In defence of Moyes

Comments (2)

After reading the below post's the general feeling is that Moyes and his tactic's were to blame. Now please understand i am not a Moyes supporter, but I cannot understand the critisism.

Let's analyize the match, Liverpool had the first 10 minutes, after that Everton bossed the game, all be it scrappy, ugly and without either keeper having a save to make. Our goal was out of the blue but deserved. half time. Second half we were again on top, wrongly I sat back thinking Liverpool wont score. Liverpool were piss poor today, but credit were credit's due Everton were the better side by far.

We all know because of the ref the game swung, but you have to give Moyes credit surely for still going for it. I know the argument's against this, sit back and hold out for the draw, but as an Evertonian I was happy to still see us take the game to them, it was positive from Moyes where as in the past negativity rules. Liverpool were there for the taking and today I was proud that even when down to 10 men we were still the better side.

If we would have brought Carsley on and defended and got beat Moyes would have been murdered for being negative again, when they were still there for the taking... sometimes you just can't win can ye? There is only one man to blame for that today and it was not Moysie.

Judging by the comments and the letters overall, seems to be a roughly even split between those who blame the ref for cheating, those who blame Moyes for us not beating a poor team, and those who can see the merit in both views. As the old cliché goes, football is all about opinions... Actually I think the damage done to the game of football yesterday outweighs pretty much everything else. Isn't this supposed to be something we should be enjoying?

"Actually i think the damage done to the game of football yesterday outweighs pretty much everything else" - Michael i couldn’t agree more. You have hit the nail right on the head.

I’ve never felt so sickened and disgusted after watching a game of football - if that had been Man Utd, Arsenal or Chelsea playing us yesterday i feel we would still be questioning the integrity of the referees, the FA / Premier League (the ref’s bosses for condoning / turning a blind eye to this favouritism for years, Brian Barwick is a Liverpool fan let’s not forget).

This should be a watershed, a wake up call for the game in general. I feel that the only man with enough power to change things is Platini - he was my full support - but i’ve little hope.

Top level football in England is in trouble, and it all stems from money and all that the "evil / greed / corruption" (best words i can think of) it brings.

totally agree,im not a moyes fan but he cant be blamed for yesterdays defeat,Hibbert can take the blame squarely on his shoulders,we never looked like losing once in front till he let the ball bounce on the halfway line and the referee was a disgrace, spent the whole game chatting up gerard, the "top four" have been getting preferential treatment from refs for several years now mostly from that shithouse Graham Poll, its verging on corrupt and im fukn sick of it,the RS had a ref issuing an appology publicly recently and got him suspended, these double standards within football exist to keep those at the top in their privilleged positions its disgracefull.
