“ Pay as you play” Tommy

Comments (4)

The mystery of David Moyes's reluctance to use Tommy G even when he's fit and available can, I think, be explained by the nature of the deal that saw him return to Goodison from Celtic Park.

It's no secret in these parts that Gordon Strachan was convinced early last season that the Dane's legs "had gone". In all, he made only about a dozen starts throughout the campaign and although he was on a three year contract, Strachan was keen to get rid.

Now Moyes is as canny as the Celtic chief, and when the Fernandes deal fell through at the very last minute, he put a deal to "Wee Gordy" that If Gravesen returned to Goodison on loan, he would only pay his wages for the weeks he appeared in the first team. A continuation of the injury difficulties which restricted his appearances up here meant that Everton had nothing to pay early season but now I suspect it is Scottish prudence that sees Gravesen so sparingly used.

Unless he is given more playing time, you can expect him to return North by Christmas!

Is Moyes reluctant to use him ?

I thought he’d played a part in almost every game that he’s been fit and available for.

Your theory doesn’t really hold water, mate. Why get a player in if you’re not intending to use him ?

It’s worse than the bloody X-files on here, sometimes.

Here’s a crazy thought......Graversen hasn’t been played because, wait for it, he was injured!

Honestly, what rubbish.

And Moyes is telling Yakubu not to score too often because he doesn’t want to pay all those goal bonuses.

In fact, Moyes convinced Clattenburg to referee the way he did because Moyes didn’t want to pay the win-bonus to the squad.

All this from a very reliable source!
