Moyes never mentioned

Comments (21)

Does it strike anyone else how strange it is that the name of David Moyes is never seriously mentioned when it comes to discussing possible targets for the really big jobs?

OK, so a few thought on this site thought (hoped) he might be in for the Rangers job but apart from that I can never recall mention of any big club or national team targeting him for their job. Is this because they see his bond with Blue Bill as truly one `for life` and thereby unbreakable or that too many of them subscribe to the Tony Marsh view that he is a well organised but very limited manager?

In recent weeks we`ve seen much speculation over `big city jobs` at Chelsea and Spurs (OK, so few Evertonians see the latter as superior to our club but one look at their balance sheet will show they are in a different league) and whilst relative newcomers to the job such as Mark Hughes get a mention, Moyes never seems to figure . Just think of some of the names you have seen put forward to succeeed Sir Alex when the time comes or, for that matter, that walking dead man, Steve McClaren! Moyes is never even an outsider.

So is it that `bond` that puts him beyond the speculation or the simple fact that the rest of football recognise `Our Davey` as `the man for a crisis` but destined forever to manage average teams playing dour, unimaginative football?

John I am not a fan of Moyes but to be fair no British manager gets a lot of mention it is now the thing to bring in a replacement from Europe .

I think everyone accepts he is going nowhere. But his style of football probably doesnt endear him to too many anyway!

I don’t think Rangers or Spurs or anybody else for that matter are interested in hoofball. That’s why he doesn’t get mentioned.

Ok John which big jobs are at this moment vacant? And was David Moyes not voted manager of the year twice by the managers (who know a little more about football than you do or me). Ok be anti Moyes but please come up something better than that one and just out of interest who do you think will take over if Moyes leaves or sacked come on then you anti Moyes boys seem to have every answer so surely you must have this answer. Are you not the same fans who kicked off when Moyes never signed that fantastic sriker Nugent. If I had the time I could go through these archive posts and find all these players who people screamed about getting players like scott parker who has done fuck all, the list is endless. All of a sudden Mark Hughes is the so called experts choice the thing is he managers some shitty little club. You see there is no fucking magic wand and no answers, just so called experts who shout and scream but dont have a single answer

This site is the most anti-moyes I’ve ever seen it at the moment. So what is the overall point of this article. He’s a shit manager because no-one else wants him? We need to get rid of him because no else wants him? His job is so safe because of his relationship with Bill, and no one else wants him? Get a grip, an average manager doesn’t take an average team into the top four.

Anyway, whats our alternative?? Come on, what is it? If anyone can actually name a manager worth having that would consider Everton, I want to hear his name?? Because that guy (or girl) doesn’t exist!!

Perhaps an unknown foreign manager!! Iain Dowie?? Dave Jones?? Peter Reid? Maybe Howard again?? yeh right

What"s so wrong with such speculation? Its what we talk about in the pubs and clubs every night. My view is that Moyes would be a shoo-in for jobs like Bolton,Blackburn,Middlesbrough etc but without any trophies in the bank or meaningful European experience,of no interest to the top johnnies. He may have been voted top manager but he has no real claim to be one until he’s won something-hopefully for Everton!

Patty and Peter,

I do get behind the manager as much as I can but that does not prevent me from identifying his weaknesses. As a player he was a central defender and while there is nothing wrong with that he does not seem able to see the game from anything but that position. He does not seem to be able to appreciate what the midfield is all about and is content to pack it with defensive utility players. Jason Koumas was the man of the match in Wigans game against the redshite the other week, just the kind of player we need...not a world beater, just steadily creative and can pass a ball. The lad wanted to come to Everton. Who did Moyes buy...Jagielka!? One hell of a mistake. This is what annoys me about Moyes. He cannot seem to see the obvious. He says he wants to move us to the next level...but we still play hoofball! He expects strikers to get 15 or 20 goals a season when outside of set pieces Everton, because of the way he has us playing, make very very few chances. Moyes strikes me as a stubborn man who obviously believes he knows the right way. But even when ALL the evidence is telling him it is the wrong way he will not change. While in many ways I agree he has been our saviour (we don’t fight relegation every year anymore) this stubborn streak could be our downfall. We are falling (10 places!) alredy.

What about martin Joll spent 50 million quid on that massive bigger than us club and he is that fucking good he is going to get sacked get a grip. Mark Hughes plays a bit of decent football and that means he is the next Alex Ferguson, show me a club who chop and change their mangers and are successful you cant because there is no fucking club out there. I sat next to one of these anti Moyes, anti fucking everything for a season and you know what on the last day of season I shoved a fucking pie in his face for being a fucking bore who knew fuck all about football, he only went the match because his tart brought him a season ticket to get rid of him.

