Silva lining

Comments (12)

I read Barnsley chairman Simon Davey's recent comments on Anderson Silva de Franca with interest: "He has improved us as he brings a Brazilian flair with a European workrate".

Doesn't that sound like exactly what our team is missing at the moment? I'm not suggesting that he's the answer to our long-term problems and is probably not a replacement for Fernandes but I'd really love to see him step out for us sometime soon.

We went to such great lengths to secure his signature a few years back that it seems strange that our Davey doesn't seem to want to give him a go. Either that or he just believes that some game time in the Championship is exactly what he needs to prepare him for the second half of our busy campaign ? I truly hope it's the latter.

Against Werder Bremen I thought he was one of the best players on the pitch. I also saw him play at Crystal Palace in pre-season and he looked solid if not spectacular (although everybody was playing at 75% to be fair).

Let's get the boy back and see what he can do in the Carling Cup game against Luton!

I would love to see Da Silva do well at Everton but judging by the pre-season performances - there’s no chance.

Technically very good but not strong enough to own the midfield and passing wasnt great either.

Lets hope I’m wrong.

We went through all that shit to get his signature, and he gets 5 mins as a replacement! Sounds like a classic Kroldrup scenario, Davey needs some new scouts. If he is the best player at Barnsley, surely he could be an effective squad player for us, but maybe Davey plans to bring him back, and loaning him out was all part of his masterplan to get him playing, and his fitness up?? Ummm, interesting...

There was nothing seriously wrong with his passing.

But he needs to settle into the English game and with the reserve league fucked up big time, a loan is the only real way to do it.

Peter,Da Silva could have adjusted to the prem by coming of the bench for us (he couldn’t have done any worse than Jags and Neville).I just don’t see how playing in a league that is miles behind the prem in quality will help him.If he ever comes back to us,he will have to adjust to the step up in quality that he will face in the prem. The only way he would be able to do that is actually playing in the prem, not in a sub-standard championship.I’ve said before,he has been another of Moyes’ baffling signings.

Brian,
Loaning players out to the Championship to give them playing time and gain game experience is common practice. This isn’t something that is Everton or Moyes esclusive. He was loaned out because he was down the pecking order for central midfielders. We had Carsley, Gravesen, Neville, Jagielka who had all played there in the Prem for at least a full season. Saying that he couldn’t have done any worse that Jags is easy to say now, but none of us knew a month ago that Jags would struggle there for us. He played well last season wherever he was asked to play, and had looked good there in his first couple of games where he came off the bench. Players do go through patches of poor form, which I believe is what is happening to Jagielka at the moment. At the moment I wish we did have Da Silva available, but playing 90 minutes every game as opposed to perhaps getting a few minutes off the bench for us is better for his development.

I think that DM should give him a shot and hopefully loaning him out to Barnsely is just to get his match fitness and sharpness up.

With the UEFA Cup ties looming and whole heap of games ahead, having one more option in midfield would not be such a bad idea.

Furthermore, if he had played in La Liga with Racing S, he couldn’t be that bad right? Also he should provide us with a contential flavour which we sorely miss in Europe.

Shez.......Technically very good but not strong enough to own the midfield and passing wasnt great either.

And Nev and Jags are good enough to own the midfield??????

I think the boy is gaining experience in english football. His loan ends soon (at the end of the month i think) and he is then unable to back to barnsley again until January. I think we may well see a bit of him for everton in the coming weeks - whether he is good enough we will have to wait and see.

Peter Singer got it spot on with his remark about the reserves league. In days of yore a player could get match fitness and confidence back by playing regularly on a Saturday afternoon in the Central League.

I remember going to Goodison reserves matches in the sixties and seeing some great games with top name players. I can recall a time when Harry Catterick was breaking up the team that had players like Young, Vernon, Gabriel etc. and bringing in players like Harvey, Wright and Hurst. A lot of the older players were in the reserves and often drew quite large crowds.

Ideally we could do with a strong second squad league - it would also give kids a chance to go to the game without having to pay ridiculous entrance fees.

Ive never seen the boy (no pun intended) play, not even on match of the day so i cant really comment. There are other squad memebrs i know of but have yet to see in action so i cannot pass judgement. That vidjarsson is he any good? Only about seventeen i think. Hopefully moyes may do a "wenger" and put out a youth team at kenilworth road. A good time to blood some young talent. There must be another Francis Jeffers or Cadamarteri on our books who is waiting to break into the first team. Give donkeys such as - no names to avoid embarrassment - the night off at luton and give the youngsters a chance to shine.

I don’t know what pre season games you saw Shez but he was the best player on the park at the three games I went to. Especially Preston. He is out on loan to give him the strength and presence to cope with the premiership. Moyes knows what he is doing, most of the time.
