Everton 1 - 0 Liverpool [40']

Comments (47)

Baines on the bench, Hibbert at right back with Stubbs in the middle, Jagielka, Neville and Osman in midfield. Yakubu and Anichebe up front with McFadden, Pienaar, Carsley joining Baines on the bench.

Not an expected line-up to say the least, and after a rough start.. it seems to be working!!! Thank you Sami baby!!!

[Having some technical trouble updating the match report!]

Here we go again!!

Hibbert’s challenge sums up his season (at least it’ll be 3 games before he puts a shirt on again) and then Clattenburg doesnt give a penalty at the other end for a shirt tug on Lescott, but hey we’re a small team after all so we dont get those decisions.......bet Rafa never mentions that after the game!!

Who will play right back now? We should have had a penalty. Mcfadden did more with his 3 or 4 touches than Yakubu had the whole match. It’s going to be difficult to care about league play for awhile unless we can go unbeaten...for A LOT of games.

The red were shit, and could have easily had more goals, though in the end the result wasn’t fair.

what did the cunt say to the referee? "I will give you x amount of money if you send him off?"
The referee was clearly going to show Hibbo yellow card until that cunt talked to him.

So fucking angry, cannot stand Gerrard and Beneathus!!!!

clattenburg is one dirty red cheating bastard he gave us fuck all , gave that diving twat gerrad a pen yet missed a blatant penalty in the last minute on us .what can teams like everton do when these fucking shithouse referees will not give vital desions against so called big teams. also that cunt gerrard told the ref to send off hibbert when he had a yellow card out the dirty red cunt

10   Posted 20/10/2007 at 14:57:26

Disgraceful. Regardless of debating the first penalty, regardless of Gerrard ’advising’ the referee and the sudden swapping of cards, there’s no doubt that we were done out of a clear penalty at the end.

The fat Spanish waiter got in his snide little post match comments... enjoy if while you can Rafa, because you sure as hell won’t be winning the league. Sour prick.

After the nonsense of Rob Styles having to apologise to Liverpool for the penalty he gave against Chelsea (apparently the first wrongly made decision in the history of the english game), then Clattenburk should be tucked away in his little room righting a hardback novel for us!

I’d also add that Jamie Redknapp can fuck right off as well. His post match analysis was a complete joke when judging the penalty incidents... funnier than anything that’s dribbled out of his mouth on Question of Sport ironically.

Oh well... UEFA Cup time thursday.

Watched in a pub in London full of red shite. Only good moment (apart from our goal) was when I asked them all at the end: "Any of you ever been to Liverpool then?" Silence.

Credit where credit is due, we played well and Moyes tactically outsmarted the fat waiter. Gerrard got Hibbert sent off, Kuyt should have got a straight red for his appalling challenge, and we were denied two stonewall penalties in the second half.

For once Everton should throw the book at Clattenburg. He should be refereeing women’s football for the rest of the season. A red in the pub told me, "We never lose when Clattenburg referees us".

Thought match fixing had gone out of the game in the last 5-10 years. Its obviously still rife. Gerrard clearly influenced the ref’s mind, Lescott should have had at least one penalty, Kuyt should have been sent off in trying to chop off Neville’s legs. Also, was it just me but was there lots of fouls not given on Anichebe/Yakubu when trying to hold the ball up before getting fouled, particularly in the 2nd half. Who will play right back as Hibbo and Neville will both be suspended for 3 games? Worst thing is you know nothing will happen about this bias. The FA will say nothing, the ref will admit nothing, the game won’t get replayed, Gerrard will get away with influencing the ref, Carragher will get away with having a go at the ref and Benitez will get away with calling Lescott a diver. Got no respect at all for Benitez now after his post match comments and little respect had for Gerrard has gone out of the window for getting a fellow pro sent off. Its us against the world now. COYB.

Many at the start of the season thought we’d challenge the top 4! Forget that! On the evidence of todays showing and the season so far it doesn’t look as though we have what it takes for another top 6 finish, the team is constantly leaking goals all over the show! The sooner replacements are found for Hibbert and Neville we might start moving in the right direction!

IN MY MIND...WE NEVER LOST THE GAME...WE WERE ROBBED
Im still fuming from all the swearing that i did during the game...I am proud of the way the lads played through all the fucking shit that Cuntenberg was serving us!
We started poorly but then settled in well and deserved the lead.
I was disappointed that we let em break leading to the penalty but what ensued after that was astonishing...there was no real contact on Gerrard and even that was outside the area...then that fucking Gerrard convinces the bastard to change the card to a red!
We go down the other end and we are denied a clear penalty...we battled well and even created a few good chances and looked like we had held out for the final whistle...
Then Neville is forced to handle the ball to deny the ball ending up inside the net(well done, for once!) and Howard was unlucky to not get more on the ball with the penalty...
Then we go down the other end and i stare at the screen as i see without a doubt, one of the most certain penalty claims in my life turned down by the fucking Cuntenberg...
Watching the red shite celabrating was sickening especially since they didnt win the game legally...Rafucker then has the nerve(but not the balls) to suggest they were the better team??? and that Lescott dived in the end???
Surely this proves that there is no justice in the game anymore....forget the apology from Cuntenberg....i hope that he suffers unthinkable things for the rest of his sick life...
What do we do at right back now that we have 2 sent off in the same game? Hope to see Cahill,Gravesen and Vaughn back soon...not sure how to cheer myself up after this one...

