Cracking the top four

Comments (22)

Yesterday was a clear example of the difference between finishing in the top 4 and finishing just outside.

I'm not trying to suggest that Everton, Spurs, Blackburn etc are as good as Man Utd, Chelsea etc because it's obvious they have a bit of extra class and more importantly strenth in depth. I am trying to suggest though, that there should be no reason why at least one of the teams just outside the top 4 shouldn't be making it difficult for these teams every year.

But the sad truth is, the real difference between the top 4 and those just outside the top 4 is they always get the key decisions. People will argue that these things balance themselves out over the course of the season ? what a load of wank.

Just outside the top four? I wish! Judging by our current form (4 defeats out of 5), mid-table mediocrity beckons. Here’s hoping that this prolonged period of poor form is just our annual period of "gashness" come early.

However, I do, in part agree with your established club decision theory- I don’t want to bleat on but imagine the same scenario as saturday but replacing Liverpool with Fulham and you’ll find it hard to imagine the same outcomes.

i do think the top 4 do get a higher % of key decisions in their favour but they do have the players who know when to ’dive’ and how to infleunce the ref, which is hardly fair play and I hate watching that type of football but its very possible our players simply arent good at the diving/cheating side of the game like Liverfool are, I mean was Lescott actually fouled, its possible, though you can also make the case Lescoot was looking for and fell backwards in which case the ref got it right

I like the attitude of a fans like you and the author of the obsession article, if you are served shite in a plate you eat it and say "it wasnt that bad give me more"

We were fucking robbed yesterday and not for the first time, we were robbed against Chelsea and arsenal last season as well, we are treated bad by the refferees and all you can come with after yesterday horror show by Clattenburg is:"Maybe Lescott dived"

Let me tell you something if that had happened to any of the Arsenal,Chelsea or Man Un he was going to Champinship and even the death would have known that injustice was made, but for part of the Everton fans its ok lets eat the shite and get over it

It sickens me of such " Evertonians"

i dont think it was a clear cut decision for the ref to give a penalty for the ’foul’ on Lescott, at the end of the day its the view of the ref, the VIEW he has when a tackle is made, be it the cheating Gerrard one or the lescott one, its the view/line of sight of the ref that determines the decision and I think the officals have a plus 60% in favour of the correct decisions they make over the season which isnt great but what can you do. in hindsight its more easier to say whether someone dived or not, or was the ball over the line or not, on the other hand it is not easy in hindsight to come to a decision, did England actually score a try or not? was Lescott fouled or not? should camers be brought into the game for such moments we saw on saturday?? NO because football is to fast, but FFS to say that we INTENTALLY get more decisions against us like it is some sort of a conspiracy is laughable we were just unlucky and yes cheated out of it by Gerrard

If As Anto says, refs getting 50% of important decisions right then god help this game.
That referee on Sat was a disgrace, I am fed up to the back teeth of these clowns making the wrong decisions and having no-one to answer to.
The FA are a bunch of dithering arseholes who just want to kep the prima donnas happy.
Gerrard is a fucking cheat , the twat should be charged by the FA but they don’t have the balls to do it. Every important decision went against us on Saturday and then the gobshite even shakes Gerrards hand when he was subbed,
And people wonder why we seem to be bitter!!!

BBC News is reporting that Saturday’s sad excuse for a ref will NOT be refereeing in the Premiership this coming weekend.

IMHO he should never be allowed to ref a match involving LFC again.

Anton ...I have decided you are on another Planet after all..have you ever managed to dive deliberately backwards when playing football.- do you think it would be worth doing yourself a serious back injury... I think not chuck

i have fallen backwards before its not that hard to do, its kinda like falling forwards except in the other direction and i have also lived to tell the tale ;) the ’foul’ on Lescott was 50/50 and with the ref on the day im surprised the fool didnt give it, having watched it numerous times on the box i am more inclined to say it was not a foul just an entanglement much like Gerrards penalty with neither party doing anything wrong except that gerrard is a better actor and got the oscar. the ref was bad gerrard was worse and until players are made an example of then we will see more of the same

There are enough decisions for me to suggest that. Last year official admitted that we were denied 8?!? penalties, we received at least 3 goals from offsides, had goal disallowed against Chelsea and though at least robbed from 5-6 points.

