we paid for him...especially when that same money could/should have been spent on the midfield, Yobo is apparently off form, Arteta too?
Anyway, all I?m saying is that the team desperately needs those injured to be back in the team... I think only then can we truly judge how good or bad the team is this season. There?s still time to get back up the table, we?re still in the League Cup with every chance of being in the QF?s and we?re in the group stage of the UEFA Cup........so it could be worse!
I hope that once the team is back up to full strength then things will be much improved.
One last note.........I?m the one that got the surprise trip back home for my birthday... I went to the Villa game and to be honest it was very disappointing...... actually both teams played crap (my friend who went with me supports the Villa and he was really pissed off at their display and they won!!)...... I thought the support from the Everton fans (although heavily outnumbered) was utterly fantastic though.... good on ya Toffee-fans!
11 Posted 08/10/2007 at 04:38:28
I don?t blame Yakubu, Anichebe, Johnson, and McFadden for not scoring as they are having to feed on crumbs. Most of the time when they get possession of the ball, they have to contend with 2-3 defenders on their own because they are so isolated from the midfield. I?m absolutely gutted at the moment. Bits of luck and individual brilliance have papered over the cracks until now, but how long is it before the wall starts caving in? Hope the return of Cahill and Gravesen will steady the ship.

I would have made a lot of decisions differently from Moyes but you can’t argue with his results. Well you can if you’re always looking for something to moan about:
We have gone from fighting relegation for 15 years to being in Europe translates as "Well it’s because of the investment not him and anyway we haven’t done anything in Europe"
We have attracted and kept Cahill, Lescott, Arteta and Howard translates as "His transfers have been hit and miss".
We finished top 6 last year and top 4 a couple of years before that becomes "We still play hoofball and the defenders sometimes make mistakes"
No-one enjoys losing and no-one is pretending that Moyes is perfect and never makes a bad call but to slag him off as if he is dragging the blues down rather than having saved them from drowning is to my mind an almost masochistic determination to recognise the difference between where we are today and where we were under Dome 3 and Smith.

The silver lining from yesterday’s match is that our midfield was beginning to show that they can hold on the to ball and not give away the ball foolishly.
Our only problem yesterday was defence:
First Goal : Lescott giveawar
Second Goal : Osman giveaway
Third Goal : Yobo caught watching.
We are losing because we are giving goals away. How many goals can we keep scoring if we keep giving goals away?
Crap, our defence this year is crap. I think we need to bench Yobo for good as he is the one making most of the mistakes.
Surprisingly, Tony Hibbert and Leighton Baines played decently yesterday. Tony’s passes was not perfect but he did make a decent cross to anichebe which was cleared off the line.
and Baines set up Johnson’s goal.
For the first time this season, a game which we should’ve drawn was lost because of defensive faults.
I think Yobo is not ready to play again. We should try putting Jageilka there.

21 Posted 08/10/2007 at 09:08:06
For reasons best known to the management we still seem to be bypassing the midfield. None of the top four teams from the past few seasons do this. Admittedly this sometimes leads to a fairly slow build up but, obviously, produces results !
I can only agree with Terry regarding the scouting system. Wenger picks up bargains on a weekly basis and we continue to waste money.
I also agree with Terry about McFadden. He has been very good the last couple of games but how long will this last ? Or even will it last ?
I am not anti Moyes but some of the things he does do defy belief. I did not see the Newcastle game but I believe he sent McFadden out for the second half and subbed him after a minute or two ! Why ?
He then bought Yakubu on in the 90th minute. This sounds like a bit of Beattie treatment to bring him into line. This did not work with Beattie and will not work with Yakubu.
Under Moyes we will never see the likes of the School of Science. There is more chance of me winning the Lottery !

A dumb post by a fickle, knee jerk, Blue - were you calling for his head on Thursday? After our 3rd straight win????
So called Blues who post shite like this get on my tits! Get a grip of yourself & stop over reacting everytime we get beaten.