Jags will play right back. Benitez calling Lescott a diver after Owen’s dive. Moyes should call him a cheat. We should also officially complain against Kuyt’s challenge (like Gerrard’s on Naysmith a few years back) and get him banned for at least 3 games. And complain against Gerrard’s getting Hibbert’s card changed from yellow to red. Clearly conduct bringing the game into disrepute.

Anyway, at least console ourselves with this. The shite will win nothing this year because they are a rubbish team with a rubbish manager.

Kuyt won’t get banned for 3 games as Clattenburg gave him a yellow card during the game, which in the governing body’s eyes means that it has been dealt with.

As for Hibbert getting sent off, I think simply sending the FA a video of the England vs Russia game should prove that today’s incident certainly wasn’t a goal-scoring opportunity...

22   Posted 20/10/2007 at 15:54:05

Hibbert’s hesitation on the halfway line costed us for their first pen. He should of committed himself fully when the ball was hanging in the air and crunched the red shite who made the pass. You cannot get sent off if you committ a foul on the halfway line. I think we definitely had a case for a penalty in the end but at the end of the day, they probably should of scored 4 or 5 so we can’t really complain.
Lescott was our best player by far and I thought Jagielka put in an improved performance. Should give the Jag alot of confidence for the remainder of the season. With Nev and Hibbo suspended, atleast we’ll be able to see how the team performs with arguably two of our worst performers this season.

Did FIFA change the rules of the games recently? i thought 2 footed tackles especially at knee level is a straight red? and that impending opposition players in the box by having your arm around them and pulling them or impending then from the ball is a clear cut penalty ? or maybe it dont apply to "big" clubs especially if they are fucking liverpool?

surprisingly john burridge and super kev (match analysts where im watching) both agreed that cunt of a prick ref should be penalised like rob styles. i say banned him from the EPL for life!!!

someone said McF did in 15 minutes more than Yakubu did for 75 minutes, I have to disagree.

I think DM certainly didn’t make the right decision when he send McF out so late and took out Ani fairly quickly. I know he wanted to strengthen the defence, but McF only had a few minutes with a partner up front, he can’t do much, he is not God.

Nick,
they had many chances but most of them off target, so I don’t think we can console ourselves by saying they should have scored 4 or 5 so we should not complain too much.
The fact remains that, we WERE ROBBED. We might not deserve 3 pts, but they way the ref treated the shit and us so differently...

We may berate the refferee, I wanted to kill him, but in the end we were guilty for our loss.

D.Moyes insisted with playing Hibbert again, in the first half he made big mistake and we get away with it, he made another mistake and this time we were punished. He saw the ball bouncing and didnt know what to do,hence fast break....

It was clear that DNA was looking for penalty, after wednesday he would have been shot to death had he missed another chance. Hibbo either had to foul him outside and get send off or just leave him to shoot, in the end he got himself off and they got penalty.

Yakubu was another questionable selection, with McFadden brimming with confidence and having a good run, Moyes once again opted for the Nigerian and for 85min he has done nothing.McFadden is in 90% of the time liability but right now he has a goal in himself and he wasnt given a chance to prove his worth.

That said, I thought that we played great and didnt deserve to lose and for the upteenth time were hard done by the refferee

At least we have a new Clive Thomas. I would be a tad ashamed if an EFC captain bullied a ref into changing his card decision to get a player sent off. After Russia, I’m amazed Stevie fucking G would know what a goal-scoring opportunity was anyway. Carragher should have been yellowed for his utter disrespect and motormouth towards Clattenenburg. Any decent local pitch ref would have warned him once, carded him the second time and sent him off the third. As for Andy Gray on Sky... I know he was pissed off getting the heave-ho from Howard but that was over 20 years ago. He and Ian Darke-side are five fifths of fucking useless.

i think its blatantly obvious that the c**t of a ref has cost us the game, two blatant penalties for us, two red cards should have been given to them scummy b*****ds , hibbert should have done better for the goal(how many times is this gonna happen) GET THIS USELESS IDIOT OUT OF THE TEAM, HE IS A LIABILITY, anyway rant over.

I thought we played well and did’nt deserve that scoreline, everyone played well and ran their hearts out, gutted, absolutely gutted.

Yo Yo Moyes!!

Some terrible refereeing decisions with the Lescott penalties but I could not complain about both Liverpool pens. Hibbert was always going to dive-in and Neville did the rigt thing handling on the line.