Yesterday was blatant, really blatant and I cant stand this shite anymore, not the decisions dont even themselves in long run, they tend to get worse season after season

As I am still upset, angry and I cant express myself very good in English as i am not native, how would you comment the FACT that from last 6 RS wins, there sere at least one sending off of Everton player in 4 of them.

well Stefan I would be confident in saying that a lot of teams can say the same thing as you posted above and the fact that some clubs may have more decisions go against them rather than for them and seem to get more bad decisions than other teams is just plain paranoia. ok, yes there might be some facts or stats to prove it, but these decisions are controversial and are never as plain as black and white and so to think that our club is being targeted while another club is getting away with it is completly pish! its the luck of the draw with what ref you get on the day we got a bogus on on saturday and it WONT be the last time but I am very proud to support a club who has a manager and players who can take it on the chin and hopefully make them stronger for the next game

"to think that our club is being targeted while another club is getting away with it is completly pish"

its not pish mate is reality, if you have interest do a bit of research if not in 2-3 weeks time, when i am a bit free I will point to you all the controvercial decisions in favour of RS and how many teams have suffered from them.

ANTO DORAN.
Tell me why did carragher fall over as well if he was’nt pulling him?,also he got the KUNG FU kick wrong, and the YELLOW/RED card, and if you were at the WIGAN game think how many times ARTETA got fouled. SAME REF.
Frank Duffy

So the REF is having a ’Rest’ this week end. Some punishment he should never referee another game at Goddison Park or when the other lot are playing as he will always favour them.

The red card tha Hibbet received should be down graded to a yellow, Kuyt should be given a Red card, Gerrad should be charged with improper behaviour and we should be awarded a ’Penalty Goal’ as they do in Rugby.

All the above will of course not happen as the FA and Premier League are spineless. I agree with one the other guys we should tell those in charge to stick their league and break away and form our own.

Where will the so called ’Big Four’ go - a Europen League - expensive and will become boring.

Its a long time since I have come out of Goodison so angry not just because of the applaying decisons but we had the beating of a Liverpool team, which will never win the Premiership, and the reds supports are kidding themselves if they think this team can.

But Moyes ’s tactics still baffel me. When Babbel came on you coudl see Lescott was starting to suffer - this was time to bring on Baines ( who should have started from the start) to left back to negate the danger coming from Babbel.

What do the Everton bench do during the game as it was clear that Babbel was causing all sorts of trouble and thatw as the area where the second penalty came from.

Still be there with the wife - sons comming across from Hull and Leeds on THursday.COYB

The Lescott thing was just the final straw that broke the camels back. First I was incensed by Gerrard influencing the ref, then Kuyt’s lunge. For Kuyt to have the audacity at the end to come out and say it was never meant to be a bad challenge - bullshit. Also - am I right in thinking Kuyst got MotM? who voted for that? Afdter that fucking challenge. Kuyt should be banned.

Anto Doran did you actually see the game Now answer this If a ref is having a bad day he gets things wrong for BOTH teams now please tell me where any wrong decisions went our way.also IF Lescott dived how did Cara end up beneath him maybe he wanted to break his fall .and I suppose Neville induced that tackle from Kuyt and what about the handball leading up to the second pen,and to sum it up how often have you seen a player subbed go and shake the refs hand ,Now I dont believe the ref had a bad game he was biased he got pally with the shite in Asia and it clouded his judgement or he is simply corrupt and why has nothing been done about that Spanish bastard accusing Lescott of diving is that not bringing the game into disrepute.

im not defending the ref at all he was the twelfth RS player on the field on saturday, the only deceisions he got right were decisions that were against Everton, Nevilles handball, and I feel that Lescotts fall late in the game was not enough to warrant a penalty, of course i would have loved it if he had given it but it was 50/50 and wasnt given, shame the ref didnt show the same nerves of steel with gerrards penaly and kuyt challange

Anto Doran thats not right mate, the Carragher challenge on Lescott was a foul end of story. I know it, Carragher knows it, Benitez knows it, Lescott knows it - bloody hell even Alan Hansen called it assault! If that was anywhere else on the pitch a free kick would have been given. All a penalty is, is a direct free kick in the box remember.

I honestly dont think it was a ’clear cut’ penalty, another ref might have given, I think is was 50/50 and there’s no TV view that clearly shows Carragher making any real contact that would cause Lescott to fal/pulledl backwards. Thats just my view TBH!
