Everton to join the “Global War”?

Comments (17)

What does Nike's acquisition mean for the club? Will we still have kits manufactured by Umbro or will Nike take over?

If Nike do take over we will be part of the 'Global War' between Adidas and Nike as they seem to sponsor a team with most major derby games.

Arsenal (Nike) vs. Chelsea (Adidas)
Barcelona or Atletico Madrid (Nike) vs. Real Madrid (Adidas)
Boca Jrs. (Nike) vs. River Plate (Adidas)
Borussia D. (Nike) vs. Bayern Munich (Adidas)
Brazil (Nike) vs. Argentina (Adidas)
Flamengo (Nike) vs. Fluminense (Adidas)
Inter Milan (Nike) vs AC Milan (Adidas)
Porto Fc (Nike) vs. Benfica (Adidas)
Portugal (Nike) vs. Spain (Adidas)
PSG (Nike) vs. Olympique M. (Adidas)
PSV (Nike) vs. Ajax (Adidas)

Food for thought or will we still be running out to our Football League style kit next season?

If this freefall continues we’ll be running out in an actual Football league kit next year!

Personally, I shall continue to buy my undies in Kirkby market. With the labels conveniently cut out.

None of this really affects us, does it?

Nike own Umbro who cares they probably bought it out of their petty cash box, Umbro is not globally a big brand

Now there’s a thought. We should get our kit at Kirkby market next season with the labels cut out. That will suit our new downsized, suburban formerly of Liverpool image in our new home, Chang Park, Knowsley, Lancashire. Saturday’s debacle was aggravating enough, but the crowing of the kopites at our impedning deparure from the city made it more so. Thanks, fellow blues!

Peter

Get your facts right - Knowsley is not part of Lancashire so if your going to contribute get it right

The Umbro brand will continue. Our kits since we returned to them in 2004, have been good. Far better than the Puma ones, especially that first one that made the likes of Gaza and Ginola look ’Extra Fat’!

Only gripe is that we have had one new one every season, but that’s been going on for the last 9 years - 8 Home kits in that time! That’s down to bungling Bill, not Umbro though.

Charlie, you are absolutely 100% right and I could not be more hopelessly wrong. But I thought if people are trying to convince me Knowsley is really Liverpool and these boundaries are imaginary and arbitrary and meaningless, as Wyness and the Tear Down Goodison gang have been saying, I thought I’d put Kirkby wherever I liked. One place it surely isn’t ....is Liverpool as 20,000 kopites reminded me on Saturday.

Sorry Peter, I thought this article was about Nike and Umbro - I’ve clearly missed something here.

But whilst on the subject how many people in Lancashire actually call themselves scousers or say they are from Liverpool. Trying to suggest Kirkby is like some Lancashire town is crap and you know it. Kirkby, Bootle and Huyton as every much as part of Liverpool as anywhere, we call ourselves scourses and are proud of it.

20,000 Liverpudlians, shit I thoughth it was closer to 2,000 in Goodison!

Charlie
I think Peter meant it felt like 20,000 on Saturday night, it did to me too. I agree with him, we seem hell bent on becoming a kirkby Market of a club, soon we’ll be geographically well placed to just nip out and by our new kit, be it Umbro, Nike or one more suitable, with the lables cut off

Dave

I’m too tired to get into the stadium debate tonight, I actually looked at this article because it was a bit light hearted and wanted to get away from the intense Derby debate!

Anyway good night lads, I’m sure we will have many more opportunities to discuss the stadium!

The acquisition of Umbro by Nike was aimed at strengthening their football brand, Reebok were taken over by Adidas in similar fashion last season and have remained as the sponsors / kit manufacturers of the mighty Bolton. An even scarier fact that I found when perusing the Umbro official site is that Everton actually signed a 10 year deal with them back in 2004, further evidence of Wyness policy of hawking off any future commercial successes on the back of the need for cash now.

Peter - relax - because we signed a 10 year deal does not mean we do any more dealings, I’m sure we have t & c’s or even a early settlement figures in place - Y are peeps worried over something trivial like this?

Lets all be positive and back the team....can’t waity for Gravesson, Cahill and Vaughny to be back - will make a massive diff to us

How does it affect you where we play Peter Fearon - don’t you live with the kaola bears?

Nike, Addidas, Umbro - can’t see what is matters. All kits are probably made in the same philippine sweat shop by 11 year old girls. As long as Everton are exploting peoples lives, I’m happy.
