How hard can it be?

Some fans have a right go if you dare question Moyes' tactical ability as a coach. But I was thinking that after 5 yrs Moyes has us playing some of the shittest football in the prem, and not just this season, but for the last few as well. The usual suspects blame the lack of cash Moyes has to spend, the injuries.

My point is that I was talking to my other half last night (she's a Man Utd fan) about the type of football we play, and we got onto Man City and how well they are doing. That got me thinking, Erickson has been at Man City for 5 minutes, bought some players who no-one had ever heard of and has got them playing some of the best football in the prem this year.

My question is, how can Erickson get a team playing great football in a matter of months, but Moyes can't do it after 5 years? A goldfish for the first person to mention the money side.

You bring in 9-11 players who are all technically excellent players, utilise a bit of british steel you already have at the club. Train the players to play a certain way (in citys case it is a fast passing positive style of play) and then hope that the players go out and do as you tell them every game they play.......which, to be fair, they have. So Far

We, on the other hand have brought in more workmanlike players over flair & technique players & we train to run down the opposition, defened well(I know, i know) & take our opportunities when they arise.

It is down to the managers style & preference of play, I believe that Sven is one of the most tactically astute & best club managers in europe also a lot of luck. Thats not too mention Sven himself has said he was scouting players before the start of the last world cup ready for his return to management, I also wouldn’t worry too much as a lot of these players (Elano, Geovanni, Petrov, Bianchi) will die off as the season goes on, down to the fact they are not used to playing so many games at such a high tempo.

Sorry for the length of reply, thats what I think anyway.

The simple answer Brian? The man is literally clueless. If a team has equllised or just gone ahead and we are on the telly,if the camera pans in on him, look at his face,he is panic stricken,he just doesn’t know what the hell to do! At least Walter Smith for all his faults knew what he wanted to do,but he had a pathetic RS chairman to put up with, and was given very litle money as well.In five years time if Moyes is still here,we will still be watching the same old shite, and having to listen to his merry old quips of wisdom. oGod help us all!

Ok Brian, I win the goldfish.

Sven has spent over £50m in the close season and he must be a fantastic scout for talents, as he watches the bideos of players he wants.

Sven has been the manager of England, league winning sides so why are you comparing Moyes to him? Shall we compare Moyes to Ferguson and the Fat Spanish Waiter also?

Yes Moyes is tactically naive and we have endured some attrocious football of late but when it comes down to it he has made Everton a team that is usually hard to beat and and has managed European football twice in the last 3 years, not bad for an apparant brain dead, inept manager.

Brian.
Don’t you get it yet ? It’s results that matter.
Open, flowing, passing, attacking football with flair is not what some people want.
It’s results.
If we can get a result by blindly hoofing the ball upfield, then that’s ok.
They keep telling you ! Stop whinging, we won didn’t we ?
Some people are never happy they tell you.
So just be happy that we are mediocre and play shit football that’s as entertaining as watching paint dry.
Remember ! it’s RESULTS THAT COUNT !

What I want to know is if Sven is so f-ing clever why couldn’t he do it with the England team with a wide range of players to choose from!!

Totally agree with Dave, the era of the School of Science is in the past. If our boys go out there and shoot the opposition -who gives a tin whistle once they get the three points. Besides which, the majority of teams go through periods of playing poor football (Arsenal most notably) and personally I think we are still experiencing a transition at the club. I know its been 5 years of harsh football but when you think of how bad things had gotten at the club from the nineties onwards, its not surprising that our recovery has been methodical. I believe in David Moyes and I believe as this season progresses and the forthcoming seasons, our status and style of play will improve under him. To let David Moyes go (which isnt going to happen anyway) would be akin to club suicide.

Ps- I’ve watched Liverpool play many times this and last season and their style of play is no kinder on the eye than ours

Tony Williams, you eopitomise everything that is wrong with our club, and why Moyes and Kenwright will remain gainfully employed at Everton for many years to come. Your excuses for the manager are truly pathetic. Have a word with yourself.

Ok Gareth care to elaborate on that pretty ridiculous statement?

What excuses have I given? I have merely pointed out that comparing the two managers in the initial post is a daft way to go about slagging off Moyes. I have given my reasons why, care to give me a reason why I "eopitomise" everything that is wrong with Everton?

Tony,I wasn’t having a dig at Moyes with the post. It’s just that I don’t think he is as good a manager as some people lead us to believe. The point comparing him to Erickson was that while Pearce was in charge at City they were fucking woeful and the club was in a bit of a mess.Erickson comes in and within a few months he has them playing great football and winning games. He has taken them from being a shite side to a very good footballing side in a few months.Moyes has been here over 5 yrs and though the club has come forward (at a snails pace)his type of football is excruciating to watch. That’s why I say he isn’t as good a manager as some fans would have us think.Maybe I am being a bit harsh on Moyes comparing him to Sven, because Svene is a quality manager,Who has won things with most of the clubs he has been with.
And I know it’s the results that matter, but I don’t know how more I can take of me saying to myself(even when we win)that was fucking shite, again.

Agreed Brian, I possibly come off as Pro-Moyes and in a sense I am. Yes he is mind numbingly frustrating with his tactics at times and hasn’t a clue with subs from time to time but I can honestly say that the thought to get shut of him has ever crossed my mind this season.

We have played crap all season, even the Spuds game was pretty dire watching at times but it says something that we are playing poorly and still doing ok points wise, we are only 1 point down on the corresponding fixyures of last season.

I know Moyes has so much to learn but I for one am happy that he will get a chance to learn them here at our great club.

The Fernandes saga done us in a bit, hence the late signing of Mad Dog, Motes wants skillful players in the midfield and I am gutted that our better players cannot get a game through injury.

Gone off the point a bit but I will support Everton and that includes supporting our manager, whomever that may be (unless it is Mike Walker, of course) at any given time.

It’s all part of the general malaise that infests Everton. I had sympathy for Moyes for a long time as we had/have a board that failed to raise the necessary transfer funds. We seem to be making do with a cut price ground costing a quarter of that paid by most others. When we do manage to find the required money we continue to cock-up the rest of the transfer. We can’t get match tickets in the post on time, paid up supporters are left on the tarmac and we seem incapable of selling our own merchandise or finding anyone else who can. The list goes on and on and yet we seem to think that amongst all this dross the one thing that will stand out is the marvellous Trophy winning football that seems to go to those clubs which also get the rest right and have the confidence to make the big decisions for themselves. The goldfish should go to the person who thinks it is the money alone but anyone seeing where the real blame lies should get the water and bowl as well.
