This is what I wrote:
In tonight's programme, could you please analyse the following points that arose during today's Merseyside derby:
1. Did Hibbert foul Gerrard or did they both have their hands across each other?
2. If Hibbert did foul Gerrard, did this initially happen outside the area?
3. As Gerrard is at no point completely through on goal, did Hibbert deserve to be sent off?
4. Why did the ref change his mind and award Hibbert a red card instead of a yellow?
5. Were Everton unfairly denied two penalties?
6. Should Kuyt have been sent off for his two-footed lunge?
Finally, in respect of what appears to be not only an inept but, also, some would say, biased performance, should the ref be banned in the same way that Rob Styles was after the Liverpool ? Chelsea game? Or does that only happen when a so called 'top four' team have been on the wrong end of poor refereeing?
Thankyou.

1. They were both tussling yes, however if hibbert was going to bring him down he should have done it well before the box.
2. Yes
3. Based on the fact that the ref gave the foul the question is ’Did he deny a goalscoring opportunity and the answer is YES.Its the opportunity that was denied
4. This is the confusing one. ref did say to gerrard it was only a booking and did have the card out. Gerrard clearly mouths that he was going to shoot so the ref went ’ oh well now you have said that I will send him off stevie’
5. One was stone wall yes
6. Probably yes
We do need to look at the whole game and if it was the other way round we would have taken all that was given had it been on Yakubu for instance (did he get into those positions)

Holding an opponent includes the act of preventing him from moving past or around using the hands, the arms or the body.
Referees are reminded to make an early intervention and to deal firmly with holding offencesespecially inside the penalty area at corner kicks and free kicks.
To deal with these situations,
? the referee shall warn any player holding an opponent before the ball is in play
? caution the player if the holding continues before the ball is in play
? award a direct free kick or penalty kick and caution the player if it happens once the
ball is in play.
? If a defender starts holding an attacker outside the penalty area but continues holding
him inside the penalty area, the referee shall award a penalty kick.
So, if it started outside the area is irrelevant if the ref considered him to be holding still inside. Not saying that he did, just stating the rules.

In this case, why didn’t he just let Gerrard shoot with his left foot? He can’t even score (for England) with his right.