Lets see, we will not win the uefa and top six? i think it will take a miracle of an effort considering the teams that have now stepped up 2 or 3 gears (Man City, Villa, Blackburn,) and tott will come good and newcastle and portsmouth could be there or there abouts and if at the end of thbe season, we have not won a domestic cup (which on recent form is a distinct possibility) we will no longer be in europe, another yo-yo season!!!
Don’t get me wrong, I am not a Moyes hater, and i wished he would do well, but the facts are there.
Pros:
1. We no longer have to worry about relegation (well we did have that one season under him).
2. We have some good young players coming through, Baines, Vaughan, Victor etc.
3. We have been given hope hope of sorts in actually achievng something.
Cons:
1. We play for the most part awful crap hoofball football.
2. Moyes tactically is probably the equivalent of 16th place in the Prem.
3. He continues to to play the wrong players when it is so abvious to all of us thousands and thousands of evertonians that they are wrong.
4. His scouting network seems to be shit.
5. As someone has pointed out in this post already, Moyes has had near 6 years to nget us playing good football and Sven has had a handfull of games to do that and turn a crap footballing team around.
Like i said, i did not want him to fail, but if we are going to be continually let down when our hopes are up time after time then what do we have to lose by changing manager??
Is there really much difference to finishing 15th to finishing 6th if we are going to play shit football and go out of all the cups (uefa inc).
I will give him until the beginning of the new year and see where we are up to then.
26 Posted 08/10/2007 at 10:38:05
" I will give Moyes until January and then assess the situation’...
Who the feck are you...Bill Kenwright ?
To all the other doom-mongers. One defeat after three wins and its relegation form...you wazzocks !
Two wins on the bounce and it will be top five again.
Evertonians...the biggest bunch of whining pricks on the planet !
27 Posted 08/10/2007 at 10:49:03
Oh and by the way i did not say i was a moyes basher i thought i made that point quite clear on more than one occassion, i just feel that this is as good as it gets and YES i will assess/look/evaluate/weigh up/gauge the situation in jan as i am trying to give him a chance (more chances!! to prove me wrong and i really really hope he does, but it is not looking likely is it!!!!!!

Tom Sullivan Quote: "If West Ham win their game in hand then Everton will be in the bottom half of the table after 9 games".
And you truly believe that this is enough to put Moyesys head on the block? Firstly you can’t work in if’s and but’s when assessing football simply because IF West ham lose and IF Everton win there next three we will all be singing Moyes’ praises again.
We are not the finished article, that’s obvious and at times Moyes frustrates me, but look at where we were when he took over? We have come a long long way. Yes we’ve had set backs with the good season followed by a bad season thing and things have been poor at times.
I truly believe that although not perfect, Moyes is the right man for the job. We have to look at the positives sometimes as well as the negatives. We are no longer a selling club. Under walter Smith how long do you think the likes of Arteta would have stayed at the club? Now we have him and Cahill on long contracts. This is just one example of course. Moyes knows we need more, but please wait until Cahill and Grav are back. We will also have vaughan to call upon. I think when our midfielders are back we will also see why Yakubu is worth 11.5 mil. We need more players, that obvious, but if we can keep what we’ve got and persevere and then add one or two more to the squad along the way I think we can safely say that we are improving.
To all the Moyes haters, try to remember how it was before he came??!!
We’re not ready to be title contenders, nor will we be next season, but this is a very long process, especially when you’ve only got BK’s wallet and chequebook to guide you! Kepp going Moyesy, the majority are behind you!

I refered to Match report by Lyndon Lloyd. From previous reports by Lyndon, all can agree that he is very objective.
And surprisingly, the report on yesterdays game wasn’t that bad after all.
It shows that yesterday’s game was not a shoe in for Newcastle.
I conclude that we lost the game yesterday due to repeated mistakes by our defenders and Osman.
Barring all the msitakes, we could’ve possibly nicked the game.
We created bona fide chances too, Anicebhe was denied twice, even McFadden came close.
That shows that yesterday we were not push overs.
Moyes needs to get the defence to buck up. Punish those who makes mistakes harshly, put YOBO back on the bench as a lesson to all.
Try Phil Jageilka in RB or CB or FB positions.
Neville and Carsley is beginning to click and lets savour the partnership. But i still feel Arteta should be moved back to the middle of the park.
Or pull Neville back to RB and put Arteta back in the center to partner Carsley. Let Pinnear go to right midfield and Osman on the left.
Leighton Baines has proven himself well. He’ll be able to support Osman in case Osman screw up.
THERES JUST TOO MANY MISTAKES DONE IN THE DEFENCE. SOME HEADS MUST ROLL FOR THIS.
DAMN DAMN DAMN