We should have had two pens from fouls on Lescott but more than anything I am angry with Moyes.

Why was Baines and Carsley on the bench when Jags and Hibbert were on the pitch.

I’m sorry but Hibbert has been terrible all season and Neville is one of the best right-back’s in the country. Poor Carsley, I do not know what he has done wrong. I have never seen him have a bad derby but Moyes seems to have decided that Jags is a midfielder and he is wrong. I am hopeful that jags can come good but not in midfield.

And as for Yakubu, I see a January departure looming.

But for me we lost it with our team selection..........again.

What’s with the attacks on Yakubu? He put in a good hardworking stint, laid on a few chances, and nearly scored a screamer. I thought he had a good game, and Moyes’s decision to play both big guys upfront clearly unsettled Carracheat and co.

Agree with Neil, Yakubu played well, hard working. I remember once he robbed the ball of some redshit deep in our half and ran towards the other end and got stopped by a foul.

yakubu had a very good game, his best in an everton shirt, if anyone deserves criticism on the everton team then its HIBBERT, not yakubu, hibberts s***e defending cost us a goal and a player.
Michael Newton
35   Posted 20/10/2007 at 16:48:21

All was going well, then Hibbert hesitates fails to clear an easiy header in the centre circle, the RS breakaway and Hibbert fouls Gerrard as he doesnt have the pace to get in front of him. Off he goes and the sound of silence of the crowd as he left tells the story.
Despite this the ref fails to give Carragher a yellow card for blatant dissent which would of resulted in a 2nd yellow when he fouled Faddy. He fails to give Kuyt a straight red for a despicable two footed lunge which would of broke Neville in 2 and then even in the words of the most biased RS of all John Aldridge fails to give a a ’cast iron penalty’.
Clattenburg should be brought to account for these decisions as they were diabolical and should be immediately suspended by the FA.
As for Hibbert hopefully he will now be binned off for good by Moyes and Neville a permanent right back.
Why didnt Carsley play the last 10 mins when we needed a ball winner in the area in front of the back 4.
Daniel Lim
36   Posted 20/10/2007 at 16:52:47

Can Lescott play on the right? If he could, then he should play as the right wing back, and Baines on the left, for the next few matches until Neville is back. I see that Lescott was happy and confident to venture up front. Probably the goals have given him load of confidence. And I think he was dangerous too when he went up.
Neil Pearse
37   Posted 20/10/2007 at 16:54:58

Bit unfair criticising Moyes today. I questioned his selections before the game, but: Lescott had a blinder at left back; Jags looked good for once in midfield (more mobile than Carsley); Yakubu and Vic both had good games and caused them problems; and Stubbs was very solid at the back (and nice to see Yobo looking comfortable again). I think for once he got the tactics spot on. His only mistake (okay, a big one in the circumstances) was to play Hibbert. But the other selections worked.

38   Posted 20/10/2007 at 17:02:03

Besides playing Hibbert, DM also made a big mistake by only giving McFadden very little time, I think.

Jags will no doubt be at right back next week with Carlsley in midfield with Cahill or Gravesen.
I really find no words to describe Hibbert so i wont comment further other than to say he and the ref cost us a result
Neil Pearse
43   Posted 20/10/2007 at 17:14:45

Thanks Edwin - I agree on Osman. I wanted Pienaar instead of Osman before the game, but thought Osman actually was excellent today, even more dangerous than Mikel (who wasn’t bad).

The only reasons we lost are: Hibbert missed a challenge in the middle of the park; and the ref made half a dozen absolutely shocking decisions.
Mike Oates
44   Posted 20/10/2007 at 17:21:27

Few comments from today - we didnt deserve to lose but equally we never looked like scoring from open play . We very nearly ground out a draw if it wasnt for the poor refereiing decision, but you are always going to get poor decisions at some stages.
What worries me more than anything is our lack of creativity - Arteta really hasnt performed for weeks now and Osman was probably our best performer today. When we play Neville and Jags in the middle it means that both sit back , neither wants the ball off the back 4 , and it means they revert to the hoof up front (Beneathus is right here) and Arteta, Osman, Pinnear have to come inside to feed on scrap knockdowns. This means that the width has to come from the full backs and Hibbert doesnt do it , whereas Lescott or Baines can . We need someone to dictate the play from the back - otherwise we aint gonna win anything this season.

We are in desperate need to get Cahill, and Gravesen playing again and hopefully allowing Arteta some more space to work his magic out wide.

the defending for the 1st goal was atrocious and all 4 defenders are to blame for pushing up for the corner and getting caught out by the red shites break.we can moan over the 2 pens they got or the ones we didnt get or kuyts terrible 2 footed karate kick but at the end of the day we just wernt good enough today to get a result.we played well in spells but the return of our injured stars cant come soon enough.im gutted like everyone else on this site but we now move on and forget today and start to focus on our uefa adventure and start to get behind our team again
