Clattenburg

Comments (10)

Did anyone else pick up on Graham Poll's comments on 5Live tonight (22/10/07), that Mark Clattenburg has not been dropped or punished for his performance on Saturday. He is actually inelgible to officiate at the weekend because he is refereeing in the Uefa Cup and is also going on a pre-booked family holiday to Spain. Makes you distrust the FA even further when they publish misleading press releases implying that a referee has been punished when in fact he has not.

Oh yeah, and where is Keith Hackett...

Does this UEFA Cup match he is refereeing involve a Spanish team and is he getting a lift to the resort after the game? For the authorities to do nothing after his performance on Saturday is to invite evil to flourish and why don’t referees have to give press conferences after games? If it is embarrassing for a manager who may be about to get the sack then it can’t be any worse for a professional referee.

What’s the bet that we will get quite a few borderline decisions going our away on Sunday against Derby, to make up for Mr Clattenberg’s poor performance.

I heard a statement from Hackett on Five Live this morning confirming the Poll version as the correct one.Anyone who has ever seen/heard a Hackett interview will know he is as weak as piss and in thrawl to the Big Four. His predeccor was removed for being to confrontational to the Big Boys.that says it all for me!

I didn’t know about the holiday in Spain, but Mark Clattenburg has known for a few days that he’ll be refereeing in Moscow on Thursday night. He won’t be back in England until about 9pm on Friday, so has never been scheduled to referee a Premiership game this weekend.

The FA didn’t publish a press release - it’s just that some newspapers said he’s being punished, and others just said he doesn’t have a game this weekend. Those in the latter category obviously know the truth as to why he has no game, but want us to draw our own sensationalist conclusions. Unfortunately it usually works.

It amazes me how people distrust referees, yet take everything the media says as the truth!

SIGN THE PETITION ... its probably a waste of time; but we need to show the FA/PL that we will not stand for this!

people should remember in 1997 when fowler jumped clear of david seaman at highbury - (jumped clear, that means there was no contact) and gerald ashby, who incidentally was in charge of the 95 cup final, awarded the shite a spot kick. Subsequently fowler remonstrated and actually pleaded with ashby not to give it and in the event tried to miss the resulting kick deliberately, only to see it tamely parried, but mcateer put in the rebound. (shite win 2-1, cue talk of a double, but surprisingly they end with nothing)

Surely ten years on, had fowler been playing with the same scenario but with clattenburk or whoever, for that matter, would he have made have gone out of way to say not to give it, in front of the gwladys even. And would he had, as a sporting gesture tried to have missed.

I think not.

I honestly thought that mark Clatenberg was the best ref in the league by a mile .when he first came into the prem, but last season i saw a change in him, only he knows why ,but the pressure of the so called big three, and liverpools verbal and ex players tv chat giving them extra preferenital treatment, and with big euro games up for grabs ,he has gone the way of many other refs, i also worry about cheating of refs and players these days ,with so much money on betting going on [like many other sports] that its getting to the stage were you worry is it worh bothering with anymore.
