Winning team

You can be sure that with our now bursting squad that Moyes will rotate for the Carling Cup game at Luton. No doubt Hibbert and Neville will come back in and then Moyes will publicly praise the "tough tackling duo" thus enabling him to change a winning team against Birmingham on Saturday and reinstate them.

The teamwork and play in our last 2 games (Larissa and Derby) has been much improved through midfield and I would hate us to lose that if either of these two play regularly. Neville does a job holding in midfield or at right back but Hibbert is just useless and that is exactly the word I would use. The basic defending he provides is just that, basic and Jags does all that and 500% more.

Please David can we keep young Tony for those special reserve occasions from now on?

ps: Any word on Baines's injury?

Aren't Hibbert and Neville suspended for three matches each for receiving straight red cards?

Doesn’t it have to be violent conduct to get a three match ban?

And yeah, is there any news at all on how serious Baines’ injury is. I hope he’s OK because in my opinion the guy looks top class, if only we had a right back as good as him instead of Hibbert whos getting worse with each passing week.

Hibbert played against Larrissa and did nothing wrong. If he had made Lescotts error for thier goal the lynch mob would be out in force.

Get off the lads back will you? He is a decent enough defenderwith limited distribution but he is 100% blue and he never hides despite being the current whipping boy.

Yes he makes mistakes (most players do)but he’s also saved us plenty of times with timely interceptions and last ditch tackles. A lot of players games are built on confidence and it can’t help when every little error is constantly criticised by the angry mob. We should be building players up not knocking them down.

Barry, I’m well aware that Hibbert tries his best every game and is as loyal an evertonian as can be, but sadly i feel that isn’t good enough any more. It’s not his loyalty or effort that i’m questioning, the lad is an excellent tackler but nearly every other aspect of his game is below the standard which the current squad is at.

The difference between Hibbert making a mistake and Lescott at the moment is Lescott’s howler against Larissa (which admittedly was awful and cost us a goal) was the only incident that tainted a fantastic performance both defensively and going forward. The guy has a goalscoring record this season that any striker would be proud of as well as putting in consistantly excellent performances at the back.

Hibbert on the other hand hasn’t put in a shift for a while which you could say is notably above par, whilst still giving the ball away, drifting out of position and being indecisive at crucial moments. So when he makes a terrible error which costs us a goal he is naturally going to get singled out more than someone of the quality of Lescott or Baines.

To say that Hibbert is up to the standard of either Lescott or Baines is absolute slander. The team cannot afford to carry him as he is a weak link in the back four and he needs replacing, if not by a new signing, certainly by Jagielka or at a push Neville who offers much more from right back than in midfield.

Dear Mr Lloyd,

Like it says on our very own Bad Boys page:

A player red-carded for denying a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by physical means or by handling the ball will be automatically suspended for one match.

So that?s just the one match for each of them, methinks.

Ooops! And to think I visited three other football sites trying to find out the answer. I’ll go and stand in the corner...

Nick I wasn’t trying to make a case for Hibbert being my first choice right back and on current form certainly not comparing his talents to other defenders in the squad.

My point is a simple one. If the lad is picked to play by the manager it is counter productive to barrack and bait his every move. I know he is capable of playing better than his form of late suggests but he is unlikely to ever regain his better form if he is the subject of constant abuse from the terraces.

I don’t understand the need for people to always have a whipping boy. I can see Hibberts/Mcfaddens/Osmans/Nevilles weaknesses but I can also recognise and appreciate their strengths. It personally wouldn’t bother me if Moyes decides to pick Jags/Neville at right back for the rest of the season but if he picks Hibbert he deserves our support.

Isnt the Carling Cup all about giving squad players a chance my team for Luton would be and dont laugh
Wessels
Jagielka Stubbs Yobo Valente

Osman Da Silva Carsley Pienaar

Anichebe Mc Fadden
subs Ruddy, Neville, Vidarsson, Lescott, Yakubu

I feel this team should be good enough to handle Luton at the same time as we give some of the younger players + fringe players a go:

Wessels
Jagielka - Yobo (cpt) - Stubbs - Valente
Van der Meyde - DaSilva - Pienaar
Vidarsson

McFadden - Jutkiewicz

Subs: Ruddy - Boyle - Lescott - Osman - Anichebe

If Vaughan is deemed fit enough then he should be sub instead of Anichebe.

When i named my team I totally forgot about the forgotten man VDM.

However after looking at my team I decided I would still leave him out haha.
I I think Pienaar needs games as he is getting better and better so give him another

Barry, I’m not sure you have a leg to stand on mate. As a season ticket holder, and someone who attends 90% of away games, I can tell you that Hibbert, is undeniably, undoubtedly 100% SHITE.

Yes he tries, but I don’t know about anyone else, I thought Jags looked superb at right back on sunday, all be it against woeful opposition. He reminded me of a Lee Dixon type player. Definately a chance to make the position his own.

I personally would put Neville in for Carsley, just to make sure Carsley if fit and healthy for the weekend. Leave jags at RB - practice for the rest of the season maybe, as PN understudy? However, I feel we will see the return of PN and TH - maybe out of loyalty?
I so hope not though - let’s keep the improvement going by using the same system and build confidence for the next by an attack-minded winning display. COYB!!

How about a massive gamble v Luton

Wessels
Jagielka Yobo Stubbs Valente

Kissock Vidarsson Da Silva VDM

Mc Fadden Anichebe
Subs: Ruddy, Agard, Boyle, Neville, Justiwicz

Personally I’d opt for:

Wessels
Jagielka Yobo Stubbs Valente
VDM Da Silva Graveson Pienaar
McFadden Anichebe

Graveson since he’s lacking match fitness. Also gives Da Silva a chance to impress (who should be match fit now).

If we’re winning comfortably I’d want to bring Vaughan on for 20 minutes or so for Pienaar and drop McFadden to left wing.

They did beat Nottingham Forest on saturday so they cant be pushovers. Apparently a 1-0 win for the home side is at 14/1 with paddy power, not that i would dare bet for the opposition but it is tempting.

Tickets are still available so i understand. Try calling 0870 017 0656

May be just for home supporters only, but then again...

Sod off the lot of yer! We haven’t won anything for 12 years and we’ve never won this one. Let’s give ourselves a chance and put a decent team out! Bugger the experiments for the time being!

Agree with Dave- experiments are for 3rd round FA cup ties with Hitchin Town. With the Prem looking tighter and tighter, we need to book a place in Europe from where ever we can.

I’d start the yak and jimmy mac up front. They did well in the last round to put wednesday to the sword. Vic on the bench as his best contributions seem to be when we bring him on after an hour or so. Apart from resting cars for the weekend, I wouldnt change anything else. We’ve had 2 much improved performances and would like to see a bit of continuity. After all, the rotation policy isnt exactly working for the RS at the moment.
As for playing youngsters, get real. We should be looking to win this competition, if only to break our duck in the league cup. Unfortunately although we have better back-up than we’ve had for a long time, not sure the likes of vdm, da silva, kissock, vidarsson etc. can be expected to come in and do a job straight away
