We all love our team

Comments (11)

Just been listening to our cup final song of '95 and hearing the commentary of the semi-final goals against Spurs brought wonderful memories flying back. Also, I know that every single one of us has the hairs at back of neck stand up whenever we hear Z-Cars. I like this site and I love my Everton, and debate is very good, after all we are all entitled to an opinion. But it is SO wrong on match day to hear fans moaning whenever certain players get the ball. After all, at home matches, the crowd are supposed to be an extra man. I urge each and every one of you fortunare enough to go on Saturday, to totally get behind the team, not to shout abuse because McFadden loses possession, not to groan whenever Hibbo gets the ball, but to actually SUPPORT every player that is priveleged to wear that blue shirt.

Far too often I've been at Goodison lately and seen fans turn on the team and especially certain players. Reserve the right for criticism to these forums.

I have no idea whether Moyes can improve our fortunes further, but I do say a huge thank you to him for transforming us from a regular relegation-battle side to one that actually competes with the top half. Yes, I want better. Yes, I want more and yes the standard of football is awful. But sacking Moyes could be a disaster for the club ? remember how happy we all were when Mike Walker got the job?

I don't know where we're going, and I'm still unsure about Kirkby, but i do know that I love Everton Football Club, always will. They are my life. And I know that 99% of contributors to this site feel the same. So please, I beg you all, just get behind the team. I genuinely believe we are getting there, but when injuries and squad rotation happen, we do need to get behind EVERY player, whether its Arteta, Cahill, McFadden, Hibbert, AJ or McFadden. These guys cannot perform with the crowd against them.

3 points on Saturday, please God! Nil Satis

I agree to a certain point that we must get behind our team but that doesn’t mean we should just accept it if a player or the team are playing badly. Everton have set the standards we expect from them since the team of the 80’s. Now I know we are no where near that wonderful side; but that doesn’t mean that we cannot demand that the team tries to achieve to that level of success. Every fan no matter what team they support must demand the best from their players or what’s the point. Teams like Bolton and Wimbledon, in the past, achieved success because they didn’t sit back and accept mediocrity. So yes I will shout at Phil N when he misplaces a pass or Hibbert when he plays a long ball in the air up to Johnson. CYB

You dont think Wimbledon accepted mediocrity but you will still shout at Hibbert for playing a long ball. Bit of a contradiction there Trevor.

David the 95 song gets to me every time too. Moyes should whack that on before Saturday.

Yeh but it worked for them 2 a point they played to there strengths are u telling me that long ball football is our strength i don’t think johnson’s going to win many headers. The main point i’m making is that from semi-pros they became a premiership team they didn’t accept that they were just a semi-pro team and they could never make it in the top flight

These are sportsmen who are required to perform for only 90 minutes a week and who finish their careers as multi millionaires. To say that they should be beyond reproach is questionable. Like you, I have never seen the merit in directing verbal abuse at players during a game as it’s a pointless exercise and would clearly effect their performance; furthermore, players like Hibbitt will always be substandard. I would however, vent my feelings at a Manager who with a 70 million pound budget has, during his 6 year tenure, consistently served up shite, defensive football while playing players out of position.

What a load of tosh, you should be thankful for David Moyes.

Fact mate ...not tosh.
It’s so sad that genuine lifelong Evertonians who attempt to uphold the traditions of Everton Football Club, based on entertaining football , are continually abused on this site for daring to criticise the ugly brand of football encouraged by our curent manager.

Trevor I didnt say that we should play long football, I as merely pointing out your contradiction.

However, on the long ball it does have its place in the game. Man Utd, probably the most attractive football playing team in Britain (when in full flow and on their day), one of the best in Europe. If you watch them, particularly in the Champs League they often play long ball.

We do not have our best Midfield at the moment, and when your midfield isnt the best at make chances then why us them I suppose

Steve move with the times. The current Management are working to get the club where they were in the eighties, they have stop us from being the club we were then. Bad management at Board and squad level since the decision was made to allow Howard Kendall to go to spain took Everton football club right down the pecking order.
Bad decisions have been made by the current regime also but I dont think anyone can say that the position of Everton has not been improved by them.
With this comes the style of football. We do not have 11 players who are all of a quality to play "SEXY" football consitently. We are still being built and developed.
The fact we have pleayers who can play football (Arteta, AJ, Cahill, Lescott, Baines etc) many of whom other clubs want shows we have improved since the 90s and early 00s.
The fact we are not having to sell these players as soon as people decide they want them shows we have improved.
The fact that we are buying England Internationals and potential internationals rather than as soon as one of our players gets called up we sell them shows we have improved.
I can go on. We are a team on the up who are still improving and have been improving bit by bit for a number of years.
We must continue to be patient and the "Sexy" football will come again.

While were reminiscing about the hazy days of 1995 I can clearly remember dancing around my sisters garden in plymouth after a bottle and half of lambrusco after the televised quarter final win over Newcastle. Dave watson didnt get many goals for us but the ones he did contibute were always in important games. Unfortunately after the subsequent semi and final victories there hasnt been much to get excited about.

The other point I wanted to make is that I can't stand the Z-Cars theme. There must be other fans out of there that share this sentiment. Couldn't we have some other mersey related song to come out to - something more uplifting ? like Frankies two tribes or eleanor rigby by the fab four. I support Everton ? i don't love them but they are a part of my life. Its been to long since we have won nothing. Its way overdue that we rectify that. Whether moyes is the man to do just that remains to be seen but its going to be interesting.

Wow, Jane, that’s amazing you had the balls.... er, strike that! ... to admit you don’t like the Z-Cars theme. It is a bit sappy, I have to admit. War by Frankie would be ace. But we had to guess this evening who did "You spin me right round..." Yes, one-hit wonders Dead or Alive ? from Liverpool! Now that has to be the perfect song for Everton under David Moyes!

Sorry Jane to disagree, but the Z-cars theme makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I wish we would not associate it with Z Cars - it is a very old Liverpool sea shanty and that’s the way I think of it, for a very old royal blue team..
