Riquelme

Comments (13)

I've heard all the rumours, i.e., the transfer broke down at the last minute, etc. I reckon if we can get Riquelme, he is just the player to knit the team together. The last piece of the jigsaw. WOW. Not only me and forty odd thousand would elated, also Yakubu and Johnson would have their workload cut down by half. Please bring him on.

P.S. The last attacking center midfielder, who could score goals was Don Hutchison. Was it that long ago??

We’re not at this shite again are we?? Paul Riquelme will never come here? And he’s only upset the team spirit! I heard he used to bully SORIN about his long hair?

We may have a chance of getting Paul Riquelme as he’s a boot studder at Boca Juniors. Who is Paul Riquelme PL PL?? Think you mean Juan Pablo Riquelme. Worth the crack if ever became available.

Tim Cahill anyone ?
Juan Roman Riquleme is top drawer and good players are always welcome - worry about him upsetting the apple cart if he arrives. You wouldn’t have a problem selling him.

Good call Gareth on Tim Cahill. The difference he’s made in two games is plain to see. Worth risking the apple cart for the calabre of a Riquelme though. If Moyes is that good a manager, simple man management skills shouldn’t be a problem.

What a load of shite , the last attacking centre midfielder was Hutchinson, what about Cahill, what about Arteta when he runs centre as often as he runs right and left.
Osman scored against Larissa from centre while Arteta ran left and Pienaar supplied a sublime ball from centre midfield.
Get your midfield sorted my friend very few players play right, left or anything these days other full midfield, often changing as the game allows. Watch the way class players like Pienaar and Arteta will switch their play
arriving anywhere but where they are expected

Why a full 2 months before the January transfer window and just when our side are starting to gel and play well are we discussing players that we need to buy?

With Cahill and Grav back, Pienaar improving on a positive start, Osman playing well in a more central role, Carsley having a super game against Larissa and the immensely talented Arteta becoming more consistent our Midfield is starting to look very good indeed. Lets enjoy watching the current squad settle and improve, and leave the transfer talk until January.

Ernie, I hope the management don’t think like that, because its just that kind of thinking that has left us short for the first 10 games. Sure we have players coming back but they could quite easily get injured again and I couldnt bear to see Neville and Jagielka in central midfield again.
In my opinion the only two class midfielders we have are Cahill and Arteta. Osman, Pienarr and Gravesen are all good players but are not world class. If we are going to progress then we need to bring in someone of that class into midfield. Not an easy thing to do, however if the management take the right approach I am sure someone can be identified and signed come January.

Paul, I also hope that management aren’t short sighted when it comes to transfers. I was talking about the fans rather than the management, a completely different group of stakeholders.

I found it a little strange that the signing of a new midfielder was being discussed when our midfield is performing the best it has all season, and has played very well over the last two games.

Of course our management always need to appraise the squad and must continually scout potential and discuss new signings, on that subject I think the squad needs a CB as much as a midfielder.

I agree that Riquelme would be something of a risk as he has a reputation for lacking in team spirit. But then again, this may be just bullshit. I’d love to have him.
From what I’ve heard on various sites and sky sports, I think that if we have money to spend in january, DM may well attempt to bring in Steve Apiah. He’s def in the Moyes-mould; hard working, solid Gravesen-esque midfielder who literally beats the shit outta the opposition. Very much an Everton player. But if wishes were horses and all that, I’d love for DM to make an improved offer to Porto for Lucho Gonzalez

Erm Cahill?? creative midfielder? no. I mean Someone who will bring out the best from our forwards. Its a long time since i,ve seen defence splitting passes, its either the big boot, or boot it to the corner flag for AJ to run for. Riquelme would certainly bring the best out of our forwards.

Sorry Colin, but you said "last attacking midfielder" not creative. That’s just being picky anyway, no offence to any fans of the ex blue but I’d rather have Timmy that Hutch.

Riquelme is some talent but I don’t see him at Everton. Better to go after somebody a little younger if we’re going to pay big bucks, but I’d take him on loan. he he