37 Posted 08/10/2007 at 11:54:59
Sack him, he is obviously a waste of space and will never give us the flair of Gazza and Ginola, in fact why did he get rid of Gemmil and Pembridge, absolute shocker of a manager.
Bring back Walter "Dissapointed" Smith, we would take over the world
38 Posted 08/10/2007 at 11:55:08
Anybody who thinks that Osman, Stubbs, Carsley, Neville, Hibbert, Jagie-Angel, Yakubu etc can cut it at this level and this footbal club knows f*ck all about the game
------------------------------------------
I would suggest that man is you.
Yakubu not fit to play at this level???? Do me a favour - & how you can dis Stubbs, Carsley & Neville as not being fit to wear the shirt - you’re a disgrace - Everton FC doesn’t need whinging, doom mongers like you IMO.
You’ve got the right to say what you like - but most would say you’re talking utter shite!
39 Posted 08/10/2007 at 11:57:16
defence and strikers are fine enough , but the midfeild is the most un-everton midfeild i can rememeber.
arteta , cahill and gravesen are adequate but im sorry to say i think the rest are pathetic and bottom of the prem standard at best.
osman , carsley , neville , vdm , vidaarsson , da silva ... all a bunch of huff and puff non exciting j, derby county standard players.
i also have to say i absolutly hate the way we play football this season. its dull to say the least and not of a standard i appreciate.
i know that if this is the standard of team and play that moyes will will provide in the future then honestly he can move on as far as im concerned.
40 Posted 08/10/2007 at 11:56:03
Alex Ferguson made a good point about MOYES ( he is a manager building for tomorrow not today )
in this premiership there is no easy game anybody is capable of winning anybody!
moyes is the best thing to happen to everton! for the simple fact a few years ago we would go to Newcastle away and expect defeat now you calling for moyes head because we got beat he already done big things for us and more to come!!! need gravo in midfield

Agree completely with your comments, and Michael - I thought th ewhole point of the forum was so that people can express their opinions, not just so they can post opinions you agree with.
Moyes almost certainly won’t go in the near future, because of Bill Kenwright’s loyalty, but that’s not a reason for fans who feel so inclined to express the opinion that he should do.
We don’t only call for his head after defeats - most of us calle dfor it after the deep embarrassment of robbing Metallist last week.