So what trophy do you think we are going to win, seeing the league is sown up and as been for 15 years, FA. CUP well seeing we was the last team to win it out of the so called big four, Micky mouse cup no one gives a fuck about it except Everton fans. Champions League maybe you see it is easy to be successful on your PS2 games but in reality its not that easy look at the silverware tables over the past 12 years and you wont see many other teams in it besides Manure, Arse, RS and Chelsea.

Maybe the outside world view Everton and David Moyes slightly differently to the pessimists on here.

I know a lot of fans from different Clubs and I don’t know one of them who has a bad word to say about him. They may not view him like Wenger or Mourinho, biut they all acknowledge he has turned us from a near laughing stock to a respected team with a credible image again. Obviously, the next challenge is to build on that and we are allk waiting to see what happens there.

However, he’s not mentioned because to the outside world Everton FC want MNoyes and he wants us so there is not much chance of him wanting another job. In my view this says a lot of fgood things about how we are now viewed and we should be building on this instead of getting twitchy all the time.

If you noticed managers like Benitez aren’t linked with any jobs either.

None of the ’big’ club managers are linked elsewhere because none of them would want to leave. This is some respect for Everton as it means unless its a top job why would Davey want to leave.

I can’t believe the amount of stick he gets particularly on here. As soon as we fail to win for a couple of games, the old ’he’s taken us as far as he can’ line gets trotted out again.

Just out of interest - How do you know that? It seems to me that we are constantly progressing and the style of football is gradually changing. We just need to be patient to see it through to its eventual conclusion

COACHING BADGES! For gods sake we all know just how brilliant a Manager is who waves his COACHING Badges about. England is full of the officious little swines. English football for years was about coaching the flair out of players and in many areas still is.

I think Moyes has taken us as far as he can but can still recognise some good things. The last home game of last season was against Portsmouth if I remember correctly. We were poor in the first half and played like bloody Brazil in the second because we had to win! I just wish he would approach most games like that because this squad can be really good.

As for the ’Big Four’ that is only the case as long as they are winning. They are all there to be shot down. You don’t think Brian Clough did so well because he bowed and scraped to bigger clubs do you? Moyes should change his attitude from humble to WE ARE AND WILL BE THE BEST. Half of it is in the mind.

i cant remember the last time i heard alex ferguson linked with any job let alone a top one. i am sure moyes would have been in consideration for jobs like the man city one or the newcastle one had it been viewed that there was a chance he would go. moyes job with everton is safe and thus noone comes in for him.

Moyes has done a great job at everton and i am fed up with him getting knocked all the time. sure sometimes it is frustrating being an everton fan at times, wanting us to recapture the glories of the past. could any other manager have brought better success than moyes has.

i still remember ten years of being a relegation candidate every season, being mentioned in the same breath as coventry and southampton. At the start of each season when newspaper reporters used to predict who they thought would challenge and who would be relegated. everton were frequently touted as being a team many reporters predicted would go down. Now at the beginning of each season when predictions are made everton are always predicted to be in the top ten.

This is progress and although we want our team to achieve more - which supporter doesnt? whether we like it or not is a long term thing. if we had just been poor for a couple of seasons then maybe it would have been possible to bridge the gap by now. but instead ten seasons of shite have left us so far behind. stopping being perrennial relegation candidates was the easy part for a manager as good as moyes. that didnt take much work. but clubs like manure, arsenal. liverpool have had so long to move away from us it is an almighty effort to even be near them

even clubs like newcastle during those ten years have had enough success to mean that although we get to spend 20 million pounds in pre season a couple of times, it is not a guarantee we can pull away from them. we need to be able to spend 20 million a year for five years running to do that, to be that team that is immediately knocking on the door behind the big 4. chelsea spent hundreds of millions to get in there. man city have probably spent more this season than we have in three years to be where they are and god knows yet whether they can maintain it past this season.

we wont qualify for europe this season, not because moyes is a crap manager but because the club cannot cope with the extra matches europe has brought us yet, and also there’s the pyschology of gearing yourself for playing a euro fixture in the week and then re-adapting to a premier league match at the weekend.

i am sure if moyes had 50 million to spend a year since he joined we would have won the title by now

i firmly believe the man has performed miracles so far to get us where we are and will continue to do so. but he is not the only manager in the league and as much as he does do to bridge the gap, other managers are trying to do as much to progress their teams and maintain the gap as wide as it has been. the result is that the gap has been reduced so moyes has ultimately done a good job... come on guys keep the faith

Managers are just like players when it comes to ’tabloid speculation’... You always see the same players and managers linked with top jobs when they come along. The guys that keep their head down and word hard for their club never get the headlines as they are committed to their club..