Firstly, AJ. Made a big difference when he came on and he scored a good poacher’s goal. Also clear that he’s been carrying injuries. Now maybe we can get off the back of one of our true class players. We will miss him in the Derby.
Secondly, McFadden. Still as much of a headless chicken as a boy wonder. Had to be take off at half time because he was giving away so much possession. Still in my view best played as a super sub.
Thirdly, Carsley. He did strengthen us defensively, making it all the more mysterious that he wasn’t played (or brought on) on Thursday. But he’s getting on! Desperate need for new defensive mid in January, with Cars as his understudy.
Fourthly, Joey Yobo. Clearly the lad is out of sorts (maybe injured still?). Cut him some slack, he is class and this is temporary. But I would expect to see Stubbs back for the Derby. Maybe all Joey needs is a bit of a break.
But it is alarming that Moyes’ famed defensive solidity has gone. Obviously he doesn’t understand it either. Perhaps that previously we’ve relied more than we thought on Stubbs and Carsley, and now they are getting past it?
48 Posted 08/10/2007 at 12:23:04
Clearly some people have forgotten their history - what was our position when DM took over ?
How far did the Champions Leage and the UEFA Cup look then ? Quite a long way I would have thought. If anyone had suggested in March ’02 that in 3 years time we would have qualified for the Champions League - I think there would have been a suggestion of calling for the blokes in the white coats!!
Yes it’s frustrating when we lose- especially when we are giving away daft goals. Yes it’s frustrating when we see Man City and Portsmouth doing so well. Yes Sven has changed things around at Man City - do you think the 50 or so million he was given to spend might have helped matters there ?
Yes Harry has got a good side there at Fratton Park - but hasn’t he got some Foreign Bloke with millions backing him ? I think that might help him in his team building.
Unlike some managers DM has played down the injuries we have had - take the likes of Cahill and Gravesen out of most sides and they would have problems.Lets not forget Arteta has missed several games and even our Wessels - in for the injured Howard- finished the Sheff Wed game with his head bandaged !!!
i am not saying that injuries have been to blame for all our defeats - but that we have had more than most teams.
Also looking at the table 10th doesn’t look good - but have a closer look, aren’t we only 3 points off 4th place? Personally speaking I think the only league table that matters is the one after 42 games - er sorry showing my age there !!! - 38 games and not 8 games
Lets start putting things into perspective and show some acknowledgement of what DM has achieved.I haven’t agreed with all of his signings or all of his tactics - but for goodness sake lets give the bloke some credit and lets cut him some slack.
49 Posted 08/10/2007 at 12:39:50
You talk about Eriksson turning City around in 3 months against Moyes turning us slowly into a secure Premiership side in 5 1/2 years? First of all, I’ve never seen Moyes spend £50m in one transfer window, nor have I seen Eriksson be successful when he hasn’t had a shoestring budget to operate. The two situations are a complete contrast. To compare them is ludicrous at best, possibly even downright naive.
Against the tactics, I will hold my hand up as a "pro-Moyes"-er and say that the tactics he appears to employ aren’t the best. But, Moyes as a player was a old fashioned no-nonsense centre half, so I expect that at the very least from his tactical point of view. But also, it appears we tried to play a little bit on Sunday (according to Lyndon in the match report) so I half believe the tactics are due to the ability level of his players that he’s got available. Once Gravesen, Cahill and Vaughan come back I would expect us to try and play on the deck a bit more.
Kiki Sanchez, without wanting to cause offence, but West and Okocha have both retired, if not they are both 35+. West was terrible at best in the Premiership and shouldn’t even be considered.
With regard to our league position, we might be 10th but a defeat this week meant we dropped to 5th. It just shows how tight the league is at this stage of the season - it’s still early days and we have the best chance available to go through to the quarter-finals of the League Cup for the first time in 20 years. We will still be in Europe in December for the first time in 22 years - we have three key players to come back from injury - I would hope that people can only see the Newcastle defeat in the light that we obviously have a tired squad who’ve just play 4 games in 11 days, and that mentally they are a bit knackered - as opposed to physically. We weren’t at our best on Sunday and I expect us to be better and up for it more next Saturday in the derby - when the players have had a long rest

into the later stages of a european competition for the first time in 22 years.
Cahill, Johnson, graveson,Vaughn,Howard injured for long periods..
New players like Jagielka,Yakubu and Baines not yet settled in..
3 points off 4th spot..
i woke up yesterday morning and found we were above spurs,Chelsea, portsmouth, and westham,
I havent enjoyed all the football so far this season...but neither have the mancs, the shite, spurs, the hammers...The reason for the mancs was they missed Rooney and Ronaldo...but suddenly they are second in the league...
We will get our players back, we will play better..and we will be glad that we manged to kepp ourselves in the upper half of the tablle and in all the cups with half our 1st team missing or carrying injuries...
Try to enjoy it..because sometimes you get what you wish for..and for those of you tht wish for Moyes head..you may well get it but you might not enjoy the alternative..
Under mike walker we never put a cross in because we played it on the deck all the time, we couldnt tackle, we couldnt score or defend and we were bottom.yes rock bottom of the league..twice under walter smith the last result of the season kept us up..and once under HK.
I am not accepting second best , merely realistically stating that it takes time to go from bottom to top without the same funding Man utd, Arsenal, Chelsea and the shite have...some had said before we actually did it that it was impossible to break the "big 4 monopoly"...so we came 4th..some of you fools dont realise the huge achievement that was..Now the whole team is David Moyes team..so let us judge them at the end of the season..not after 10 games..be honest, if in 2001 we were 3 points off 4th and in all the cups including europe you would all be wanking for joy..NSNO..it applies to the fans as well

It’s an age-old tactic that whenever there’s a Derby coming up, you get loads of beauts invading our message boards - I will admit to having done a spot of Kopite baiting on theirs in the past - and it looks like they are targeting Toffeeweb this time around, so try not to bite. It’s usually the spelling that gives them away.

But apparently not. Ask yourself, Do you really need to come on this site spouting this stuff because, true though your basic points may be, and poor though the football is, we all should know by now (surely to God!?) ... MOYES IS GOING NOWHERE!!!
Please, FFS, and for my sanity... GIVE IT A REST!
